  • I have always wanted to try a Ferris Pro Cut. New ones are 15 grand so when a decent used one popped up locally, we took a chance on it

I’m looking to buy a new 2025 one seeing everything is greasable now is a big plus seeing how well that one has faired I think it’s a good buy . Looks like they improved things as they went along . They remind me of the old Yazoos from years ago I worked on them as a teen at a golf course in Miami they had the big Wisconsin 2 cylinder engines sadly the EPA killed them over emissions regulations . Thanks for the review .

    Great mower, I’m a fan
Did you manage to increase ground speed since last year? Mine used to do easily 10-15kmh (6-9mph), very satisfying, and dangerous too in the tight turns, but the new (used) one I got is only doing half that speed. I believe there is a slotted adjustment plate by the pedal, but I have not figured how to set it yet. Let me know if you managed to get it to go faster!

I need to check my engine speed with a tachometer. I find the ground speed of this machine to be very slow compared to my IS2000Z. I am wondering if the engine governor needs adjusting because it seems like the engine is not going fast enough. My foot pedal and cable are adjusted properly.

@@ClaremontClassicGarage there definitely is a way to make this mower drive faster, but neither the literature nor my specialized mechanics are able to provide me with an answer. I noticed the pedal cable curves under the chassis and can move this notched plate used by the parking brake.. I tried to adjust it, but couldn’t see a difference. One thing for sure, is that it can go faster…

@@invisibleinuit May also simply be wear within the hydrostat unit itself. Any internal leakage or bypass will cause a lack of ground speed.

I have a 61 pro cut 20 Ferris. I can feel my hydraulic up before I mow and there is a leak. Runs good until I am about finished it has a hard time pulling. Model number H2223K and serial number 11021. I change the hydraulic hose and it is still leaking. The deck would raise up and down when we first got it and I ran up on a bank and now it will not work at all. I am not mechanically inclined,so do you have any video on how to check the hydraulic pump and how to check the lift on the deck

I haven't made any more Pro Cut videos. It is the nature of hydrostat drives to lose drive when they get hotter as they age and wear. Unfortunately the hydro drive pump is integral to the axle assembly and the axle assembly is discontinued.. The only advice I could give is to make sure the cooling fan is turning good and is clean and undamaged, make sure the cooling fins on top of the axle are clean, make sure the filter on the transaxle is recent. As far as the lift, it could be a million things.

Can you tell me what type of oil it takes ?

I used Mobil1 10W30 in the engine. and universal tractor drive fluid in the transaxle. I have also used synthetic ATF in them.
