    Professor Xavier had a twin brother. But before they were born his mind was so strong that he kinda absorbed his twin leaving him in a coma. So right before Jean killed him he transferred his mind into his brother's body. Supposedly. Also this is my favorite xmen movie.

    Just warning you, Seb - the continuity can get kinda mixed up in subsequent films, as how certain things happened and when become inconsistent. Don't expect the same level of adherence to continuity that the MCU has. Though they try to clean up some of the inconsistencies in X-Men: Days Of Future Past, there are still details that don't quite add up. It's best not to get too hung up on them from movie to movie.

    • @darkphoenx3930
      @darkphoenx3930 2 роки тому +4

      There’s not really continuity issues because the revised timeline is completely separate to the original, meaning the prequel movies have their own timeline and don’t have to completely align with the first trilogy.

    • @michaelklaus
      @michaelklaus 2 роки тому

      @@darkphoenx3930 Considering your username you should know that your statement does not add up as we see the "revised" Jean unleash the Phoenix Force against Apocalypse and she only later meets up with the Force in the next movie.
      I know the comics did do a similar thing with them being retconned to have mentally contacted long before they physically met but Dark Phoenix should have picked up on this conundrum.

    • @darkphoenx3930
      @darkphoenx3930 2 роки тому +1

      @@michaelklaus no my statement does add up. Regardless of whether Jean hosts the Phoenix or not, I stated that the two timelines are completely separate, which they are. There may be similarities between the two timelines but they are two different time branches, so have little need to be 100% tided down by the OG trilogy
      Also, the Phoenix Force used to be an amorphous entity with no shape. It took on the raptor form later on.
      Jeans powers have previously manifested as a Phoenix raptor on the Astral Plane (with Prof X). There are many different storylines that point towards Jean either being born with a fragment of the Phoenix force inside her, to Jean being able to tap into the cosmic force from a distance (like in the comics). It’s not that crazy to think this was applied in Apocalypse, and that either Jean is 1. Born with a part of the Phoenix force inside her. 2. Is able to tap into the Phoenix Force or 3. The Phoenix Raptor is the shape that Jeans powers manifest, and the Cosmic entity only takes on this form once it’s interacted with Jean (which is hinted at in Dark Phoenix)

    It’s not bad nor the worst of the franchise and it has some good parts (that tragic scene with Angel in the bathroom , Kelsey Grammer’s Hank McCoy, Logan and Rogue’s scene before she leaves). It just felt like there was a noticeable dip in quality and it was trying to do way too much with too many characters and their subplots. As a result it felt like a let down especially as an adaptation of The Dark Phoenix Saga, one of the most important X-Men storylines

    • @darkphoenx3930
      @darkphoenx3930 2 роки тому +1

      @Dayspring nah I cannot agree. Although it had so many things wrong with it, we know there was outside interference with the way the FOX merger was happening, part 2 being written off and the entire third act changed. Regardless of that, the Hans Zimmer score was amazing, I liked the VFX, and the space and train scene were great. It was never meant to be a huge summer blockbuster, competing with other huge hits, it was intended as a small autumn movie telling an origin story in parts. It’s just a shame how it ended up in the end.
      However (after much waffling) the title of worst x-men movie has to go to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and then New Mutants. Nothing is worse than those two

    Many people hated this movie because they butchered the Phoenix Saga. But as usual for this time, the female characters' stories and powers (as you mentioned with Storm, also) were diminished to undervalued plot points.

    • @macc.1132
      @macc.1132 2 роки тому +7

      Yeah. The X-Men are known to have most of Marvel's most popular female superheroes. Storm, Rogue, Jean, Kitty, Psylocke, Emma Frost, Jubilee, and many more. Fox made the mistake of diminishing their roles in favor of Wolverine / Professor X / Magneto. Even after the reset of this franchise, with First Class, Fox leaned into the Charles and Erik dynamic. They bring back Mystique, completely recharacterized (she's a premier villain in the comics most of the time, not to be messed with) to accommodate Jennifer Lawrence's likeability. Jennifer's a great actress and could have benefitted from playing a scheming villain, in my opinion, rather than some wishy washy conflicted hero, unable to decide between Charles or Erik's philosophy.
      Hopefully now that Disney has the franchise, they'll elevate the ladies. Storm was so popular at one point, when Marvel and DC did a crossover event, pitting hero against hero, and Ororo took out Wonder Woman in her issue (they were giving the fans what they wanted). Storm lead the X-Men during their heyday and no one had a problem with it, even Cyclops fans, because the transition of leadership was so well handled. Halle Berry had almost nothing to work with because you know the men writing the film were only interested in writing about the guys, and resorted to sticking the women in love triangles (Jean, Rogue, Kitty, and Mystique are all in a dumb triangle).

      I hope Marvel does her justice. In the books, she used to be one of Marvel's most popular heroes, only to be a background character in the films. I'm not sure why Fox decided to make Professor X a main character, rather than the behind-the-scenes mentor he usually is in the books. Why they felt the need to include Magneto every time out also puzzles me? It'd be like having Lex Luthor in all the Superman films, or the Joker in all the Batman films. They struck gold with casting McKellen and Fassbender in the role and played to the actor's popularity rather than staying true to the character.
      But yeah, popular heroes like Storm and Rogue were downplayed and Wolverine / Professor X / Magneto amped, to the detriment of the series. Jean was just a love-interest for Wolverine.

  • @lordmortarius538

    That move where Colossus throws Wolverine is known as the "Fastball Special" in the comics :D
    Warren Worthington III is known as Angel in the comics, and he was actually one of the founding members of the X-Men there.
    I love that they had Multiple Man in this too, such a clever use for him in decoying Magneto's camp lol
    The boy is called Leech, and he unconsciously projects an energy field around himself that disables the mutant X-gene in others.
    THAT big robot head Wolverine sliced off in the Danger Room at the beginning is a Sentinel; a mutant-hunting robot developed by anti-mutant elements in the government that can adapt to the powers used against them. They were very nearly unstoppable in the comics.
    In the comics the Phoenix Force is a cosmic entity that represents the destruction and rebirth of the entire Universe, and has the power to do so. The Phoenix joined with Jean Grey after it felt her mind transcend the physical realm and felt a kinship with her.
    This film came out during a time when "coming out" was one of those very contentious occurrences among those lesser evolved humans who think being LGBT is a 'sin' or whatever, so the allegory between the "Cure" and the Mutants was very fitting for the time. There's nothing TO cure, as Storm so perfectly puts it. There's nothing wrong with you.

    Juggernaut is done wrong in this movie. He isn’t even a mutant in the comics. He is Xavier’s step brother. His powers are magical. The only way to stop him is to get his helmet off and attack his mind with psychic attacks

    This film was such a huge problem to complete.
    Schedule conflicts (Anna Paquin had like only 5 days to film so her role was dramatically reduced…. James Marsden committed to Superman Return so his role was cut super short), director Bryan Singer left & took original screenwriters, the composer, and star James Marsden with for Superman Returns (later Bryan was accused of sexual misconduct) so new director had to come in to finish the troubled movie.
    On the whole it was an ok movie considering.
    Filmed in Vancouver too. ♥️

    AVI ARAD worked on the first movies as executive producer
    But for the 3rd movie, he decided to step in as the main producer
    That's why we got a movie done by a director with no passion, and a limited story overstuffed with characters, just so he could sell more toys

    You'll have to watch the entire X-Men/Wolverine series, but that technically includes also Deadpool too, they changed a lot of the females powers from the comics (less powerful), Wolverine became his own character & stole the show, seeing as he's the only one who got spin off movies.
    Russell Crowe was asked to play Wolverine originally, but turned it down because he didn't want to get typecast as 'Wolvie' (Gladiator & Wolverine) as he called it.

    I tried for so many years post 2006 to like this but the dull dialogue, writing and narration and the bad editing along with the change in director and score didn’t work for me; X-men wise the great films for me are Logan,The Wolverine, X2, XM DOFP, the Deadpool Series, and parts of Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix are my faves. I like Dark P more than TLS, score and visuals wise it’s more toned down Dark Phoenix Saga. For me it’s not a comic book issue per say against TLS, just the more movie related elements and the drastic changes in tone and style from X1/X2 to this. TLS was hastily rushed due to Dir. B Singer stepping down to do Superman Returns, the Fox studio pushed for a sequel that he (Singer) would have made if they had waited a year. Singer’s best is XM DOFP.

    I think film gets such a bad rap because it followed the excellent X2. It's definitely a step down in quality, especially because the franchise was seemingly about to take off.
    The worst part about it was a dialogue and plot. They could've taken their time to introduce the Dark Phoenix Saga instead of trying to cram it into one film. The writers really leaned into making a Magneto a mustache-twirling villain, including him abandoning Mystique at the drop of a hat, which seemed out of character. So I guess subtract a great Mystique and introduce lame speedster-girl, thunderclap-girl, and undercooked Juggernaut. Kitty even draws attention to him by calling him a "d* head" and the audience can only nod their heads.
    And, due to Wolverine's popularity, the story focused too much on him, having him replace Cycolp's role as Jean's knight in shining armor. Meanwhile, Magneto was more of a menace than Jean, and he wasn't even part of the original story. They writers just wanted Magneto's special effects. They also crammed too many characters into the film (Beast, Angel, Juggernaut, and way too many others) instead of focusing on a few and building upon them. Fox wanted that toy line to grow.
    It squandered all the good will earned by the first two films and killed the momentum of the franchise. Iron Man would soon come out and the Avengers would become the franchise everyone loves instead.
    Fox and Warner Brothers really know how squander their riches.

    Angel seems like a really cool character. I'm kinda surprised that he always seems to be pushed into a supporting role (i.e. in this film, X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Evolution, Wolverine & the X-Men, etc), despite being a member of the First Class team of X-Men - I hope we get to see more of his character in the MCU.
    I would like to see a close bond between him & Storm like in Wolverine & the X-Men tbh, the fact that they can both fly feels like it could create a lot of fun scenes.

    Rumor has it that Cyclops got killed early because Marvel is petty & angry at James Marsden for starring in Superman Returns. Imagine your better role got cut because of an insignificant role in another movie.
    I guess it's X-Men Origins: Wolverine next? I hate the Wolverine trilogy, without the X-Men it felt like eating steak without any seasonings.
    Can't wait for the reboot era, if you watch Days of Future Past, pick the Rogue Cut. It's beefier.

    I’m happy you enjoyed this movie Seb, but yeah me personally I’m not the biggest fan at all. The whole plot with Jean was just way too rushed, and Cyclops death was extremely disappointing. My biggest gripe with these movies personally is that they basically just became “Wolverine and friends” because of Wolverine being such a money draw. Don’t get me wrong, he IS my favorite of the X Men, but seeing him get all the focus was disappointing. The likes of Storm, Rogue, Iceman and so on are pretty underutilized imo. And don’t get me started on the Cyclops of these movies lol, my boy got disrespected so badly from his comics counterpart. My hope for the MCU X Men is that they really take their time with each individual character before having a teamup film. Something I’ve always said would be a good idea would be doing a Disney+ anthology series about the X Men. So you assemble whatever team of them you want (whether it be the original comics team, the 90s animated series team, or a mix of anything else). And then you dedicate one episode to each individual character, somehow leading it into the next with Professor X bringing them to his school. That way each character gets some time to be fleshed out, and then when they do the X Men movie, they can focus on the plot, the characters relationships with one another and so on

    If comic fans tend to feel let down by "X-Men: The last Stand", general audiences mostly enjoy it as a solid trilogy capper. Like you they might feel it's a little rushed, given everything it's trying to do, but that it mostly does it's job effectively enough.
    Note: It would be nearly a decade, in real time, before the series picked up its characters (save for Wolverine) at a point AFTER "The Last Stand", and what mattered by that stage, following a failed spin-off, which all but killed the franchise, and a successful (soft)reboot/prequel, which got the series back up on its feet, if still a little uncertainly, was telling the next story as well as possible, not shoring up the previous one. All of which is to say; that it's enough to know going forward, that the cure is only temporary, and Xavier lives.
    Let me also suggest again - though I'm sure you've already ignored my unsolicited advice - that "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" is best ignored, or viewed as apocrypha, following the rest of the series. Watch "The Wolverine" next to get the best experience.
