You can see the atrophy in Kurt's arms during this time as well. Kurt was much thicker in WWE but by the end, he was starting to lose mass. By the time his addiction won out in TNA, you can see the physical decline in his body. His knees were also shot and were now permanently semi bent when he stood and walked. Yet he still moved and worked as if nothing was wrong with him. It's insane that he lived through his TNA run. I seriously thought we were going to lose Kurt due to drug abuse during his TNA run.

Benoit's eventual fate was a combination of multiple brain injuries (due to his signature move off the top rope: Head Buster, or whatever it was called) and most likely, steroid usage. But more than anything, the head trauma. The mans was also in plenty of hardcore matches taking chairs to the face and literally hitting the mat out of the ring with his noggin. There's plenty of good videos on the subject on UA-cam.
It seems that angle only relished in pain killers. While I'm sure he was on some supplements, and even some muscle juice, he's never been unnaturally bulky like Benoit or Eddie Guerrero at the end of their careers.

I'm really not looking forward to having to clean up after my fourth surgery that's coming up, I don't feel as strong or resilient as a few years ago, once my pain levels subside I think I'm going to have to get into some kind of rehab, it's a fantastic painkiller and has allowed me to continue to work but it changes you and once you're dependent it completely had you.

Yep true, but Dixie Carter is a moron so there you go. Also as great as his matches were he should not have been allowed to wrestle let alone hold a title after one Dui let alone 3. I respect him as a great wrestler but he also could have not only killed himself but someone else in or out of the ring. Also While I agree throwing it in his face on TV was the wrong thing to do. He was known to cheat on Karen several times. Jarrett's biggest issue was he lied about it to Dixie Carter. Most wrestlers have said don;t bring your relationship into the business. Look at plenty of examples this. But back to my point not blaming Kurt for his marriage falling apart. Shit happens sometimes, But TNA literally sent Jarrett home for a secret relationship with Karen but let a perced up 3 DUIs wrestler wrestle in their main event and hold their world title. Of course same company sent Jeff Hardy to the ring so anyway, didn't mean to go off on a tangent. I am glad Kurt turned his life around and is in a better place. JJ was a widow, but can be manipulative and maybe did manipulate the storyline to be be closer to Karen.
Karen is in a marriage with an alcoholic and drug addict and forced to live out marriage stuff on tv for husbands (and hers) career.
Kurt is said drug addict/ alcoholic who is now living out his marriage break up and divorce/ child custody on tv. And you can't say "walk away" because they are all tied to the promotion. Wrestling business is incestuous. And if you come into it damaged, it will Continue to damage people.
Hence why when people blame HHH for chynas death, they fail to see how ridiculously complicated the relationship was, even if HHH had broke up with her normally.

And taking into account that wrestling industry never stops, it also doesn't allow the people involved to sit back and reflect on making good choices under the pressure of putting on another great show 3 or more times a week, on and off camera, interviews, promotional materials, travelling--they end up making fast choices, even if they're the wrong ones a lot.
They also end up sacrificing a lot for their time in the ring, including some of their personal integrity; I can't tell them it's wrong, since it's their life, but it does seem to come at a cost of some of their humanity. And the story of "infidelity", if we can even call it that in this case, is very common even among the population, sadly.
The research on romantic cheating shows that it is indeed a more complicated topic than people wish it was; and to that conclusion, the fans will never truly know the full story of how Kurt and his wife, and JJ, got mixed up and all around. Kurt Angle easily had the best matches of his career in TNA. Apart from the benoit and Lesnar matches in WWE nothing even comes close to what he did in TNA. His run there was freaking awesome. Dude was a machine !

Actually the matches in his feud with Eddie Guerrero in 2004, his match with Shawn Michaels at WM 21(2005) and his legendary World Title Match against The Undertaker at No Way Out 2006 where some of his all time best matches in WWE. It was towards the end of his run in WWE(After April/May 2006) where his body was breaking down where he couldn’t stay in WWE because of the full time schedule bs that Vince forced his “Superstars” to go through back then.
TNA was a better fit and he didn’t have any neck injuries in his 10 years in that company, WWE is regarded as the most Unsafe Company to Wrestle in. Ever. Just look at Hell In a Cell from KOTR 1998 in the Attitude Era as a huge example of that.
For Angle it was that concussion he got from Triple H at SummerSlam 2000 that started his run of injuries up until No Way Out 2006. He suffered I believe 4 broken neck injuries(By 2003 it was so bad he had to have a Short Term Neck Surgery just to come back to WWE to Wrestle again in 2-3 months) plus other injuries from June 2001 until June 2006.
Best Kurt Angle Matches In WWF/E ever:
      SummerSlam 2000-vs Triple H & The Rock(Triple Threat Match)
No Way Out 2001-vs The Rock
      WM X-7-vs The Crippler
      KOTR 2001-vs Shane McMahon(In a Street Fight)
SummerSlam 2001-vs Stone Cold(During the Invasion Angle)
No Mercy 2001-vs RVD & Stone Cold(Another Triple Threat Classic Match)
Vengeance 2002-vs The Rock & Undertaker (Regarded as the best ever Triple Threat Match In WWF/E History, I agree with that statement)
SummerSlam 2002-vs Rey Mysterio(Angle’s Best Ever Opening Match On a PPV ever)
      Royal Rumble 2003-vs The Crippler
      WM 19-vs Brock Lesnar
Vengeance 2003-vs Big Show & Brock Lesnar(Angle’s Comeback Match on PPV & His best Triple Threat Match Performance ever)
60 Minute Iron Man Match(on SD in 2003)-vs Brock Lesnar
      No Mercy 2003-vs John Cena
      SummerSlam 2004-vs Eddie Guerrero
WM 21-vs Shawn Michaels(Angle’s best Individual Performance at a WM ever)
No Way Out 2006-vs Undertaker(Angle’s Best match against The Undertaker ever One-On-One).
Angle had the best performances when it came to PPV matches in WWF/E from 2000 to 2006 more than anybody(other than Shawn Michaels and Possibly Undertaker). His Downfall in WWE was politics and constant injuries imho. Just look at his feud with HHH in 2000 as an example it was all politics when it came to HHH always getting the win/looking strong against Angle especially at Unforgiven 2000.

Like so many musicians in the past, drugs enabled them to do things others could not. Lots of people have talent. Few unlock the dark powers provided by narcotics, and even fewer have the talent to find the balance necessary to not just stay alive, but continue their quest to greatness. He’s just lucky his addiction never did a dive off of the cage in a metaphorical sense like he did in his wrestling matches. Happy to hear he has turned it around, even if his life has been brutal.

I started watching wrestling around about 2011, and via TNA (I wasn't aware WWE was a thing until the summer of 2014...even I'm not entirely sure how I wasn't aware of the company until then), so I was watching the last 2 years of Kurt's Perc Angle matches at the time, even if I was still a little too young to fully know what was going on at the time. Hell, I have a few of the TNA pay-per-view DVD's that had Kurt during his Perc Angle days, including that Abyss match with the stage Senton as well. He was one of my favourite wrestlers alongside AJ Styles, Sting, and James Storm at the time as well. I'm just glad that Kurt is doing better nowadays, even in retirement.

Honestly I always assumed a Pro Wrestlers diet was just straight cocaine for the show, opiates for recovery, and Steroids for dessert. I don’t think I’ve ever looked at someone who chooses to willingly backflip into metal objects and thought to myself “that’s someone whose obviously rawdogging reality!”

I got a disease called Trigeminal Neuralgia. My face feels like it’s on fire 24/7. So I turned to percs because it’s the only thing that made not feel the pain. Man oh man. It turned my life upside down. I literally remember having a handful of pills saying out loud. “Fuck it” and then just throwing them down. It was one of the hardest things to ever quit. Glad Kurt was able to kick them.

The suicide disease, the only thing that comes close to the pain is severe cluster headaches I hear. You have nothing but respect from me my friend, Im an ex opiate addict myself and it was SO HARD to stop, it broke me as a man at the time, with your disease I think I would still be using full time. If people actually understood the gravity of your disease then they would understand how insanely difficult it is to get off pain medication, a lot of people just choose addiction, anything to dull the pain. You are a very strong person my friend

As an recovering addict myself, I can say you also feel... like not emotionally obviously but physically, kind of your best. Like, aside from nodding out when you take too many or that sort of thing, you just kinda put everything into whatever dumb thing you're doing. Like, I feel like I was the best I ever was when I was throwing my life away and taking oxycodone at stupid shit like world of warcraft arena and stuff. Like, if he could just pop some percocets or oxys and forget about all the dumb shit going on in his personal life and just put everything into his wrestling and he was high and it just makes you feel kind of invincible in a way. I'm sure dude had nerve pain and all kinds of pain in his back and neck but when you're high you can just ignore that and do risky shit like jumping off of 15 foot cages and shit, ya know?
