As one of those magical beings who does book crafts my suggestions for getting books without feeling too bad about destroying them are to ask your local library/used book store if they could set aside damaged books for you. That way your giving a new life to a book that was destined to be thrown away. Also, any old encyclopedias/dictionarys/textbooks are great for this because they often times can not be donated.

we did book things like this at school one time. and we printed out pages of random story books (most of them were in latin) so that we didn’t commit book murder.

The book cut-ins at 9:55 are impressive enough to forgive the book murder, but the one earlier in the video where the books are painted and glued together just to have a three word message is the cringiest. Imagine destroying hundreds of words to make three.

I’m one of those who takes books and takes them apart and rips up pages. But, I always get the books from a charity shop (uk thrift store) or the pound shop, so they’re usually books that have had a life beforehand, or will never be read, which I think is the saddest thing for a book to never tell it’s story. You can also get books from the library, ones that they are just trying to get rid of. Again, sad. At first I really struggled with tearing up a book, but if you look at it as, it’s not the only copy of this story, it’s going on to live a life it couldn’t imagine, as works of art in a completely different way. And surely it’s better they are used than burnt to death, or worse, never even picked up and opened. I would never go and buy a brand new book for the purposes of dismantling it, that’s pointless and costly, but to reuse and repurpose older ones is great 😄 Book pages are beautiful and lovely to work with 😊

I can understand why he feels this way about those pieces, but I don't personally have a problem with people cutting apart books to make art. If people have these books but aren't going to read then why not give them a second life instead have to have them collect dust on a shelf. I will admit though some of those crafts were so cheugy that they made me cringe a little too much.

I have an idea: paint the pumpkin so it just looks like you ruined a book for it. It'd take sooo much longer but at least your books will be fine. (Or print the pages... There's that too...) And I agree about the vase. Why put a flower on a flower vase? That with flowers in the vase is going to look strange. It'd drive me nuts. I love the book cut in things, especially the treehouse one. I don't like the books on the wall, reading them sounds difficult.

I was hoping that you would see a book stand in this. I don't know what else to call it. What it is is an open book on a stand (think attached to a pole attached to some kind of support). The book is kind of glued to stay where it is as well as is the pages to stay down where it is. And on it it has been painted so you can't see the text and there you can stick plants down, write down quotes, do drawings, scatter it with jewels. Whatever you want, and it comes out looking really stunning. My mum has done this and has it in a glass cabinet herself. And yes, I would like one too.
