mine did the same. i replaced the head to "upgraded version" from makita and now that new head failed allso. there is some serious desing problem and even they createt new desing of it, it still wont work or last more than year.
Mine just stripped out yesterday. I did not abuse it. Used it 3 or 4 times. Not a robust tool at all. Junk design. I'll try to get a warranty repair at no cost.

Same happened with mine after about 3 times usage. I like makita but this is an absolute junk.
