It's nice that we can get the case, it does seem like a nice case, but what's the point when we can't get anything to put in it? Is it good at keeping my cat warm?

    Genuine attempts innovation like this should definitely be applauded.
    Maybe not necessary to chuck all your money at all the different parts, but does bring up fantastic ideas. How about cases with more customizability like being able to move around that front I/O wherever you want?
    Exciting ideas, especially if it ever trickles down into the mid-range market rather than this more extreme pricing.

      @@theboldfuture2341 agreed. I've said it before, many times... it's easy to make a box, a lot harder to make a bad box...
      To make a box better for the design purpose? Just falls into place. This is a good thing, but it definitely is NOT the next new big thing. It's a linear progression that should've happened(did, just not for shelf-consumers) 20 years ago.

    • @moldyshishkabob
      @moldyshishkabob 3 роки тому +4

      @@theboldfuture2341 I worded my comment poorly, my bad.
      I don't like the idea either, hence saying "maybe not necessary to chuck all your money at all the different parts" regarding basically "DLC" parts. In particular, I think that's a terrible practice for something that should be much more like the Silent Base 802 that gets frequently put into sponsorship slots (for good reason) with its choice of "sound dampening vs airflow".
      But, with the ideas from the Silent Base 802 and the O11D Evo, I think that much better ability for a user to interact with the design of the case is a fantastic idea. Having the _choice_ to have one's front I/O on the top, front, bottom, or side of a case or having the _choice_ to even do what Framework does and swap out what ports the I/O even is I think would be awesome.
      *And with it being built into the case from the get-go.* To make myself clear.

    • @pdoge
      @pdoge 3 роки тому +3

      @@theboldfuture2341 If it would be included in standard, probably the MSRP would just be 20$ higher. It is 140€ in Germany which is something around 160$, only 10€ more expensive then the Mini and cheaper then all alternatives mentioned by Steve, so the extra 15€ is fine with me if I personally come to the conclusion that the performance of the (nicer looking) Glas front does not cut it for me. In this case, I am of the opinion that selling these addons extra is a good decision to keep base price comparatively low (though the 90 bucks for the standup GPU mount is a ripoff lol)

    • @oscarcharliezulu
      @oscarcharliezulu 3 роки тому +4

      Agreed and I personally don’t think it’s that expensive given the flexibility and costs of stocking those parts. GPU prices make cases seem trivially cheap - when you have a $2500 GPU how can you complain about and extra $100 on some great add ons

  • @awsmMalicious

    I wish they tested GPU temps when the case is inverted and also tested the more common 6 or 9 fan setups that are usually done in such a case. The standardized test is a good way to compare performance but let's be real, in reality you will go with a completely different fan setup if you go with o11D.

    Thank you for this... I have an O11D purchased a little over a year ago, right before this came out. I'm in the middle of finally diving into the true liquid cooling realm, and purchased a bunch of EK goodies. Everything fits this case of what I already have (pre-rebuild prep time), and the information you provided made me realize this new variant was enough upgrades to swap (that mixed with being able to build out a new case while stripping the old). You all seem pretty chill as well, which is a nice touch to the overhyptastic feel of some other channels... More of a 'these are the details' kinda deal. Thanks again for being real.

    Should do noise normalized tests for cases. I'd like to see which cases achieve good balance between decent air flow so fans don't spin too fast and make the noise but also have some sound dampening and some panels closed off to reduce the noise coming out when it is made.

    • @libertyprime9307
      @libertyprime9307 2 роки тому

      He does include noise normalized tests, on all case reviews. But obviously it's a bit different in cases with no stock fans, because the thermals:noise is highly dependent on which fans you choose.
      Regarding the closed panels for sound dampening, Steve's take on it is that there is a place for it, but in general just turning fans low RPM on a mesh panel is better than cranking high RPM on a closed panel, because at least you have more headroom on a mesh panel.

And I gotta disagree with including the front mesh panel. The VAST majority of builders using this case are gonna water cool. I even air cool, and I wouldn't use the front mesh panel. Two glass panels just looks nicer, and the side air intake works just fine.

      The thing with the mesh is that it can even benefit water cooling a lot. Someone with the O11 Air Mini put a 280mm rad in the front of it and got the best CPU temps they've ever had in a case. Typically the radiator is used as exhaust but it can be cooled better as an intake you just have to add supplementary intake fans elsewhere in the case to cool the rest of the components.
      2 glass panels do look good but it's too much glass for me and yeah... fingerprints.😅 Since there isn't a bigger version of the O11 Air Mini (it's a bit different than the reg O11 Air and cools the CPU better as well) this O11 Dynamic Evo with the mesh front is basically it. I've been considering the Air Mini for a while but this Evo is looking like a slightly better option. Anyway just my opinion. Good day to you.

However since it is a cube, it can be oriented with the motherboard horizontal also. Downside, the clear panel is acrylic instead of TG. Upside It comes with 200mm front fan.

    An O11D XXL EVO with 420mm radiator support would probably make me regret getting a Corsair 7000D airflow. Not that I think the 7000D is bad in any way. I love it. It’s just that the thought of having 3x140mm top and bottom creating a wind tunnel around my 3090 sounds really nice and if I mount motorized remote controlled wheels underneath, it would make for a nice improvised Roomba 😄

    Great content, thank you for having the specific professional knowledge on specs and quality others lack.
    I thought from the start that you either had to buy mesh or have no front panel but it is nice to see that they included the glass front, which is likely going to be the desired front option in the case at it’s price, and it is also likely the more expensive of the two.
    I always wish for most things to be included in a purchase BUT always better to have a less expensive case, with optional add on’s for those that want it, rather than include them all and make people pay for what they aren’t using.

Reversibility, the modularity of the internal brackets, the panels, the hot swap bay, and the modular front IO have that same "build it your way" feel from CaseLabs, but appear to have a much more modern and refined design. Even the hefty pricetag and a la carte "extras" fit the mold! :)

    Not really loving the rising trend of DLC on cases. Especially when it seems one of those "optional" choices appears to be holding airflow hostage. It doesn't matter as much here because of side intake but I get the sinking feeling we might see this become common place.

      It is cheaper for manufacturers to make a single case and instead of having a regular and airflow version of it you can just have a seperate airflow panel which the manufacturer sells separately since if most people only want the glass version then the manufacturer does not need to sell an airflow version and for those who do prefer the airflow they can just buy the airflow front panel (I am not saying its a good thing but this is one of the main reasons manufacturers do this)

      @@zahidshabir4038 I don't really care their reasons, what I'm afraid of it this being abused. All cases shipping with glass/solid front panels with no option for mesh on the initial purchase. Got to pay $20+shipping extra for the privilege of cooling your parts. Oh, look at that, I/O is a single USB-C port now and if you want more that'll be $20+shipping. More than a single 3.5" and 2.5" mounting option? $20+shipping please.
      They'll spin it as "convenience" and being pro-consumer. You only REALLY need airflow for high end builds and if you are building one of those you can afford $20 dollars, right? Who needs more than a single USB-C front panel connector in 202x? Front panel audio? What for? Why make customers pay for things they don't need! Who uses 3.5" drives? or more than a single 2.5" drive anymore with M.2 being a thing now. If you need those you're just a niche.
      We're just trying to keep the price of the case down as low as possible by providing only the barest of features that appeal to most people. What do you mean case prices are exactly the same as they were before we stripped out all those previously baseline features! Haven't you heard of inflation!

    My setup is a full water-cooled setup where I kept the glas front panel and use two 360 and two 120 radiators in the case (and an external 200mm radiator). This is a lot of surface to keep the GPU and CPU cool and the water at 40C max even under a high load while still being very, very quiet.

I wanted to respond to one of your comments about the lack of fans, as this case's versatility is what drew me to it, and I don't like the style of Lian Li's over priced fans. If your point is that for having no fans, it should be a bit cheaper (which I think is what you're saying), I can totally get behind that! - I had an Air Mini with top exhaust 280 Arctic LFII, 140mm fans in front and bottom, with 120x2 as side exhaust and had a silent case with insane gpu and cpu thermals
    - currently have an Evo with 3x120 bottom intake, 3x120 top exhaust, and 280mm AIO as side exhaust, and although the backside of the 3090 isnt being cooled directly, and that backside memory sensor reads a few degrees higher, overall the GPU and CPU temps dropped, either due to more spaced components or fan config creating negative pressure vacuum chamber

    I still remember and kind of miss a gaming computer from DELL I once had. It was the XPS720 with the BTX motherboard "standard". I remember it being a beast after the free mobo upgrade and it sure sounded like a jet engine of a sort when booting up. I mean, it might have been a freaking heavy computer in terms of weight but not only did the inside look cool hence it kind of was inverted because of the board layout, it also provided great cooling if not the the best air cooling compared to the ATX boards at this time. Wish Intel would have kept it alive and force pushed it onto the global market. Might be expensive to build but where cooling becomes so important nowadays, they might as well just bring it back.
