Trust me Zeppelin can do ANYTHING!! Jimmy is the best guitarist of all time...and Bonham the best drummer...also Jimmy produced ALL their albums! He and JPJ are geniuses!!
From what I’ve been told, this song has some meaning about Robert Plant and Jimmy Pages trip through the Middle East to Morocco, and there are references to Atlas and the Atlas Mountains. During a part of the trip, Robert and his family were injured in Greece badly. He almost severed his Achilles’ tendon. Achilles, from Greek mythology, was supposedly dipped in to the River Styx to make him strong, but was held by his heel, leaving it weaker. He was killed being shot through his heel. I’m guessing there is some connection. Robert recorded this album, from a wheel chair and crutches. He tells a story that he was on crutches and lost his balance and Jimmy threw his guitar down and caught Robert before he could hit the ground. Robert was also reading William Blake poetry at the time and there are references from that as well. Robert was the lyricist of most of their songs.
The song is about the Plant family car crash in Greece in 1975. Plant severely broke his leg and ankle. His wife nearly died. Use’s the metaphor of Atlas the Greek God who holds the heavens above the earth.
@@stevepringle2295. My understanding, it’s a combination of both stories, Plant & Page were encouraged to take that trip to Morocco. The phrase I turned to you how could we say no, & the fun we would have singing songs etc etc. The drive through the desert, seeing The Atlas Mountains, maybe looked like they were holding up the heavens. Kashmir is about that trip too. Yes some references to his the family accident too, & why for awhile they called it the wheelchair song. Poetic Robert, with his beautiful way with words, not always outright clear to all of us. Robert’s severe injury to his leg, not knowing if he’d even walk again, hence Achilles Last Stand.
For "heavy" Led Zeppelin, check out Dazed and Confused, Communication Breakdown, Immigrant Song, Heartbreaker/Livin', Lovin' Maid (back to back tunes), Bring It on Home, Rock & Roll, and The Wonton Song, for starters.

Doesn't get much harder than "Immigrant Song". Don't fixate on Plant's lyrics, this band is about 4 virtuosic musicians creating songs that play with tempo and sound. His lyrics often contain obscure mythical references and disjointed natural imagery. That said his vocals are legendary and his power meshes beautifully with Zeppelin's powerful instrumentations. Some of their best rockers are "Rock and Roll", "Heartbreaker", and "Black Dog"
@@SalvoG the live versions are always going to be different from the studio versions in terms of improv and energy. Dazed and confused live at msg is like a bunch of songs in one performance.
@@SalvoG There was no auto tune back then so they sounded very much the same live as they did when they recorded. The biggest difference, as you say, is the energy one gets from watching them. Because both Page and Plant liked to improvise during live performances, it's better to listen to both versions of anything you like the sound of. For example, I love "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You" but as much as I like to watch them perform it, my favorite version is still the recorded version.
Should mention Dazed and Confused is almost 30 minutes, and I would say about 20 of them are Jimmy doing basically an improvised solo. You should enjoy either song. The other is more bluesy, but also incredible guitar work.
@@SalvoG Man, for Zeppelin the live vs. studio argument is so inconsistent. Sometimes their live versions are absolutely killer compared to studio and other times not so much. My recommendation for all Zep tunes is to listen to the studio version first regardless of the situation to get a good feel for what the song is supposed to convey. The very, very best Zep recordings are live (in my opinion) , but the live output is really inconsistent. I've heard killer great live versions of Immigrant Song and Over the Hills are Far away as an example, and I've also heard other live versions of those two songs that sound weak both sonically and vocally.
Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eddie V. and Uncle Ted are my top five in no particular order. Ted Nugent is burnt, smokin, fire on stage!! But I've never seen the other four.
I always saw this song as a call to go back out on tour and comparing that to Ancient Greek legends and gods. And Achilles refers to Robert plant having an ankle injury from a car accident at the time. Apparently he was in a wheelchair or on crutches when they recorded this. Lots of really cool lyrics in this one. One of my favourite Zeppelin songs!
Ac dc is more classic rock while led zeppelin is much more varied and experimental. They range from harder rock to acoustic folk music to their own brand of rock/blues inspired stuff to more Middle Eastern inspired stuff.
@@SalvoG Good plan. Certainly, not every song is going to be a favorite but you'll start to get their sound, versatility and genius. Just sit back, relax, soak it in with no worries. Anything you hear that puzzles you, listen again later. Studio versions are the best to pick everything up, but doing a live version now and again is fun because who doesn't like to watch live? :)
When you start w album 1 try and keep in mind they singer and drummer were I think 19 and other two were in early 20s like 23 or something. Many people overlook that because the band is so old, it's unbelievable talent especially when put into perspective of age. Enjoy the ride! Won't be "heavy" but will amazing.
The song is about the travels that Plant and Page went on during tax exile after their 1975 US tour. The title of the song was accurately explained by a previous comment…Plant was in a wheelchair for almost a year due to a car accident and the rough title of the song was “The Wheelchair Song”. That doesn’t sound like a great song title, so it was changed to “Achilles Last Stand” as a sort of ironic title (Achilles weak spot is the back of his ankle…Plant injured his ankle in a car crash and therefore couldn’t stand up (walk), hence “Achilles Last Stand”. As for the song’s lyrics, Plant is using Greek mythology to write a loosely autobiographical song referencing the trips he and Page took after completing their 1975 tour. If you look at lyrics pages for the song online, they all have the lyrics INCORRECTLY written as “slipping off a glancing kiss” which is NOT what Plant sings there. He is actually singing “Swept NEW YORK a glancing kiss, to those who claim they know” after that comes the line “Below the streets that steam and hiss…”. Both of those are referencing the band leaving New York City in February during the 1975 US Tour, where the steam can be seen rising from the manhole covers. “The Devil’s in his hole” references Devil’s Hole, Jersey. Not NEW JERSEY, but the island of Jersey off the coast of France. “The mighty arms of Atlas hold the heavens from the Earth” is referencing the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, etc. So the “meaning” is simply Plant describing his travels during and after Led Zeppelin’s 1975 US Tour.
AC/DC is heavier where as Zeppelin are incredibly diverse and creative. You may like Black Dog, Whole Lotta Love, Rock n Roll and The Immigrant Song, Which the last one I mention you probably heard and didn't know it was them. These songs are just from the top of my head of of a few higher tempo rock ones Zepp did. Hope to see you do some more
This is a cerebral adventure, it’s for the listeners to decide what it means! Notice with Led Zeppelin, it’s like they are right there with you. With other bands there is a separation- with song title, labels, which album, what year it came out- between you & the music!
Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love (Official Music Video). This is the studio version released in 1969 with part of the psychedelic instrumental in the middle edited out. The film footage is from different concerts in the early 70's.
If you're a Heart fan you might recognize that galloping riff. Many Zep fans call "Barracuda" the best Zeppelin song released in 1977 (Zep didn't release any music in 1977) and Ann Wilson admitted in an interview that the music for Barracuda was highly "inspired" by Achilles.
This song was recorded after Robert Plant and his wife were nearly killed in a car accident in August 1975 while vacationing in the Greek island of Rhodes. It tells the story of "sandy lands on holiday", and also about their trip beforehand to the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Plant sustained a shattered ankle in the wreck, and had to record this song and album in a wheelchair after he tripped over some cables in the basement studio in Munich and damaged and severely re-injured his Achilles tendon while still on crutches. This extended his ordeal and recovery. In their last two tours, he barely moved onstage from these injuries. The song takes its title from all that drama.
I’m the one who recommended Achilles Last Stand. With respect, I have a few suggestions: I would recommend using official links when reacting to songs, as they are of the highest audio quality. Fan made videos are usually diminished in quality. Also, lyric videos are distracting, and often contain false lyrics. It’s best to just listen to a song without the distraction of paying attention to the lyrics, as that detracts from the listening experience. Try to just enjoy the music, and not worry so much about song meanings (you can always research that, later). It’s best not to pause songs in the middle of guitar solos. Kudos for keeping your pauses, short, and for only pausing a few times, though. If you have to pause, only do so for a few seconds, as most, otherwise the flow of a given song is completely ruined. Make sure to let songs play until they’re finished. You cut off the last thirty seconds, or so, of this song. Lastly, keep in mind that Led Zeppelin was a band from 1968-1980. Achilles Last Stand was released in 1976, and Stairway To Heaven was released in 1971 (the live version that you reacted to is from 1973). Music wasn’t as “heavy” back then as bands that came along in the ‘80s and ‘90s, such as Metallica and Pantera, but I would argue that Led Zeppelin was heavier than more contemporary hard rock and metal bands, despite not being as loud. Zeppelin were emotionally heavier, and far more sophisticated in how they expressed intensity, as opposed to just be obnoxiously loud for the sake of it. With that said, without a doubt, Led Zeppelin’s heaviest riff would have to be *The Wanton Song.* Check that out. Also, you might really like their live 1972 video performance of *Immigrant Song.* It is *blistering.* God bless.
Hey Mojo! I liked enjoying the first zeppelin song by just listening but I was bothered by the fact I couldn’t get all the lyrics so I decided to try it with them on screen. It probably does take away from the experience though. I definitely try and keep pauses to a minimum to keep the experience as authentic for me and the viewers. Songs will play to the end from now on👍. I love how you point out they express their intensity sophisticatedly, such an interesting point to think on. Wonton song and immigrant song are next!
Very good point about hard rock in the 1970s. I ran across an old copy of Hit Parader's 1978 Year-End issue and their "Top Heavy Metal Bands of 1978" were Led Zeppelin, Heart, Van Halen, and Queen. I'd venture to say that none of those 4 bands would be labeled as heavy metal in 2022. Of those 4, I'd say Van Halen is the hardest, Zep/Heart I'd tie for 2nd, and Queen a way distant 4th. In fact, if my life depended on it I'm not sure I could find anything in Queen's catalogue that would qualify as anything near metal. I'd guess they must have a couple of early heavy tracks I'm not aware of.
To me this song is about going into the war. A battle. Achilles was a demigod soldier and a leader on a battlefield. He died in battle and that's was his last stand. The text sounds like a conversation between two soldiers getting ready for battle and the drums are marching in the background.
They are not heavy metal...they are the precursor to heavy metal...They were there own style...Blues,Rock,Folk,Eclectic...Light & Shades...The greatest...
Robert Plant wrote these lyrics while separated from his family and badly injured. He was suffering from depression and feeling trapped. He wanted to “break the shackles” that held him and wanted to be free. His place of escape, both for real and in his mind, were the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. So stuck in bed, he dreamed of being there..,and of being with his family who were in England while he was stuck in LA. He is using Greek mythology… Achilles…Atlas etc) as metaphor for his story. Brilliant lyrics, IMO. Btw…..there are sites to go to to have lyrics “interpreted”. But for Robert and most songwriters, they make it vague enough that each person can find their own meaning in the lyrics.
By far the most difficult song on guitar the Zepp cover band I played for in the early 80's performed. There are so many guitar overdubs that I just tried to find a common thread through the middle and kept as many guitar highlights in as possible. But man, lose your concentration for a split second while performing this monster and good luck getting back in the groove. This was by far the most challenging Zepp song we covered. The drummer's kick drum calf muscle would be on fire by the end. We put it at the end of a set because what do you follow this beast with? You've just run a marathon.
##### It would help if the lyric sites got it right. This song is about their travels in life and on the road and in particular the 1975 tour of USA and him reflecting if that was going to be his last stand as he had the car accident after.. The correct lyric is " We swept New York a glancing kiss" .... and refers to Zep gigs in the winter of Feb 75 in New York. "To those who claim they know" refers to the media hostile critics, music press. " Beneath the streets that steam and hiss " ...is New York. "The Devils in his hole" refers to the dark undercurrent , negative side of it..drugs, violence etc. " Into the sun, the South and on, at last the birds had flown " is them leaving the cold of New York into warmer climate ....away from the music press, media glare, wives . girlfriends gone home. Hence the next line "shackles of committment fell in pieces on the ground"...it was time to party !!! "Ride the wind" and "tread the air above the din" refers to the noise of fanatical crowds. " So fast the heart should beat, when proud the head with heavy feet" refers to the exhilaration but also the exhaustion of the tour. "Albion " is the old word for England. "sleeping now to rise again" is referring to when tour is over they can return to normal life at home in Albion /England. .
We're Gonna Groove, Walter's Walk, and Wearing and Tearing on Coda are pretty hard. Coda was a compilation of unreleased material after Bonham passed away. Probably the hardest Zeppelin ever went. They were all from various times throughout their career they just never made it onto any albums.
For hard/faster Zep, try: Communication Breakdown, Wearing and Tearing, Trampled Underfoot, Nobody's Fault But Mine, Wanton Song, The Song Remains The Same, We're Gonna Groove. Now that you're tracking them chronologically, you'll get there.
Well, you had a handul of questions in your video. I've attempted to answer the ones I remember... My initial take is that it doesn't seem to me like you'll end up as a Zeppelin fan. Some people just like it heavy and based on your response, it seems like you may be one to like it heavy. Led Zeppelin is the most diverse rock band of all time. They have a style that is unlike any other group and they can pretty much play any thing from hard rock to acoustic folk to raggae and anything in between. Musically, they are beyond all other bands but if you're looking for heavy, you'll probably need to find it elsewhere. There is a list of classic rock bands that are freaking awesome - ACDC, Black Sabbath, Rush, Pink Floyd. All are some of my personal favorites but Zeppelin is just at a different level to me. Their music takes people to different places and its always a cool experience. You could try listening to The Rover, The Wanton Song but they still may not be the heavy sound you want to hear. As far as classic rock bands, I'm not sure you'll find much in the heavy area with exception to some Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. They are a great bands with lots of great sounds and are known to be heavier than Zeppelin. I personally like Black Sabbath more than Iron Maiden but you could certainly check out either of them. Jimmy Page is the guitarist for Zeppelin and many have him ranked as the greatest of all time. I have him and Jimi Hendrix on my Mt Rushmore with a long list of greats just below. As far as ACDC... They are a fun - rocker - hard riff band with a lot of great songs. I wouldn't consider them heavy but their sound may come off as heavier than Zeppelin as their lead guitarist was a hard chord master. One of my favorite bands, especially their music from 1980 and earlier. You'd probably like Pantera, Tool, System of a Down. They definitely have some heavy stuff. Another great heavy group with a bit of rap sounding stuff mixed in is Rage Against the Machine. I listen to them on the commute to work and by the time I get to work, I'm ready to punch someone in the face... It's a lot of energy.
First of all thank you for this amazing response. It’s not that I don’t like their music, I just think it has to grow on me. I can recognize and appreciate the quality of it already. So far the last two songs have been quite the journey, Led Zeppelin really pours everything into each song I’ve noticed. I appreciate it. I’ve heard good things about Black Sabbath and I think I’ll be doing a video on them soon. Suggestions for Black Sabbath?
@@SalvoG If you do appreciate music - especially music that you can "feel", you grow to love Led Zep. Black Sabbath - Fairies Wear Boots and War Pigs... Awesome songs. My personal recommendations for Zeppelin. Dazed and Confused Live from MSG 1973. Actually, there are a handful from that same show. No Quarter is another one. These aren't necessarily heavy songs but man its just a display of insane talent and incredible musicians playing together to make some amazing music. From the studio, Kashmir, In My Time of Dying, Since I've been lovin you. You may need to listen to In My Time of Dying more than once as it grows on you. It's now one of my all time favorite songs. There are live versions of those same songs that are really unbelieveable but I would suggest to try the studion ones first as the emotion grabs you. Enjoy the journey. Not the band Journey - they suck...
@@joev5546 LOL…..Agree with everything except Journey doesn’t suck. They’re just 80’s power ballads…….done REALLY well by one of the best vocalists ever. Just not your style.
There are many great hard rock bands out there like AC/ DC. 30 years from now you will prolly be long ago tired of them all, and still trying to figure out what the top 5 Led Zeppelin songs are!!
This is the longest song that they ever recorded. There are very excellent live versions of it to be found on UA-cam, also. Seattle 79(?) is very powerful. Btw, the song is about the Trojan War, 1300 BC, between the Hellenes and the Trojans, as recounted in Homer's Iliad.
This is the longest song they made? Makes sense, it’s pretty damn long! Seattle? I’ll be sure to check it out. Wow so they wrote song about some pretty old and historical times
Best well know guitarists? In no particular order (those you would see at the top of most lists): Jimmy Page, Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, David Gilmour, Eddie Van Halen, and probably Clapton or Jeff Beck (Prince maybe?). Lesser know: Alex Lifeson, Eric Johnson, Al DiMeola, John McLauglin, Mark Knopfler, Randy Rhoads, Tom Morello, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, John Frusciante, Santana, Billy Gibbons, Lindsey Buckingham, Steve Howe, and probably many other I can't think of. I personally don't listen to some of the people I mentioned but they have my respect because I play and can recolonize raw talent when I see it.
It’s Mighty arms of Atlas. A phrase with a double meaning. Refers to the Atlas Mountains, but also to the Greek god Atlas, who in mythology physically held the earth on his shoulders.
@@SalvoG it’s a good song. One of the few singles they released. I love the flip side “Hey Hey, What Can I Do?” They wrote it when they were in Iceland, in Reykjavik. The civil servants went on strike, so they thought they were going to have to cancel. The University let them use a concert hall. From what Robert said they had a great concert. He said it was about that trip. They were in the land of ice and snow.
Zep's genre is considered "hard rock/heavy blues", but they played a variety of styles, drawing from such influences as jazz, Motown, funk, reggae, folk, Indian, Moroccan, and others. They aren't considered "Heavy Metal" but their hard rock sounds were extrapolated into Metal, so I guess they'd be more like a grandfather to Metal. This song was about a trip singer Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page took to Morocco. Before recording this album, Robert had been in a car accident in Rhodes where he suffered many injuries including a broken leg and was even thought he might not be able to walk again unassisted, so, yes, he was recording these vocals from a wheelchair. Achilles' only weakness was his heel so the title is a little nod to Robert's injuries. There are several examples of poetic descriptions, for example, the "mighty arms of Atlas" - in Greek mythology, Atlas holds the world stable on his shoulders but it is also a name of a mountain range that is located across parts of Morocco, Libya, and Tunisia. The term "Albion" is a poetic name for England. I don't know what styles of music you're into but Zep's music is known for its dynamics, rock solid instrumentation, and a rhythm section that is second to none.
Great guitarists (in no particular order): Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Lifeson, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Al Di Meola, and John McLaughlin.
Great poetry is rarely “on the nose”. I was an 80s kid and the lyrics were over all, much more dumbed down thanks to MTV. It took me quite a while to get my mind around the lyrics of artists like Zep, Yes, Jethro Tull, Simon and Garfunkel etc. You’re doing just fine
Reliving the car crash that put Plant in a wheelchair for a year. H8gh reving...Stick~shift ....tight bends ABS... Flying through the air.......PAIN ! Achillies was half god who beleaved himself 8nvincable but was wrong.
What defines the greatest guitarist? The most notes per second, playing it with your fingers teeth or toes, one who makes the weirdest sounds? I think it’s the notes that are played and how they are played, and you never get tired of it after 50 years! Jimmy Page!!!
This album came out in 76. What's "harder" Rock ? I wouldn't know because I get all the Rocking from what I grew up with in the 70s. Maybe you're into Heavy Metal Rock like METALLICA or SLAYER ? there's nothing for me to groove on in that category.
This is proto power metal! This song was recorded after Robert plants terrible auto accident! He recorded this album in a wheelchair and crutches! That's how they came up with the title Achilles last stand! And this is the first song that had the galloping which iron maiden made their signature sound! And yes in my opinion Jimmy Page is the best guitarist! He changed music after Zeppelin came on the scene this music would eventually turn into heavy metal!
@@SalvoG Led Zeppelin is the greatest band ever, with the greatest guitar player ever. However, in order to fully understand much of their music, you need to be a little familiar with Greek mythology, Viking mythology, have read Lord of the Rings (seeing the movies don't count, not enough detail) and Beowulf, and know a little bit about Aleister Crowley and pagan occult practices. You also need to love the Blues. I mean the music and performances speak for themselves, but it goes a lot deeper than that. This is why many people don't understand a lot of their music, or at least the lyrics. Check out every live performance you can to see the pure genius. 😎
@@Bluewizard7131 very well said! I am 65. I studied Greek myths in 8th grade, studied Norse sagas some then and later (they are much more accessible now) and read LOTR high school.I wonder if they don’t teach the stuff in school anymore. I also had my first Tarot card set in 10th grade and studied more on the subject as an adult. I am an old folky and love the combination of folk rock and mysticism. That is why I am also a huge Jethro Tull fan. Led Zeppelin, Tull, and others are what I call Intellectual Rock.
Best guitarist? Almost as subjective as what is the best pop song of all time. Jimmy Page usually isn't in the top 5. There is definitely a category where he is the best, but I'm not sure what to call it. He's probably the best producer of composing great infectious riffs and layering his mixes that produces his 'guitar army' sound. My God!! He's playing all of the guitars in these songs, sometimes 5 or 6 deep, maybe more. If you want to stick to the rock genre, most lists will put Jimi Hendrix at the top of the list. Stevie Ray Vaughn frequently gets the top billing. in some fans eyes and, yes, he is fantastic....but is he better than Jimi? Eric Clapton? David Gilmour, who has arguably played the greatest solo of all time on 'Comfortably Numb'? What about Eddie Van Halen? So on and so on. What can be absolutely said is that no one has had the seemingly umbilical-like relationship with a guitar like Jimi did. He got things out of a guitar, jaw-dropping things. His 'Star Spangled Banner' rendition where he produces the sounds of the Vietnam War is astounding and actually a bit frightening. I've never heard a guitar scream before. When he was on no one could touch him. As a guitarist, myself, I choose Jimi. Top 5 LZ songs? Ha hah hah hah haaaa. Whichever 5 you feel like playing that day. AC/DC are my favorite concert band. They are not Led Zep in style. They are not experimental They do not stray from solid hard rock. There is a classic story where an interviewer asked guitarist Angus Young why they've chosen to make 14 albums of songs that all sound alike. 'Nonsense!' says Angus, 'It's 15'. Yes, their songs sound alike. Same instruments, same guitar tones, same attitudes, basic driving riffs...and yet, they continue to produce good records and do massive tours at their age (they've been around since the mid 70s) I've seen them several times before and I will see them again if they come around. Just good old rock every time. Probably the most consistent band of all time. RIP Bon and Mal!
Dude dont cut a song off. Gotta show more respect for the music than that friend. Thats a cool little outro. Zeppelin is definitely superior than AC DC from an ability and complexity standpoint but theres plenty of people that prefer a simple hard sound ac dc brings. Ac dc sounds bigger than they are because they use more marshall amplifiers as part of thier sound. But from a versatility standpoint zeppelin is better, from a live performance perspective zeppelin is better, for being one of the founders of metal they deserve a higher recognition. Ac dc does have a unique sound and crowd involvement though ill give them that ,but if youve seen one show youve seen them all. Not the case with zeppelin. People can like who they like, and they can like both or neither but in terms of proficiency and overall contribution to music i think zeppelin is the clear front runner
JPJ's prowess as a drummer is prevalent in this classic piece. There's no wonder his nick name was "Bonzo" I always liked the heady lyrics Robert Plant came up with, so much better than the over used subjects sex, drugs and rock n roll. Jimi Hendrix's guitar playing was innovative, but a little over rated, Page blows Hendrix away. AC/DC and Zeppelin are two completely different bands with two completely different styles and sounds.. No way to compare them.
You didn't even finish the song, man, your content is very cool but your presentation needs work including all the talking over the music. If you're going to disrespect the music this way I just cant hang.
Trust me Zeppelin can do ANYTHING!! Jimmy is the best guitarist of all time...and Bonham the best drummer...also Jimmy produced ALL their albums! He and JPJ are geniuses!!
So far it doesn’t seem like they cut any corners…each song has sooo many details. I’ll have to keep listening to them just to appreciate them further.

AC/DC makes good solid rock music. Led Zeppelin make Art.
its not that fast but it IS hard. no other drummer could do this, sooooo much power and subtlety too
bonham is an absolute MONSTER!
he is like a machine gun.
These guys seem like way ahead of their time, for this time period they made music. I wish I could fully appreciate it
Plus his Astor martin fell on him crushed his ribs
The best ever, start with album number 1 and work your way through every iteration of the genius. The best ever.
At this point I plan to!
@@jmar7631 good advice on a novice listener!
Brilliant song
But if you are learning led zepplin, it's in the advanced class.
The Mount Rushmore of rock guitarists:
Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Eric Clapton
Ive never heard hendrix or clapton.
Hope to see you do some more
Will be doing more very soon thanks!!
Biggest band in the world. even before anyone had ever heard of them.
FANTASTIC track!!
With respect, I have a few suggestions:
I would recommend using official links when reacting to songs, as they are of the highest audio quality.
Also, you might really like their live 1972 video performance of *Immigrant Song.* It is *blistering.*
God bless.
Exactly. The ambiguity of LZ lyrics is part of what makes their music timeless.
Dazed and Confused..... hard ..hard
Thanks! Adding it to the list :)
It also sounds to me like a song about their experiences of touring. Some people think it sounds like riding into battle.
"sleeping now to rise again" is referring to when tour is over they can return to normal life at home in Albion /England. .
wow, thank you for that extensive break down. Much appreciated.
Try their songs, Kashmir, Dazed and Confused, Whole Lotta Love, Since I've been loving you, and The Lemon song. Try these out.
I will probably be doing a video for all of these thanks!
The lyrics are poetic.
This song makes references and alludes to the fall and rise again of an empire …Albion
Plant was such a great lyricist. He doesn’t get enough credit for his writing. ✌️
One of, if not my favorite.
Mmm afraid it’s not Led Zeppelins longest song.....In my time of dying 11.08, carouselambra equals it 10.32🎸😎
@@SalvoG no, official vid from Knebworth 1979 is THE live version.
This song has Salvo G scratching his head! 🤣🤣🤣
I think this song is about their touring experiences.
this is 1 of my favourite jimmy page solo, it just takes you away to somewhere else
That guitar solo toward the middle was amazing, I need more of that!!!
@@SalvoG there's plenty more of that with Jimmy lol especially live
Plant is writing about his trips to the Atlas Mountains in Morocco (The nights arms of Atlas). They separate the heavens from the earth.
Are alot of their songs based on travels?
@@SalvoG There are a few. “Going to California”, “Kashmir”, “Misty Mountain Hop”, are some that come to mind.
It’s Mighty arms of Atlas. A phrase with a double meaning. Refers to the Atlas Mountains, but also to the Greek god Atlas, who in mythology physically held the earth on his shoulders.
Try “The Wanton Song”, or Heartbreaker”. Both heavier.
what about the immigrant song?
@@SalvoG it’s a good song. One of the few singles they released. I love the flip side “Hey Hey, What Can I Do?” They wrote it when they were in Iceland, in Reykjavik. The civil servants went on strike, so they thought they were going to have to cancel. The University let them use a concert hall. From what Robert said they had a great concert. He said it was about that trip. They were in the land of ice and snow.
If you like a harder sound I highly recommend you check out the Van Halen 1 album
I can't wait to react to some Val Halen!
Jimmy's guitar army.
Wow thank you for this breakdown. What a crazy story! I can definitely appreciate the RANGE from this band so far, that is for sure.
@@SalvoG listen to Henrietta. Bushes a Zep expert. I’m not exaggerating.
Check out grand funk railroad. Inside looking out live 1969🤘
To many best guitar players. Totally dif styles. My fave would be page. Stevie ray vaughn and my man Angus young

What criteria?
If you have several criteria
Jimmy Page
Creative, flexible, riffs, etc etc
Whats your top 3?
Iron maiden,the trooper! Live!
Led zep,whole Lotta love!
Pantera,domination!
Adding these to the list!!
dude dont cut it off short, listen to all of the tracks
I won’t make that mistake again! Every little bit counts with this band it seems
You can look up the meaning of the lyrics I think
I’m going to have to, maybe before listening to each song
Check out hendrix 3rd stone from the sun
The Island they were stranded on took an experienced helicopter pilot that can navigate over open water. You don't trust that to a novice pilot
Black Dog might be a little harder rock for you. Shorter song too. Or Communication Breakdown.
The songs about MYTHOLOGY
Immigrant Song is the fastest and heaviest sound
Check it out
Love your honesty
This one keeps getting suggested! I'll do it next. Don't forget to check it out :)
You're not familiar with classic Greek mythology? 🙂
No not particularly haha
You should have let the song play out. Try Communication Breakdown. It's a hard driving sound rather like punk before punk was a thing.
Watch the live 1979 Knebworth version...crazy good...also Kashmir from that same show!!

Don't know why you would pause w/ a few seconds left
AC/DC is more straight ahead hard-rock. Led Zeppelin is much more adventurous and diverse.
I’m starting to learn that for sure
IMO Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix are tied as the best guitarists
Rory gallagher
Lol Harder? , Immigrant Song, Whole Lotta Love, Kashmir,
Immigrant song is next!
Really? Hmmm....
JPJ's prowess as a drummer is prevalent in this classic piece.
There's no wonder his nick name was "Bonzo"
I always liked the heady lyrics Robert Plant came up with, so much better than the over used subjects sex, drugs and rock n roll.
Jimi Hendrix's guitar playing was innovative, but a little over rated, Page blows Hendrix away.
AC/DC and Zeppelin are two completely different bands with two completely different styles and sounds.. No way to compare them.
if you take some drugs i think youll understand better
Oh my gosh 😂
You didn't even finish the song, man, your content is very cool but your presentation needs work including all the talking over the music. If you're going to disrespect the music this way I just cant hang.

@@SalvoG Fair enough. It’s just that the outro at the end of Achilles is one of my favorite parts of the song.
