The father kidnapping Alex is what led to both girls surviving. Remember the woman had the kids in a hole & only brought them out because of the cop & father showing up. After the father showed up & left the black girl escaped. The fact that Alex was missing led the cop back to where they had Alex which lead to the cop going back to the woman's home to inform her they found Alex which led to the 2nd girl being found. The cop didn't believe Alex or his kidnapper woman was a suspect & it was only because of the father that they remained involved. Also the Movie did mess up because they could have charged Alex with reckless driving, failure to follow instructions & eluding an officer & held him for a while so they got that part wrong. Alex may have beaten it due to mental incompetency but there's no way they would have let him walk in 48 hours.
Even as Wolverine, Jackman has never quite shown the levels of (devastated) rage that he goes to in this movie.

I'm sure torture shuts a lot of people down , especially people who learned to cope/survive sustained abuse like Alex. I get the feeling they could have gotten more information out of him by being overly kind, helpful & making him feel safe & cared for & building trust. But I guess that's the point, we as humans often make assumptions & we act out of fear & rage and make terrible choices
Very true, but they didn't know (of his trauma or innocence). The assumption was that Alex was guilty and the monster who took their children, so most peoples first thought wouldn't be kindness, it would be hate and revenge.

@@wandameadows5736 It's astonishing how people miss the point of this movie. Loki had all the pieces to solve this--he had the man with the maze medallion, the father's assertion of how his crimes, and the second kid's drawing of the same maze. He might've gotten his answers, but because he was aggressive with both the victims of the case, Alex and the other guy, they got nothing and actually closed down their leads. The torture and violence did not help, it served the enemy.

Hugh Jackman and Gyllenhal got robbed for Oscar nods….this is Villenueves magnum opus I can’t get enough of it…it asks the question “who’s the real prisoner?”
The Catholic symbolism and prayers are very powerful in this movie. I’m not sure if a lot of people understood that when Keller was saying the Lord’s Prayer outside of Alex’s holding cell he made, he couldn’t finish the words “as we forgive those who trespass against us” because he was clearly not forgiving Alex. He was indeed losing his faith, just like Holly and her husband intended.
The makeup department did a great job on Paul Danos busted face 👏
@12:50 this has been one of my favourite movies of all time ever since I first saw it in theatres and I just realized that what Loki says to Alex here could be a HUGE reason why he told Keller as little as possible - because by withholding information he might finally send Holly "to jail for a long time" after "everything she'd done for [him]" 😮 it might've been deliberate, not just his disability/ selective mutism
“Religious Dexter” is a helluva pitch for a movie/tv show.
46:15 “come about!”- gosh she’s a diamond, they always quote other movie lines, I do the same thing when I re-watch and get to that scene, & you can see her the excitement in her eyes before she says it, like the excitement that you get when an opportunity for a dad joke presents itself

I LOVE this film. Especially the 2 leads. Jackman has NEVER been SCARIER. His intensity and drive in this film. Insane.
And Jake was this Dark avenger. His totally the good guy, the hero, but he has such a darkness about him, you feel completely safe ehen his on screen, u do not doubt his the hero, and yet he seems tortured and dark. I love it. Also, the cinematography is always beautifl when deakins is around

They all became prisoners. Everyone. Paul Dano was in, there will be blood, the Riddler in Batman, and played a young Brian Wilson, Beach Boys , biopic movie. What an actor. I don't see how the entire cast, wasn't drinking themselves to passout, every night!! Directed by Dennis villanueve, a masterful job. I thought it was a Nolan brother... I don't know if Hugh was better here, or The Prestige! How there wasn't several Oscars for this movie, is unreal!

This was the first movie after becoming a father that I watched and really felt that perspective shift in myself, if that makes sense. I knew I was feeling this movie a lot harder than I would have before. This movie is so dark, but that fact makes me love it. Might have been my first Villenueve film as well, but I can't remember if I saw this or Enemy first.
OMG HI Late Party I'm a huge fan by the way I love your movie reactions so much keep up the good work, I havens seen that. movie prisoners before and even the actors did a phenomenal job, I feel so bad for the guy on what he is going trough a difficult time and it's not easy for everyone to go through this process it my option I think he should investigate more and what happened to his daughter and they really need to find out who did this to the daughter, it made me feel so bad for the family.

Police don't get to hold someone because of reckless driving. A ticket, and/or a court date may be set, but they don't keep them in jail. There's not enough room for all the reckless drivers around..

Wolverine is my favorite super character by far, a large part of that is due to Hugh Jackman. After watching Logan, I didn't speak to anyone for a couple of days. With that said, this is my favorite Hugh Jackman performance. He may be known for Wolverine but when it comes to drama, the man can act his ass off. Kudos to everyone who played their part in this great film.

He's the boy that escaped from the couple. And has past trauma from it, probably dissassociated from it all and therefore keeps on trying to reinvent what happened to him.

Alex/Barry abused the dog because it was his aunts. He was taking his frustration out on his aunt. It's also possible that he hoped that someone was watching (the police, who were supposed to be keeping him under surveillance).

I watched this for the first time today in preparation for your reaction.. All I knew about it was that it was Directed by Denis Villeneuve, so I was expecting Sci Fi, or a Sci Fi Element hahaha. Even though I didn't get that, this was still amazing and OMFG please someone re-do the Oscars for 2013 and just give EVERYONE in this movie an Oscar... Denis Villeneuve's best film in my opinion.
Is it a coincidence that Paul Danos character wears green, he hums the batman theme and Hugh Jackmans character tells him to stop speaking in riddles... Then low and behold he's the Riddler.
I think they already knew here that he was picked for the role and chucked in early Easter eggs.
