Finally, Climbing Stuff is transitioning into educational content. The world needs this
Its basically a parody of an educational climbing video 😂
I don’t know man, his other stuff was pretty educational to me🧐
Nope I'm 47 and everything hurts.
While others engage in endless discussions about how much time to fingerboard, Climbing Stuff gets to the heart of the matter: Style and Etiquette!
For me as a very new barely V2 climber, I actually LOVE it when someone sends the problem I've been struggling with. I just sit back, watch, and steal the ever living shit out of their beta lol. I've also found that most people are more than happy to give you tips if you see them send your project and go up and ask them for advice afterwards. Has been a great way to meet some of the regulars at the gym as well as learn something new! (Not saying I ask them to coach me through it, just more a "do you have any tips for X move").
Yeah it's perfectly okay to go up to someone and ask for help, but if they were telling you what to do without you asking them, it could get annoying quickly
Yeah, just yesterday me and my friends got force-coached by a girl who was obviously a much better climber than any of us. She was so happy to share her knowledge, repeating boulders just to show us, and it got a little annoying.
It probably didn't help that she was like 8 years old.@@namyak-bf9od
In a crowded gym it’s impossible not to do this occasionally. When I warm up on V2-V4 I can’t take into consideration if some newbie thinks I’m a duchebag because the climb he’s struggling on is part of my warm up or a drill like 4x4. People get offended too easy by this.
@@makafuniruninobody said they were offended. Lol
"... and that's why people freesolo" xD. Dude, you made my year!
The best advice I was given once was to kindly ask if someone wants me to give them advice on a boulder. Ironically they did not ask me if I wanted that advice
Yeah offering is absolutely fine, just don’t shout your beta at people on the wall. Some people are really happy if they get some help, some say “not yet”, some want to do it all by themselves
I actually love discussing how to solve a boulder with another climber. We all have strengths and weaknesses, and getting advice on working around your weaknesses to top a boulder is great.
Most people do like that. But it's usually with friends, or after already successfully topping the boulder, or after deciding that it's too hard or they need help. Going up to somebody who is still working on a problem and trying to help them is none of those things.
I just laughed out loud and then burst out laughing at the happiness graph & free solo comment.
This is by far my favorite climbing UA-cam channel.
This is my favorite religious UA-cam channel
This is my favourite optician UA-cam channel
This is my favorite porn UA-cam channel
This is by far my favourite cultist channel
Favorite indoor climbing youtube channel. Wish he'd start some outdoor, (real), climbing content though
5:21 absolute gold and completely based take.
Bro thanks for putting me in the video at 2:31 SLAB IS LIFE
I just love this type of humor combined with climbing
The common denominator for all people I've met who progress quickly is to climb more than two times a week. When you're completely fresh it's probably just not possible because of physical limitations, but within the first 4-6 months I believe you can do this, I did 3 times a week after about four months.
People who climb 1-2 times a week don't seem to progress much at all from what I've heard, I'd love to hear other experiences.
Be ready for plateaus. When I hit 6C it felt like I hit a long plateau, before suddenly sending 7A in my first year.
I sent 7B in my second year.
Climb because you like it and because it's fun. Chasing grades will burn you out. Good friends will support you and motivate you.
The people who do it for the joy of it last the longest from different pros etc that I've talked to about this.
Edit: I have to stress the importance of listening to your body, spacing out your exercise, and resting. Did you miss your two hour session? Don’t do four hours the next time. Does your body hurt a lot? See if you can delay your schedule a bit for more rest. I chose what I do based on how I’m feeling. If everything is hurting and I still want to climb, I do some easier stuff.
Yeah 6C is definitely a big plateau for a lot of people after about a year
I've been climbing for about 4-5 months and i actually started out climbing 3-4 times a week. I had to take it down to two and then start taking periodic rest weeks because ive developed tenosynovitis in my fingers and tendonitis in my wrists from overuse/fatigue. I did progress super quick at first, but then i got injured and i haven't sent another 5.11 since even though I did three before. i hope this injury heals.....
I do top rope and pushed myself to do a 5.9 for the first time because I loved the holds! Didn't think I would get far but got a quarter of the way up, it was near the end of our session so we plan to go back and try it again after warming up! I don't plan to finish it but want to try getting halfway! I'm at a solid 5.7 and pushing myself at 5.8s.
We top rope about once a week due to the gym is an hour drive, but love it!
My first solid year of climbing I was complaining that I wasn't at the 6c level like my friend. But then I took a look back and realized I was going only two times a month and stopped complaining about it. I just needed to go more and put more effort in instead of relying on my perceived "nAtuRaL tAleNt". I've been going pretty steadily for 10 years and haven't gone above 7a.
Personally only climbed max 2 times a week and been going for 9 months! I’m a solid v4 climber. I haven’t plateaued yet, constantly trying harder stuff too. Ofc some things are harder for me, but I don’t think the amount you go is too important! Just that you’re consistent hehe
I love it when people offer help, we’re all learning it’s good to spread your knowledge
Man I love you. Have just started climbing and am really enjoying it atm. Also your content, information, delivery and personality are amazing!
😂 i like your sense if humor and your vision for the future of climbing ❤😂 thanks for the advice! I'm a beginner who just climbed a V2 and feeling pretty excited! The best time right now before i inevitably hit the misery wall 😂😂😂 thanks for all the support and the tips. It actually helped me to feel better about going to my climbing gym.
Funny and educational, thanks mate, keep up the good work!
I’m 6 months into climbing and this video was hilarious! Loved it.
the slab climbing part felt personal
absolutely amazing
Great vids man. Keep em coming.
Absolutely love the humour in these. Reminds me of casually explained!
You make me laugh so often, well done! ❤❤
This is the first climbing video I’ve ever watched on UA-cam and I’m accepting that it’s a downhill journey of UA-cam videos to come
this is peak comedy, i need more climbing humour in my live
Man i just started climbing consistently 3 weeks ago and your videos have helped me a lot to keep all the basics in check and the jokes you are cracking are fire hahahaha
merry christmas!! just got my first chalk bag as a gift, excited for the rest of my first year of climbing :D
Awesome video! I’m in my first month and am hooked.
Seriously Chicago has some ridiculously hard gyms. I was visiting from Canada and I was flashing v6 at the time… I didn’t even do a single v5. The gym I went to was called “First Ascent Avondale”. Would be interesting to see if you think they grade hard. Keep the awesome videos coming!
Yeah the first ascent gyms are awesome. Avondale has a smaller bouldering section and is very often said to have the hardest grading of all the First Ascent locations
@@Kevlanco true avondale and uptown are pretty hard. Movement seems to be set a little softer imo
Bro the Chicago hate was so uncalled for goddamn we’re doing our best the nearest crag is deadass 5 hours by car
As a gumby who decided to watch 349 minutes of UA-cam's beginner advice for climbers, this one is hands down the best 😂😂😂
This is possibly the best climbing video ever made.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE slab climbing! But mostly because I'm fat and I've injured myself too many times on the 45° wall ...
A lot of people are scared of getting hurt on the slabs but not on the overhangs. You are much more likely to scrape a knee, knock your teeth out on a hold while falling, etc.
This was fucken great. Loved it
Awesome video. Had me laughing pretty good. 👍🏻
Oh this makes me feel so much better. I normally top rope and tried bouldering recently and was thinking it was kinda weird that big guys would come over and send the easy climbs I keep falling on. I'm still dealing with my fear of heights without a rope to fall on. Every time i'd see one of these guys it was so obvious they weren't warming up and normally do harder problems.😂Now I can feel better internally barking them off my V1s.
My advice to help with your fear of heights is to force yourself to jump of every boulder you finish, this helps build a familiarity with the falling. if this is still to scary you can start by always jumping of when you climbed halfway down then slowly build up to jumping down from the top.
We do top rope a lot and visited a bouldering gym and we was both scared! Having a blast top roping though!
My favorite climbing channel
finally, we have merged youtube culture and climbing (i also love the slab hate bit as someone who kinda digs slab) great stuff
arguably the best beginners video I've seen since I began clinging to walls one year ago...
I started climbing last night and this morning I did my first v9 campus dyno abseil.
Top notch content!
After almost one year of climbing I really get the transition to free solo 😂 3:10
Oh and you are by far the funniest and creative bouldering youtuber imo, keep it up!👌
If you see someone struggling with a boulder and you wanna help, you can always ask them nicely if they need help, or if they wanna do it on their own. That way nothing wrong can come out of it. A lot of climbers were happy when I offered some ideas, and accepted the help, and there were a few that wanted to try a bit more and solve the problem on their own. Offering help is a nice thing if you ask that they need it. Just make sure not to start giving your solution without their permission.
Also, some gyms are pretty full so you cannot avoid climbing the same routes as others, because there are queues for each route.
This was brilliant 😂
Absolutely hilarious!
The honesty in this video is off the charts! lol
I love your definition of angles of the walls lol
I just started bouldering a couple weeks ago, and it's so cool learning techniques in these videos and applying them to boulders I couldn't do last time. I learned about laybacking up a corner in a Magnus video, and used it to break the beta on a boulder I had no idea how to complete, and stumbled across the intended method at the same time, which I also learned in a video but really didn't expect to use. You're meant to push off backwards into a body jam, which explains why the finish was just a flat rock that you couldn't jump to, and there was nothing else anywhere near it.
@6:50 had me geeking I climb at a gym in a 200 year old barn and this could not be more accurate. The funny thing is people there still call it soft cause it's loosened up over the years.
Hahahah "and that's why people free solo" that killed me hahah "sloper, I hardly know her" 😂
Have been to the gym only 5 times yet and it's been awesome. Good timing for this video to come out. I would love to do some outdoor bouldering too, but I think in Germany where I live it's not really legal unless on rocks specifically designated for it. I also think while there is a lot of outdoor sport climbing, there isn't much outdoor bouldering to be found sadly.
Wow, what kind of nation outlaws climbing on rocks?
@@TonyFisherPuzzles In germany nature conservationists did what they could to ban climbing in the 90s. It's mostly banned unless in very specific spots like the Frankenjura. But even there it's mostly sports climbing routes. I quite literally live a one hour walk away to a place called boulder valley (roughly translated) but I can't legally climb there as it is considered a natural monument ("Naturdenkmal" in german) and they want to preserve the rock as much as possible... who knows, might do a sneaky climb there at some point
This channel is awesome😂
Thank you
'if you watch this whole video, it probably wasnt a very good idea' liked immediately
I was taken by surprise with how funny this dude is
just went climbing last week for the first time with experienced friend. I had my running sport shoes on and the dude at the front desk laughted at me and said I wouldnt be able to climb anything with that but still did V4s at this gym (dont know if its soft gym). Near the end I tried slabs and told my friends I LOVED this kind of climbing and they were like "dude... slabs SUCKS no one likes that".. but I love it and im pretty good at it, did all the v3- slabs there was after this, its so fun I feel like its a meditation and you havbe to be ultra focused and think about nothing else, love it
6:35 hahaha same happened to me, where I always fail 6c and I go to another gym and flash a 7a+. Then i started questioning the system
Thank you again my lord and savior for this great video
It would be cool if you did a video comparing you as a dynoist vs a beginner one, and then u could give tips and shit throughout. Also fire video loved it
this is such a sick idea and even sicker when i realized who posted it lol
I always offer help to someone struggling but offer is the word
Legend!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Dude your the best 😂🤣
GOAT
Nice to watch this as my first video in 2024🎉
@climbingstuff - Have you ever tried stand up comedy? Your premises, setups, punchlines, and timing are spot on! You should definitely give it a try. It’s super fun, scary, and rewarding all at the same time, kinda like climbing. 😜
I started to climb 9 months ago. I am not sure if I like climbing that much but I love to sit under the boulder problem I already finished and annoy people with my advices. Best thing about it is that I can do it even when I am tired or injured! I did not see whole video because I got tired, but I recomend that all the people here because it feels so good!
LOL at the Cliffs picture.
A Indy game has inspired me
Plus will probably help me get in shape anyways
Now thats smth for me since I just started again after a big break
Been climbing for 4 months now. I decided to go the chad route and got really into slab climbing, Im v4-v5 overhang but v7-v8 on slab at my gym. My shoes are already fucked and I can confirm 2:32 is exactly what we look like.
You had north mass Boulder in that video… dope
Awesome video 😂😂😂
Slab alien killed me!
I’m an American so I live in America. There’s this v16 boulder thing and I asked the owner of the place how to do it and you need to go from crips with ZERO foot holds and do a 7 foot jump over a edge
So if you didn’t understand that say your in a 45 degree angle. Then do a jump above you at a 45 degree angle all the way to a 200 degree angle.
I’m still at v2.
I'm a new climber, but my gyms rating scale is lemon & spice, mild, medium, hot, spicy, so I have no idea what I'm climbing lol.
My experience with the rock-climbing community is being largely ignored till i could do 6a consistently now im in 😎
Yes they can be very anal. I find real people in gyms much better though. I think many online have never actually climbed in reality.
Weird, my invite must've been lost in the mail.
Dying at the "most replayed" part of the video 😂
Honestly, been doing the climberino and bouldering on and off for like a decade and the main reason I always preferred indoor climbing and bouldering especially is ease of access(don't have a car and don't want one and fontain bleau weirdly enohg doesn't have tramlines going from boulder to boulder) and safety(I prefer to break my body at places where I don't need to wait for a heli to do a 40 minute approach or something).
Well said. Plus nature doesn't provide nice clean dry smooth holds.
Your comedy is gold
I’m a newbie , your video made me laugh your funny haha
A lot of these tips seemed kinda obv but still
I climbed in 4 different countries and at this point I don't even remember how many different gym. It has become an important part of visiting a new town for me - checking out the local climbing gyms. And I would say I am yet to have a bad experience community wise. It's actually quite nice everywhere (for now at least). So I don't agree with the part 3 of your video, but it doesn't mean that you can forget about caution when meeting strangers.
Building compounds around the rocks to charge people sounds like the american dream 😍
Just take the rocks from Fontainebleau, ship them to a Las Vegas gym and boom, profits.
What to expect from climbing: just DINO!!
If I could like this video twice I would
I’m on month 11 and have about five v6 climbs under my belt. Already booked tickets to Helsinki for month 12. Stay posted.
The slab slander is so real
So accurate
0:33 The type of guy who can miss all the boulders but hit the hardest for the win. That's why we love the church.
ive been climbing for a year and on top rope the highest grade ive done was a 6b+ but ive not done another one cus its to hard lol it was prity much a crimp pocket climb and just bourt my first pare of clombing choose and the differance is insane
I find lead climbing grades under my toprope level a fun way to train endurance, might help in your quest to send more 6b+
Fun.
I actually prefer to watch people climb a boulder I'm struggling on, I've learned a lot from watching others. Also a lot of people are appreciative if you offer them help.
I used to go to the climbing gym in the second clip Mozaic
You know what? I adore you after this video! Because you know what? I'm also a beginner climber who has only visited the gym 7 times) Maybe you hit the right TA
Love it 1:50 and 2:46
am a very bad boulder, but also dont have much time to boulder…. still i never do a problem after somebody has been working on it, specially if the person was struggling with it i can flash it… be kind to others!😊
Personally I get excited when domeone sends my project cause I get to see how it's supposed to be done.
Would you consider climbing ok for someone with a back injury? I've been watching your channel and I know this vid is 4 months old, but it seems quite fun
That’s so sick you’ve done 1,2 punch. I rarely get to see climbs I’ve done in UA-cam videos
indoor geek. my favorite specie
😂 great info
I dont know how gyms place holds differently but I recently went bouldering for the first time with a friend who I would consider pretty good (he did a V6-7 I think). For me I dont really have good grip strength but I was able to do a V3. The odd thing is, every V3 start in that gym was extremely hard. Like I felt comfortable starting on some of the V5s but some V3s I could not even start. Any thoughts on this?
North Mass Boulder at 7:51 I boulder there! Currently there is a dyno to a pocket set up
