uncoolbeans Even now, one can gain confidence, but only if one has the resilience and inner fortitude to practice. All we have now are because of people who were confident enough to build things that we now enjoy... or take for granted if we choose. If we take things for granted, that’s it... no improvement. If we build upon what has been given us, perhaps one day our reach will not extend just to the sky, but beyond it.

The military had done their job and couldn't continue to cruise in the carrier, unless the producers paid thousands of dollars more for reimbursement. Tony forked up over $10,000 of his own money so they would keep cruising for another 15 minutes and get many of those awesome shots.

“Up there we gotta push it… that’s our job.”
It’s the way Viper says it and the way that Tom Skerritt acts that gives me chills
It adds so much more depth to a relatively simple and potentially cheesy line
He looks up at the sky during the pause, almost wistfully
But the way his tone is so… distant, and kind of somber, you can tell he’s thinking about what exactly that means to a pilot
Putting everything on the line and praying that it works out
Because he brings it back to reality with the last part of the sentence, you can hear it in his voice; much more grounded and present
It is their job, in the sense of how it pays the bills and also because if they don’t? At best it means their death, at worst it means the deaths of other innocent people
Hats off to the writers, director, and especially Tom Skerritt
