      If you check out the Samson G-Track Pro mic, it's a USB mic with a built in audio interface to accept a 1/4" jack on the back and it allows you to record your voice and an instrument through the same mic through either 2 Track or Mono.

    Thank you!! Finally. I've watched more than 20 videos about different interfaces, and you are the only one who actually covered the inputs and connections, and explained how to connect a microphone, as well as the method to connect Mono and Stereo inputs.
    I learned I need a 4i4 interface. Thanks again!

    My old Roland ua-25ex interface died on me and I picked up the Focusrite scarlett 4i4. Very happy with it.
    I run my midi cables from my Korg M50 into the 4i4 and my Shure sm-58 (probably around 40 years old!)
    into the mic input on the 4i4. I'm using Cakewalk by Bandlab as my DAW. Still pinching myself that this software is free. The equivalent of Sonar platinum which was $499. Really enjoy your videos. Very instructive and I like how your explanations are kept simple and concise. Thumbs up!

      Hi, I could use some help, I'm new to recording. I have a midi controller that I want to connect to an audio inteface using the midi IN/OUT. Do I need to buy two midi cables to plug both midi IN and OUT from the controller to the interface or just one cable from the controller to the audio interface. Thanks in advance!

    • @MusicRepo
      @MusicRepo  4 роки тому +2

      If you only want to use the controller to drive virtual instruments in your software you only need one cable (from out of keyboard to in of interface). If you want to capture MIDI tracks in DAW, edit and then play back through controller (assuming it has onboard sounds) you'd need two. It sounds as if you want to use it as a controller so I'm guessing one will do

    Hi, I'm so appreciating all of your videos (I've been watching for a few hours for a couple of day) but still not getting my system to work. I've learned a lot though! LOL Here's my set up and what I'm trying to do. Getting tired and weary trying to figure it out.
    Trying to get set up to teach only through Manycam and Zoom. I don't want to record anything other than a video promo for my classes, which I don't need a DAW for.
    I have a Focuslite Scarlett Solo. Downloaded the Focuslite control panel with driver (uninstalled it and did it again even to make sure it worked!)
    Also, downloaded CakeWalk just because I thought having a DAW might make this all work.
    I have my mic plugged in with the 48v button on. It's working just fine with the gain light.
    I have a Yamaha P-125. It has a gray USB plug that goes to the back that I learned was the MIDI cord (from you) and is also supposed to be the audio as well, I heard you say on another video.
    I have the Focusrite plugged into my computer and the gray Yamaha cord plugged into a hub. I tried plugging both into the computer and still nothing so I don't think it's a hub issue since everything else works on the hub.
    I choose Input as the Focusrite and Output as the Focusrite on both my computer and Manycam. In the FR controller I have it set to "air" and "line" (there is "instrument" but it didn't work either). If I click on the tab that says, "Output routing" it says, "Output routing is not supported on this device.
    I'm 6 hours in on trying to figure this out. LOL I've been running Manycam and zoom for over 3 years now so good there. Just can't hear the keyboard other than what the mic pics up. grrrrrrrrrrrr
    Question is, do I need the stereo lines with the MIDI cord to make it work? I have to buy them but before I do I thought I'd ask.
    I REALLLY want to throw in the towel but can't! HELP! Please!!! 🤣✌💕

    Nice video. You teach patiently and clearly. Thank you. My issue is that I use the same interface and set up (but with guitar instead of keyboards most of the time). The guitar (or piano) channel is fine but the vocal channel is polluted by sounds from the instrument. All is well and good until I try to process the vocal signal in my DAW and discover how cluttered/dirty up that channel really is. Is there a way to get two CLEAN signals? I don’t think there is

    Last week I tried to record vocals and keyboard at the same time and really had trouble with the vocal mic picking up the hammer action of the piano keys. I was using an electret-condensator mic. I was wondering whether it would make sense to use a singing mic such as a Shure SM58 instead.

      Make sure your condenser mic is using a cardioid pattern and is pointed towards you and away from the piano. Having the mic further away from the piano would also help, although that might be difficult while singing and playing at the same time.

      You may be able to try turning down volume of the digital piano for 1st 2-3 seconds on the recording while playing to pick up just the tak tak noise, then use this as the noise profile for noise reduction. Not sure if this would exactly work, but worth a try.

    Bang goes the conviction that (audio) technology is boys’ stuff! It takes a lady Jane to to straight-talk a newbie through the jungle. I’m just stuck with one burning question before investing in an audio interface. Forgive me if the answer is lurking behind one of your many hot-links. I have a legacy keyboard Roland U-20 and want to control instruments in Garageband or other DAWs through MIDI (because I don’t have the confidence to record live audio from the Roland instruments. In the DAW I can edit my inaccuracies. Of course I’d like to progress to recording voice and another live instrument (e.g. my son on guitar). I have two mics: a condensor and a dynamic. I guess the audio interface would normally take care of that bit. BUT … both mentioned mics have different connectors: the old Yamaha dynamic has a 3.5mm jack, the Røde videomic GO II has USB-C (I have dedicated cables outputting to USB-c or USB-A). I don’t want to record to a digital recorder (yet); rather to Garageband and the like on iPad Pro or MacBook Pro (USB-C and USB-A respectively). I didn’t see anything that looks like a USB port on the audio interface in your video, nor did I hear you mention it.
    While pioneering through the bush-trail I noticed that I couldn’t record voice and MIDI keyboard input simultaneously on the MacBook, even though it has 3 USB ports. The iPad Pro seems even more handicapped with its single (and only) USB-C. If I had a dongle with various (USB) ports, I don’t know if and how I could record on different tracks (one for the keyboard, one for each mic) simultaneously.
    HELP! I haven’t solved that one yet 😩. The guitar would be mostly electric (iMic is available). I have a wired MIDI IN/OUT to USB-A interface.
    I’d much appreciate advice on this connectivity question!

    Very helpful video. I am a former analog recording musician trying to make the leap to DAW’s, etc. Still have a 4 track reel to reel that miraculously works and have a mixdown in stereo of a 4 piece I had in the 80’s. Unfortunately the master tape was lost with the individual instruments and vocals recorded. Just wondering if there’s anything I can do with current technology to clear up some of the “muddiness” of the bass and drums, and raise or lower the volume of the other instruments and vocals. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    • @mitlanderson
      @mitlanderson 3 роки тому

      You could apply some EQ and cut out certain frequencies to lessen muddiness, but if all the intruments are on the same track then you probably can't raise the volume of any of them individually.

    So each Focusrite input can only process mono input? I am a little bit confused why we cannot have a stereo recording on the Go piano if the headphone output is stereo, using only one of the Focusrite inputs? Btw, it is an informative video, thumbs up!

    • @MusicRepo
      @MusicRepo  3 роки тому

      Hi, you can use a TRS to TS splitter and record stereo. I have shown that on a different video. But if you want to record your voice and keyboard at the same time and only have two channel interface, no mixer, then you need to leave one channel for the mic hence why I record mono keyboard here. Do you mean that we need an audio interface like the one you showed to make it work ?
    Because my numeric piano is a yamaha p515.
    I putted a mono cable in the "L/L+R" output linked to my Focusrite Solo, but the sound is not as clear as the original. The quality is like muffled.
    Does it mean that my focusrite is not compatible for that kind of piano ?

    Whenever I play a song using my MIDI connection, it comes out sounding really weird, only playing certain notes or chords at a time. Any suggestions?

    Can you record keyboard audio into a daw as audio and then copy it onto another track as midi. And then selecting a VST to play it and record it, thereby having two of the same tracks but with different instruments. Than k you, Your tutorials are the best.

    Can you make a video explaining how to record a video using the equipment of an interface, a mic and a keyboard? When I record a video with my keyboard, my mic goes through and I can hear the keyboard when playing, but the keyboard is not picking up on the video... please help.

    Hi Jane, I am thinking if the condenser mic used to record vocals will also pick up the sound produced by the keyboard. What do you suggest? Thanks in advance.

      I have this same question...seems like there's got to be a way to monitor the piano on headphones, if it has enough output jacks (?)

    Hey, hope this message finds you well. I have setup since a while something similar to what you have shown here and on another video, mostly for live recording, filming myself playing Hammond Organ. I was also wondering to use a software similar to Pro Tools for recording, but the Pro Tools Intro, which is free, has issues on Windows an bhangs, I was wondering for some free or low costs alternative. I just need to simply create an audio track for a premade backing track and another instrument track for recording me playing on top of that backing track. Which one is the software you are using in here?

    Hi, I want to record my poetry professionally. Please tell me a microphone and audio interface that gives me professional quality. But my room is not sound proof. At night, the sound of a motorcycle and barking dogs comes in my room from outside. But I also want to do a professional recording. Please tell me. my budget is around $350.

    This was really helpful, thank you. One question: how did you connect your interface to your computer? Thanks again.

    Ma'am , can we use focusrite solo for recording the vocals & piano simultaneously on audacity ?
    If yes, kindly guide how to do it.

      I dont have the solo, but if im right you have one port for a mic, and one for a line input (jack input) so i guess you should connect the mic to the mic port, and buy the right cable with on one end a mono jack 6.35mm, and the other end depends on your piano/instrument output (im not sure but i think that end of the cable has to be stereo for digital piano's, idk if its the same for guitar.)
      You can always call the provider of where you want to buy the cable for the right information.

    Hi! Great tips. Thank you kindly. A quick question. After recording the piano, should I leave that way or can I effects to it? If yes, what effects can be used to mix piano?

      Most software will have EQ presets that you can layer on top of the track. Such presets in Garageband include Grand Piano 01,02,03 etc. There is a whole list. I also add a little compression, ambience and a small amount of reverb onto my piano track. Hope this helped.

    Is there a way to split the signal from your basic keyboard into a L and a R output for stereo sound?
