Regarding not being able to find a planet for the Skrulls, we can't really know if G'iah was just making that up. The show has established earlier on that the Skrull transformation is a seperate process from the mind-connection thing that gives them the memories of whomever they're copying. We don't see G'iah transform into Fury, so we don't know whether or not she also took his memories in order to have a real conversation with Gravik. If she didn't, then she would just be saying whatever she needed to make Gravik feel like he's justified and like he's beaten Fury.

    • @gork8468
      @gork8468 Рік тому +7

There are plenty of planets that are habitable in the MCU. We see several over the movies. I don't think the problem was finding them a new world as much as it was Fury realizing the fact the Skrulls are *hated*. Until this 'peace talk' plot point the Kree would carpet nuke them into oblivion any place they tried to settle, and there are probably a few dozen (hundred) races that would do the same. Maybe that's why he decided, behind the scenes, that the only real way to keep his promise was to try and broker peace between them.

    • @thegreatjedi309
      @thegreatjedi309 Рік тому

In the Captain Marvel movie, it's established that transformation grants access to recent memories, and quizzing on long-term memory is one way to detect Skrull imposters. Maybe touching with the hand can absorb more, while the machine overcomes natural limitations and allow Skrulls to fully absorb everything.
Gi'ah had made contact with Fury to receive the Harvest and be briefed on the plan, so she definitely had access to absorb his memories. Also, from a storytelling standpoint, this scene of long-ass exposition is intended for delivering plot and lore to us viewers.
The most logical scenario is that Gi'ah vocalised Fury's true thoughts for the ruse to be as persuasive as possible, in a "tell all because I'm dying and there's no point keeping it in anymore" kinda way. Dropping a bunch of lies, nonsense, and misdirection on the audience in a season finale without clearing it up is plain stupid.

I enjoyed the G'iah reveal and the subsequent fight. On paper I just really didn't expect giving anyone a whole Harvest's worth of powers but they actually did it - and I think letting Gravik do it because you're surprising him with G'iah obtaining the same abilities made perfect sense.
Led to a really enjoyable fight, hard not to jump up when Mantis's antennae come out and I agree the look of Emilia Clarke with Captain Marvel's glow was exciting. I have my issues with the show and even the finale (it kinda wrapped up really quick), but that fight might be up there as a favourite among finale showdowns for me.
One thing though that makes it kind of awkward is that going into the show and as it progressed I really wasn't expecting much to come from G'iah but now that she has all this power surely she has to become more prominent to the MCU? Which I'd absolutely be all for but I wish the show built her up better for it and I really don't know if/when we'll see her again which has been an issue with characters in these D+ shows.

    GREEEAT Reaction, good lady.
1 Gravik is dead. Extremis cannot recoup sudden catastrophic vital organ destruction. In Iron Man 3 Tony killed Savin by blasting out his thorax; Pepper pretty much explosively obliterated Killian.
2 The reason Giah victoriously outperformed Gravik is because all his tactical choices were focused on effective attack and Giah's savvily included effective counterattack: Ghost's evasive Phasing; Mantis's subduing Empathysis.
    3 Gravik had two demeanors:
Dispassionate ("wooden"), objective minded, canny and cunning, when interacting with the Rebel operatives.
Zealous, egomaniacal, spiteful and disillusioned when confronting his failed paternal and avuncular figures Nick Fury and Talos.
4 What many are not getting about President Ritson's xenophobic extremism, is he barely survived an assassination by clandestine extraterrestrials, one of whom was his military attache James Rhodes, who was the usher of the attempted assassination, and goading him into attacking innocent Russia to instigate a world war culminating in the extinction of humanity:
    P-T-S-D Hyper-vigilance syndrome.
5 And Secret Invasion WAS very Cold War dark and intense, sprinkled with character occasional levity: SONYA FALSWORTH, the Marry Poppins of Cloak and Dagger...butcher shears… pistol...
Lastly, the disappointment and dissatisfaction with Secret Wars seems to stem from the story not being chiefly about Nick Fury. I get that, but its title is Secret Invasion, not Nick Fury, it isn't his Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Incredible Hulk feature, it wasn't just the story of his journey, he was just its protagonist. And the events of Nick and Priscilla's relationship was the heart, undertone and theme of the story. The promise of their hopeful reconcilement holds the same for Humanity and Skrulls.

Thor being a proven ally probably also shields Asgardians from suspicion. I did think it was stupid that the President declared war on the skrulls in the end, considering Talos was among those that saved him (but then again, humans can be pretty stupid).

Interesting that Gi'ah is probably the most powerful single person in the universe at this point - not sure where you can go with that, or if there's a comic analog that she's a reference to. Wandavision is probably the best, though I also REALLY enjoyed Hawkeye (The story was light, smaller scale, and the chemistry between Hailee and Florence is off the scale, they might be my favorite pair-up yet... and I'm biased towards Christmas movies/shows, rofl). This one was a little average for me. I liked the villain and the overall plot sounded awesome, but it needed more episodes IMO, and the finale was WAY too short. I didn't even get comfortable and they were already having the superhero/villain fight, lol.
That said, I am looking forward to more Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman, I think they're a couple of great additions to the MCU, but I'm SUPER sad that Ben Mendelsohn (Talos) won't be back. My favorite part of this conclusion was the radical conservativism of the US developing in the MCU. Definitely not something I want in the real world but what it does is set up Captain America 4 and Thunderbolts very nicely. And, far out theory/ wild dream, It could potentially set up a plot from the current Avengers comic run that would bring back a fan favorite character, introduce a much wanted villain, and create a super team v. super team scenario. I loved when the comics turned the Avengers from a US centric team to an Earth centric one. I think it's important to not let the US be the default good guys. By never objectively looking in towards ourself, we risk toxic patriotism.

A planet where all 6 Infinity Gems were last seen? Hell no.
Granted, I'm sure Thanos and Fury and the Avengers have no idea, but I'm about 99% sure that it's impossible to destroy the Infinity Gems, even by using all 6 Infinity Gems.
The Gems are almost DEFINITELY still on the Garden planet, even if they've perhaps been shrunk to tiny atom size roughly in accordance to what Thanos THINKS he did to them by "reducing them to atoms".
Each Gem is sort of a elemental connection to a fundamental aspect of reality.
Like as long as Time exists....there will probably be a Time Gem.
I don't think anyone but the Abstracts (the true gods), who themselves are the living embodiments of things like Time, Space, Love, Hate, Death, Oblivion, Chaos, Order, etc, would have the ability to destroy the Infinity Gems.
Even not knowing all that, I know if I were Nick Fury I wouldn't send ANYONE to the place where the Infinity Gems were last seen.

Hey, Angela! What a lackluster finale that squandered so many opportunities and foolishly establishes G'iah as the most powerful being in the galaxy!
Gravik must have evacuated his people from the compound or secured them in a bunker that could withstand the nuke. He wasn't about to massacre the Skrull population. The locked-up people he referred to were probably the human prisoners since he thought he was talking with Fury.
The ice spike is a Jotun ability like Loki would have or, perhaps, the Frost Beast.
This is one of Marvel's signal events in the comics with huge battles, double-crosses, character deaths and lots of surprises that impacts the Marvel landscape for several years.
This show felt cheap and small in scope. It started off promisingly and just fizzled out.
The fundamental problem is that the Skrulls were arbitrarily made sympathetic figures way back in "Captain Marvel" which was a terribly bone-headed decision. It's like adapting "The Lord of the Rings" but making the Orcs into good guys. There are noble and kind Skrulls but they are a staple Marvel villain. A seismic shift on that order of magnitude has a ripple effect on many future stories. As audiences were already aware of the Nova Corps, they should have used that interlude between the two finale films to introduce Nova, a space-based hero, by showing the destruction of Xandar as Thanos retrieved the Power Stone in a present-day prologue before flashing back to the past. This would have prevented Carol's back-story from being butchered and the iconic Mar-Vell from being gender-bent. Nova could have rescued Tony and done everything Carol did in "Endgame" without missing a beat. This way, Carol could have waited for her debut when the X-Men were in place and the landmark Marvel event of the Kree-Skrull War could have been adapted as a blockbuster space opera. The Skrulls shouldn't have changed their spots preserving their status as villains. Talos could have deceived Fury and Nova into feeling pity but then betrayed them both costing Nick his eye giving weight to his "Winter Soldier" statement that "the last time he trusted someone, he lost his eye". Nick is scarred, the Tesseract is secured, Nova rejoins the Corps and returns to Earth in the wake of Thanos after being signaled by Fury.
The performances by Ben Mendelsohn, Samuel L. Jackson, Charlayne Woodard, Olivia Colman, Don Cheadle and Kingsley Ben-Adir were phenomenal and sadly wasted.
This was the perfect platform to introduce the Thunderbolts as the answer to the Super-Skrull threat which would have been a tribute to the comic's climactic partnership between heroes and villains in Central Park. Valentina should have taken the killshot like Norman Osborn in the comics leaving Val in charge of the US intelligence apparatus and Fury disgraced. Instead, G'iah suddenly acquires complete command of a multitude of abilities without any time to acclimate and blows a hole in Gravik who was already expert in their usage! SMH.
No explanation of why forested Berhert in "Guardians Vol. 2" wasn't a suitable relocation site. Fury says Skrulls like cold which doesn't track for cold-blooded reptiles but whatever. So, Thanos' garden world is too tropical. Does the planet not have polar regions or tundra regions? Carol's been there in person! Why haven't these folks been moved yet in the seven years since 2018? It just doesn't make any sense.
They killed Maria Hill for nothing. This could have been so much better.
It seems Rhodey was swapped after "Civil War" since he was in a hospital gown or it might have been after "Endgame" because he wasn't using the leg braces in "Falcon and the Winter Soldier". If before "Civil War", he doesn't know Tony is dead! In the comic, the repatriated captives had to cope with the disorientation of lost time and guilt at the actions committed by their doppelgangers. Hank Pym was gone the longest having missed House of M, Civil War, the assassination of Captain America, World War Hulk, Secret Invasion and the death of Janet!
President Ritson declaring all extraterrestrials enemy combatants seems to be laying the groundwork for the Marvel event called "Siege" where the US government assaults Asgard on Earth!
Bit of trivia: Charlayne Woodard played Jackson's lover here but played his mom in "Unbreakable" and "Glass"! Yikes!

The ending felt rush especially when the president literally called for genocide of all skrulls and Nick Fury's response was basically "damn, that's crazy" & dips, it felt like they were just setting up future films instead of just ending a story. Also the writers basically gave the "villain" a good reason why he was angry but because the writers were afraid that they've made the villain have a point they had to make him kill people in order to show he's bad by fridging both Talos & Maria Hill ( which btw Nick Fury should have showed more of a emotional response of losing her because she was his second in command, I'm still upset about that) as well as committing a terrorist attack. I get the message the writers were trying to get across but it just felt poorly handled. The show had a lot of potential but the Secret Invasion story is too big of an event for it to be a 6 episode show. It could have been Marvel's next Endgame but just like Age of Ultron they just wasted it. I liked Gi'ah, Sonya & Talo's interactions with Nick Fury. Love your perspective on this. You're very humorous too. 😂
I've not watched the show myself as I'm really bored of the MCU and your reactions are entertaining enough anyway. 😊

The finale was okay, I guess. Overall, the whole show was maybe a 6/10 for me. Well... 5.5. I love Samuel L. Jackson. I love Olivia Coleman. Emilia Clarke is very good. The final fight between Gravik and Gaia seemed tacked on, and the powers unearned. There just weren't any stakes. I'm surprised Sonya didn't just go ahead and just kill 'Rhodey'. She's typically not one to hesitate. And, it wouldn't have taken an instant for everyone to know he was an imposter.
It was just okay for me. I'm with you in that I will not likely rewatch it.
I think part of my problem is that I'm getting a little tired of the E-MCU. (Extended MCU). It's getting to be a bit much. (Now, I haven't seen Guardians 3 yet. But, I am looking forward to it. You referenced it... please, no spoilers. :) I guess we'll see how it goes.
In the meantime... thank you, as always, for the watch. I'll look forward to whatever you watch next!

I feel like a show about an invasion by shape-shifting aliens should have some more effects on the status quo. Instead, we get nothing.

Can you please react to the DEFINITIVE Marvel series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? While all of the other Marvel shows are each amazing in their own light, they all share one GLARING flaw- they're too short. Wandavision was 9 episodes, Secret Invasion/Loki/Falcon and the Winter Soldier/Ms. Marvel were all 6 episodes, and Daredevil was only 3 Netflix length seasons, Jessica Jones/Luke Cage/Iron Fist were all 2 seasons, and Defenders was only 1 season. Meanwhile Agents of Shield was 7 seasons jam packed with everything you love about these shows- adventure, action, heroes, villains, betrayals, love stories, character growth, twist and turns, and so much more!

There was a lot of stuff in the finale that made no sense. G'iah used Frost Giant and Ghost Powers during the super skrull fight. Neither one of them was in Endgame. Also, what happened to the Extremis power? How is it possible to kill Gravik in the way that she did? Importantly, aren't Asgardians aliens? Bullets won't even wound an Asgardian child, and they get stronger with age. A real-world leader would have thought that through before saying it on the air. The sudden paranoia of the president makes no sense. By the way, when did the humans learn how to tell who is a skrull and who is not? The president said, "we know how to find you..." There was no evidence in the show that this was true. In addition, why would anyone give Gravik the harvest? Was there any guarantee that G'iah was going to get into the super skrull machine with him? Makes very little sense from the perspective of a combatant. Finally, why would Nick Fury leave G'iah to be recruited by Sonia? Would a real spy allow the UK to acquire such a powerful ally at the expense of the US? Absolutely doesn't make sense.

@@StopReadingMyNameOrElse Let me offer you a solution to stop your butt from hurting so much. Stop watching. I understand that shows that don't have a constant barrage of CGI and lame action sequences can't hold your attention, and that's fine. Nobody is holding a gun to your head. Go watch Transformers or Fast and the Furious or whatever.
