      Wow, thank you for your lovely comments. Yes, you would do something very similar - but with vocals or guitar where you are recording through a microphone the best thing to do is clap your hands a couple of times. Then it is easy to match the peaks. I have some more videos planned for 2017 so do watch this space :)

    Good info.
    There's one trick I'd add to your information. Before you begin your main video, clap your hands three times with obvious hand motion.
    A lot of people don't realize that's why they use the clapperboards in Hollywood.
    Playing 3 notes like you did will work great but it's nice to have the additional visual of the hands clapping to help the sync process.

    • @MusicRepo
      @MusicRepo  9 років тому

      Jason Durken Thanks Jason, I always do that for talking head video-audio sync, but forgot to say! With the digital piano recording, the separate audio track I create only has the piano sound on it, transmitted via the line out and audio interface so a handclap wouldn't be picked up hence the three notes idea instead. However, I should perhaps have mentioned it for anyone recording an acoustic piano via a mic..... thanks for pointing it out!

    • @JasonDurken
      @JasonDurken 9 років тому +1

      Yeah, I'm not a music guy so I didn't fully understand the context. I like learning about audio because I can apply it too video. It's the often left out component of videos though probably most important.
      This info, like many of your videos translates well into the video/audio world as well as music.
      Great info as always!

      It's not a problem I have experienced with open camera. But maybe you could fix it with a bit of post production. Separate audio and video and line up correctly. Lots of editing software will let you do this ...

    Nicely explained... but why bother doing all this syncing when you could just record with a camera with good audio quality, that has a stereo microphone input, and it's all in one simple file, and no need for syncing? Am I missing something?

  • @pedroabreu23
    @pedroabreu23 7 років тому

    Unfortunately Camtasia does not render at 60fps (only up to 30). This makes a significant difference when it comes to faster or virtuosistic songs.
    Would you indicate some program to do this synchronization, but that would be able to render at 60 fps?

    I am interested in the second part of your video, where you mentioned the simple method to create a video where the audio and video signals are directly synchronised in one take, without this editing cutting and delating of the GoPro file. But I didn't get how I need to connect the GoPro, the interface and the PC. Could you be so kind and explain it to me? Do I have to connect the GoPro to the interface? Thank you in advance

    Hi Jane,
    First, love all your instructional videos, they are so helpful!
    I want to make a video, and record from my digital piano, plus voice without wearing monitor headphones. So, assuming I have a track with just the piano output, and an audio track from the microphone, (Wav file from piano plus audio track from mic, via a 4i4 USB interface to computer+DAW), and a video file (mp4 using computer cam,), how do I replace the piano audio on the video track with the audio from the piano, and keep my vocals? I have searched your channel for a vid for this, to no avail. Is this possible?

    Hi :) thanks for putting a video. what audio/video settings did you exported out? Mine seems to have badly compress the audio quality.

    • @MusicRepo
      @MusicRepo  8 років тому

      Sorry for delay in replying, only just seen this. Exported at CD quality 44.1 kHz, 16-bit

    • @_sa3_
      @_sa3_ 7 років тому

      I think it doesn't explain anything. Yes, CD has 44.1 kHz, 16-bit. That's true. But the true is also that poor quality MP3 64 kbit/s also has 44.1 kHz, 16 bit. So, probably we have to pay attention to some other parameters. And that's bitrate. And once again about CD quality. I've never seen any video file, which can carry real CD quality audio in it (1411 kbit/s). So, probably something is wrong here. Actually Kaman Ki has point asking you about exporting quality. I think it's a big miss that you didn't tell anything about exporting video, and where in the settings and which parameters to choose (especially for audio). All our work, when we aspire to achieve the best possible audio recording quality can be easily ruined if we will not pay attention for adjusting right audio parameters for audio when making final step of exporting video.
      Buy the way, I wanted to try Camtasia, but it supports only 64-bit processors. Probably will try PowerDirector, which can work on 32- and 64-bit processors and also has Screen Recorder and auto sync feature.

    I'm trying to do something a little different. I'm trying to make a video of myself singing and replace the camera audio with the studio track. I can't figure out the processing. This is the equipment that I have. A laptop connected to a focusrite interface. A camcorder with XLR inputs. The laptop has the Cubase recording software. A separate PC has Adobe Premiere software. .I also have two mics. I also have equipment for live performance. I would greatly appreciate if you could explain how you sync the live video with the studio track. ??????

    • @MusicRepo
      @MusicRepo  7 років тому

      Hi, thanks for your question. The easiest way is to clap 3 times before you begin. Then record and film yourself. Allow the camcorder to capture the sound, and also record yourself in Cubase. Export your recording to wav format. You can then import both the audio track you created and the video. Then you need to line the audio up exactly. The three spikes will help. You can do this in iMovie on Mac, and you can do it in Camtasia, or most other video editing software. In iMovie you need to choose to view the audio waveforms so you can do this. Once you have the audio lined up exactly you can mute the audio in the video track and just hear the high quality recording.

    • @cantor50
      @cantor50 7 років тому

      Thanks for your response. I understand that the video and recording can be put into sync if the video and
      and recording are made simultaneously (using a clapper and field recorder). However, my problem is that the vocal recording is done completely separate in a recording studio. The recording is done in a sound proof room with a very sensitive condenser mic. Audio equipment is then used to master the final track. The video on the other hand is performed on stage in front of a live audience. How do technicians get a quality video and quality recording in sync???

    hi there, firstly just want to say that you videos are awesome!
    Ive been wanting to upload a video of me playing the piano to youtube, however when I tried recording the video using the webcam of my macbook pro, the video was shockingly bad, also the sound of the keys being pressed ruined the music. Ive seen some videos of people playing the piano on youtube and they sound flawless.
    I have an iphone 6s and am thinking this is the best way to record HD video, however the mic of the ipjone isnt very good. Could you please advise me what i need to do. from what i understand, i need to purchase an audio interface to connect to my iphone (via the headphone jack) which will allow me to record superb sound and cut out the annoying key tapping sound right? which app on the iphone would record video and audio at the same time? Im sorry for the many questions, but i find this infuriatingly confusing. Thanx in advance

      +lookatcha I reckon if you recorded using the iRig Pro Duo then you would get a good result (see it on Amazon here amzn.to/2Xy6CLW (affiliate link))

      even if you are making multiple takes, this is the way to align a separate audio and video track. The other option is to get an interface that will work directly with your iphone 7 so that the high quality audio is already embedded in the video track.
