I love these repair video u help me save alot of money on simple repair. I need a oil change soon I'm thinking about trying that. I did my apu unit and service my espar d-2 heater. this my first year as owner operator learning so much.
I’m not a certified mechanic. Oh you’re not?? 😂 It’ll pop out Wrong way (lefty loosey) Bolts are different lengths Holy hell! I’m going to watch every video now!! Thanks pal 👍🏼
Great video. The Monroe's may have a replacement warranty check your receipt. Wipe it down then take it in for a new one. Put some anti- seize compound on those bolts it'll help with corroded, and change out is easier. Thanks for putting the video out.
A few tips to make life easier in the future. 1. Use a good long handle box wrench on the bolt. It will save your arm and reduce flex in the impact, which will break the bolt loose faster. 2. During reassembly put some anti seize compound on the non threaded part of the bolt only. These bolts seize up a lot in the shock, but you don’t want anti seize on the threads since excess vibration could loosen the nut. 3. Bolts this size can take up to 400 ft lbs of torque without damage. So unless you want to use a torque wrench and tighten them to 375 just use a decent 3/4 gun and don’t let the gun beat on it all day. You really want torque close to what it should be though to help vibration. Anyway good job and doing things yourself is how you learn.
Matt Moschkau I am no mechanic, but I think 400 pounds looks like too much for that bolt. 400 is close to the torque spec for wheels. Also, not all types of bolts even of that size can handle too much torque. This can cause the bolt to break when installing or removing.
The Reviewer Freightliner and other manufactures post service bulletins that includes torque specs on bolts. Suspension components vary from 350 to 550 ft lbs based on application and manufacture. Consult your trucks service bulletin for exact torque. There is also a handy guide available online that lists bolts torque rating by size and grade of bolt. These particular bolts will have no problem going well over 400 ft lbs.
How about the guy doing the shocks, using a bit of copper grease on the bolts when reinstalling, makes things a whole lot easier when replacing in the future.
I have a question. How do I know the part number for my Frtner Cascadia 2015? I need to change steering and later drives. Which one (part number) did you use for your truck? Thanks a lot.
the shock itself has the#,if not when you go to the freightliner parts department just give them the vin# of your truck, they will give you what you need for your truck just with the vin#,but the shocks themselves have them on the very buttom of the shock, good luck and thanks for tunning in
Andrey B He might very well be right. Some parts that were originally installed on the truck are not sold at Freightliners anymore. Who knows why they do that. Freightliners also seem to rarely carry two brands of the same part. They typically just carry one type. One would have to go to another Freighliner to get a different brand.
i did notice that when you took the old shock off that the spacer on the bottom was on the tire side but when you put the new shock on the spacer was to the frame sides am curious if there is a reason for that or if you didn't notice.on my 07 century if i put the spacer to the tire side the shock is crooked.good video man keep up the good work.
Basically the old shock was on the wrong way but he put the new shock on the right way and i wonder if he noticed that. The shock Jingle bell because it was on the wrong way.
Jason Martin Monroe has a video where they say 200k to 250k. I have also read online that some fleets change them when they get a new set of tires. Monroe also says to inspect the shocks every 50k miles by compressing and extending the shock. It should feel smooth with no stops and have some resistance. Gas shocks should rise up when compressed.
@@thereviewer4173 I probably had my Monroe drive shocks on for a little over a year and a half. I was trying to change them today, but I think the bolt are all seized up. But my steers I know I have to change them once a year. My first set of OEM shocks had about 450,000 mi on them. After that I had OEM shocks put on whenever I changed tires. except for when I had the Michelin XDN2's and I had to change them every two years.
For the guy who said you shouldn’t make vid, I say, y don’t he make one to add some encouragement, rather criticize and discourage u for at lease trying to help others.
humpty Hydraulic shocks don’t seem to be common in big trucks, or at least with Freightliner. Oil and gas shocks appear to be the norm. Gas shocks also appear to be gaining some popularity because they supposedly ride smoother than oil shocks. The downside is their lifespan is shorter.
Hey vic..thanks for showing how easy these jobs can be done...originals on mine are monroes i just bought 4 originals..u really recommend the gabriels?..they were only like 4 bucks more...lol
Lololol. Very cringe worthy video bro lololol!!! Has to be the whole camera in your face and having to narrate while doing a task. Can be difficult sometimes.

Great video
....... " I wing it "....... Yes you do Bro !
The shock rattle all that noise because it was on the wrong way

All these haters on here most of them don't have the balls to make a video, but love to criticize. This video gave me enough info to get job done.

There's a difference between a bolt and a screw.
Love your vids my broooo!
thanks for tunning in
I was asking brother I always thought the Monroe was better. but now u said the oil base is better made me feel good cause that's what I bought.
shyeem63 the one on this video is gas.look at what happens to gas.they suck.you did right oil base is the best
I heard all shocks are oil and gas
You need tires on there.

What brand of shock You recoment me for My 2012 cascadia beside the original?
I got my from peterbiult , the brand is Packard, little expensive but they are good.
What's a good oil base shocks?
Thanks for your helpful videos!
originals or gabriels
DaR3ALoo bb
Only original Freightliner are good. Gabriel's will leak.
Good video my friend
I only buy original Freightliner Original shocks. They are oil and never had issues with them. Don't use Monroe or Gabriel. Both are cheap quality.
you are right about that gabriels are cheap as well, but thats all i can afford lol thanks for tunning in
Gabriel is freightliners OE supplier.
Matt Moschkau bull shit!! You don't even know.

Great video I’m definitely going to be hitting u up I’m getting ready to replace my shocks
Have you switched over to the oil shocks yet
yes.thanks for tunning in
Vic Med. How many miles should you be able to get out of them??
as far as miles i couldnt tell you,all i do is keep my eye open for when they start to leak oil,

shyeem63 I know I said that but right now I'm broke.next month ill replace ten of them with the oil base one's.thanks for watching
Is gabriel good?
Why do you prefer the oil shocks compared to the gas ones? .... Thanks for your vids
joe dapro oil leaks from the shock when it needs to be replace.gas shocks don't.
@@vicmed6088 gas shocks do have oil in them they're just charged with gas good video thanks for helping the little guys like me

Do you have a 3/4 impact wrench?
Zero Safety !
Vic med need a tv show cuz i have a detroit 60 series wit all kinda problems
you will be good ,just work on it little by little, best of luck
Thanks Vic
That Loco I appreciate the lesson keep it up for locos😎😎✌️
Is that yard in Fontana?
yes it is
Thanks bro every little bit helps largely, good vid
Shouldn't you use a hydraulic shock not a gas shock
i think its just what works for the person driving the truck,i like oil shocks, but hydraulic shocks are cool to,just never used them
humpty
Hydraulic shocks don’t seem to be common in big trucks, or at least with Freightliner. Oil and gas shocks appear to be the norm. Gas shocks also appear to be gaining some popularity because they supposedly ride smoother than oil shocks. The downside is their lifespan is shorter.
What size is the nut for the shock?
i couldnt tell you, thanks for tunning in
Hey Vic thanks for the video again. Are you using air hose connected to air tank from your truck or do you have separate air tank?
Flip Flippers I'm using my air compressor.
if we hooked up our air gun to the trailer air supply line, do you think it can undo the bolts on the shock's?
Flip Flippers good question I've never tried it.
I was thinking about cutting the end that air up the tires and put a female air connecter
Flip Flippers I see what you mean.they sell us hoses that connect to the glad hands to air up your tires.
Hey vic..thanks for showing how easy these jobs can be done...originals on mine are monroes i just bought 4 originals..u really recommend the gabriels?..they were only like 4 bucks more...lol
