It would have been nice to know what all the models were made of as opposed to just mentioning the two. I was hoping to see a larger variety on this test like a high-end piccolo such as Hammig or Burkart along with Gemeinhardt & Jupiter just to add variety in brands and pricing. I play a Hammig Mezzo (composite) w/modified thin wave headjoint for outdoors & for indoors, I use a Briolette wooden piccolo which actually plays better than my Hammig, in my opinion.

I'm the only flute in my highschool band-- I was going to try piccolo so people could hear me, especially when marching, but the music department couldn't fix the one we were lent because it was going to cost $350 to fix... which is half of our school's budget. Aw, wish I saw this video before our marching season was over. I had a piccolo solo and our piccolos at school wasn’t the best, so I was going to buy one. Never found one that had an overall opinion on it.
I'm a bassoonist, so I'm not an expert in flutes 😁. But, the differences I could discern came down to how clear the note was and the ease of getting the pitch correct. The last run of the excerpt seemed like some of instruments dragged a bit. Meaning, in the best way I can think to describe it, that it sounded as if it took more literal effort from the artist. I hope that makes a modicum of sense. Love your channel!
Could you please suggest a bassoonist recording that expresses the rich tonality while complementing a bass clarinet or another bassoon as in a duet ? I find the harmonic possibilities intriguing with alto flute in the mix as well.
Prices have unfortunately changed since the past year but not much about 150$ above the listed price in the video. Here in Canada it goes for $999 which is roughly $750 US. Sorry to hear you could not find one for your price.
truly after reflecting it comes down to even more subtle things in the playing of the instrument. if I play each excerpt identical on each piccolo I really feel it would be very difficult to know which is which. @@flutechannel well, dark enough that I couldnt have walked around with it. It leaves only a faint mark days later. Have noticed it's now slightly matte on the picc where I put my chin. It's the yamaha ypc62. I was playing for about half an hour though.
I’m a bassoonist, but i think the same principles apply. In my opinion the biggest differences are to the player, not the listener. If it feels right to me then the listener will have a good experience.
I was a difficult kid in middle school. My choice was flute or saxophone. I wanted to play the piccolo but it wasn't a choice so I went with the saxophone.
I have a YPC 62. Love the high register on it but during a concert one of the pads fell out and my band director tried to fix it himself. Hasn’t been the same in the staff every sense. The E flat sucks😭 I took it to cadence music to get repaired and it still didn’t do anything

Do you know if this piccolo is available in from any dealers in North America? Thanks again! PS...Your able-bodied assistant does a great job too!
I play the flute and would like to know how to play really fast, do you have a tutorial on this? If not can you please make one🎼🎶🎵
I would really try using a metronome with all your practice and get comfortable at slow speeds first with what ever you learn. Then crank up the metronome a few steps at a time. That and practicing sight reading daily if you can with little etudes, etc.
The Flute Channel, ok thanks I will try that
Just bought a grenadilla picc. Is it normal to leave a dark black mark on your chin after the first practise session? I assume it's the polish.
is it a faint mark or really dark?
@@flutechannel well, dark enough that I couldnt have walked around with it. It leaves only a faint mark days later. Have noticed it's now slightly matte on the picc where I put my chin. It's the yamaha ypc62. I was playing for about half an hour though.
why didnt you try a Roy Seaman Storm or the wooden one like the LTD?
I like the sonaré
It's nice right?
How about Yamaha YPC-91?
It's unfortunate that you didn't look at any all-metal piccolos.
We wish we did, couldn't find any.
Metal are not preferred in the orchestra but metal are mostly used on the field for marching band.
Metals aren't as advocated for unless you are playing in an open and busy environment which orchestra dont play in.
@@flutechannel Gemeinhardt makes them.
how do you play the high notes quiet, i cant, ive tried many times, but i cant, any tips?
I made a video about playing high notes softly right here: ua-cam.com/video/p8EvnGwWK54/v-deo.html
Enjoy!
I really need one...but don't have money to buy...
At what music store are you?and where is it?
its mentioned in the intro but it is Twigg Musique in Montreal
I know it's the same composer as William Tell Overture buttttt ?
Rossini! You were close! thanks for watching!
I’m a bassoonist, but i think the same principles apply. In my opinion the biggest differences are to the player, not the listener. If it feels right to me then the listener will have a good experience.
I think you would be right! Thanks for watching Jeff!
The answer is yes, you can. Even on lower than professional audio quality youtube.
Gioachino Rossini is the composer?
you got it! thanks so much for watching !
The Flute Channel I enjoy watching all of your videos :)
super happy to hear! @@drago7466
I was a difficult kid in middle school. My choice was flute or saxophone. I wanted to play the piccolo but it wasn't a choice so I went with the saxophone.
The composer was Gioachino Rossini
You got it! Thanks Andrew!
I have a YPC 62. Love the high register on it but during a concert one of the pads fell out and my band director tried to fix it himself. Hasn’t been the same in the staff every sense. The E flat sucks😭 I took it to cadence music to get repaired and it still didn’t do anything
Oh no! it might be leaking elsewhere. Thats too bad. Its a great model! I hope things get better for you!
Is it weird that I love the way flute sounds but the opposite for piccolo?
Rossini I can't remember the song but I played some time ago
TFC I could probably play better than you just kidding but for real I love your videos and you helped me take my flute game to the next level. Thanks!
OMG thanks so much and it makes me so happy that your getting better by the day with my help! awww! Thanks so much for watching and happy practicing!
How did I end up here? It's 1 AM, but I've watched the whole thing tho.
the sequel to the flute video of this
Totally. But I still think it's quite unique and a bit different this time. Thanks for watching Natalie!
Composer was Rossini (I’m pretty sure at least). Not a flute or piccolo player, but I liked the video anyway
glad you liked it! thanks for watching!
Give your editor a raise
I would if I could! We're trying to make more money on these videos thru merch and patreon. If you's like to help that would be great ;)
it might have been more instructive to play the cheapest and the best back-to-back to make the differences more visible.
That said, I enjoyed the video.

I’m sooo confused I thought this was the Flute Channel not the Piccolo Channel
A mí me gusto la Yamaha 62 😍
Our school has 3 Brannen Professionals and they each suck in a different way. Whether sound, mechanism, or tuning
Wow really? That's unfortunate! Should take them in for repairs.
@@flutechannel They get sent to the shop every year and get annual maintenance too. Unfortunately they always end up broken again. The rod gets bent when people hold the body incorrectly while jamming the headjoint onto it, which causes these issues.
I think the sonare had the best sound
does anyone know what brands of piccolos are the best and are under 2000 dollars ? thanks all :)
we have a great piccolo review video: ua-cam.com/video/s3wWfUqsvQk/v-deo.html
Happy practicing!
High B on piccolo is always important. My piccolo's high B is so resistant.
Maybe Rossini?
Maybe YES! You got it Maria!
I think the Powell produced the best sound.
Rossini?
Rossini is the composer!
You got it Maureen! Thanks for watching
Rossini? He composed the Barber of Seville.
why anybody who answered the name of a piece that she played?
