My 2 cents on the "why still work at this place" from early in the video: we aren't really taught to have agency. We aren't taught we always have options. We are taught how to "respect" authority and that's about it. It's up to the parents to teach/help the kids learn how to be themselves and think for themselves, but many parents don't do that. These thoughts are my own, they may be correct or incorrect. I'm no authority, but I found writing it down here helpful for myself.
Sadly, even if they do have agency, sometimes lonely people will tie themselves to someone (perhaps a coworker that they enjoy working with) and find themselves enduring the abuse simply because they enjoy the coworker's company. Other times, they have been abused at home, school or every other job they've had and don't realize that they aren't supposed to be getting yelled at and that working anywhere else would be so much better. There's that desperate person who has too many bills and doesn't feel they can afford to take even a day off simply to avoid going deeper into debt. And occasionally they'll just get dogshit advice to "suck it up, buttercup, this is the REAL WORLD", only for advice giver to turn around later and say "Well, if I'd known it was THAT bad..." or 'You never told me that it was that awful".
Yep, this is exactly my opinion as well. If I were in that position, I too would just be going along without really realizing that I have the option to find a less awful job.
@@dotnet97 yep, this was me at my first job. We are always told jobs aren't supposed to be easy but boundaries and consent (which Alicia also talked about later in the video where I'm at now) are vital to all humans and here in U.S. we don't emphasize and enforce it properly from a young age.
7:37 I literally grew up in the same area as Amy's. And let me tell you, it took me a year to get my first job. I literally applied to every place within an hour's bike ride. Busboy, cashier, line Cook, stocker, janitor, waiter, dishwasher. And then once I hit the end of the list, I did it again from the top. I was free, too, I would've worked every day at whatever time they'd give me. Took a year to get a job at Taco Bell. Jobs have been fucking competitive. All these entry positions are just swallowed up by older people unable to get back on their feet after 2008 (no, seriously.) and older people working through the first bit of their retirement. It's so bad that most places required experience for entry level positions.
Alicia's reactions to Kitchen Nightmares have become my favorite reaction series from her. She's shared a lot of great insight into the restaurant industry.
Yeah, the Kitchen Nightmares UK season was basically an entirely different show that I wish we got more of. It shows a whole side of Gordon that the US productions try to hide. Intentionally written vaguely.
Twenty bucks says he thought they were investing into a money laundering venture without realizing that at some point, you need to have clean money coming in to change out for the dirty.
This episode was so intense that these people ended up on Dr Phil. The only time in kitchen nightmares where Gordon Ramsey left without helping the restaurant owners.

People with English as their secondary language have very funny insults when they're trying to translate it into English. Although most of them are sl*t shaming, hence the infamous “Ma'am, are you pr0statute?” Also appreciate both Alicia & Gordon being so hard on others stealing tips. Therapeutic to an American.
fun fact in a ama i think it was katy? all her desserts amy ''made' are all store bought and she revealed that amy forced the staff to clean everything, amy and sammy were also deported due to tax and he is banend in 2 countries due ot having ties with the mafia. It was also revealed that they got all the content they needed within the 1st day they came since kitchen nightmare's took 1 week to film. 20 dollar tip from ramsay.
The craziest thing about the owners is that they tried to make money off of their appearance on the show. They tried to make themselves out like victims who were being used by Gordon to make money, and they even had branded merchandise to sell online.
There's nothing I hate more from a business then when they take their workers tips. That money was a gift from the customer to the employee for good service and the owners have no right to take it. I used to write a lot of google reviews when I was younger and I'd always ask the employees about tips. If the business takes their tips or doesn't allow them to accept tips than that's an automatic 1 star.
@@mr.crumbles2557 The owners taking the tips wasn't that common when I did this (I live in the US so they were probably paying them less so couldn't take the tips. It's also possible they tell staff not to tell people). A very common thing was if they paid people minimum wage or more, they told the workers that they aren't allowed to accept tips, which I also think is scummy. A tip is between the customer and the employee, not the owner.
Welcome to the one where I question if someone took a cartoon villain and brought them to real life. She really shows the ABCs of what not to do or be.
They don’t explain it in the show, but it’s actually illegal in pretty much all states for the owner to completely take the tips of servers. It’s bad enough that depending on the state, their wage isn’t stopped at the minimum. The federal minimum is like $7.25, which is low enough as it is. In a lot of states, jobs that receive tips aren’t mandated to keep server’s wages at that level. The federal minimum for tipped minimum wage is at $2.13, and that is what some states are known to set it at. That is horrifically low, just know that depending on the state, it you don’t tip the servers, you literally aren’t paying them in some cases. Technically the business is supposed to make up the difference if they earn less than what they would have made if they were making normal minimum wage, but that’s not exactly much to begin with unless you’re in a state like California where the minimum wage for both tipped and non tipped jobs is $16 an hour.
"tipping cuwture in amewica is outta contwol" yeah?? We know?!? TIP THEM UNTIL WE CAN FIX IT THEN!!!?! MAYBE HELP WITH EFFORTS TO MAKE TIPPING IN AMERICA A THING OF THE PAST THEN AH?!?!!? I know I'm technically strawmanning rn but I know someone is gonna say it eventually so I'm getting a head of it
"A tipped employee engages in an occupation in which he or she customarily and regularly receives more than $30 per month in tips. An employer of a tipped employee is only required to pay $2.13 per hour in direct wages if that amount combined with the tips received at least equals the federal minimum wage. If the employee's tips combined with the employer's direct wages of at least $2.13 per hour do not equal the federal minimum hourly wage, the employer must make up the difference. Many states, however, require higher direct wage amounts for tipped employees."
1:12:25 Gordon’s the real gangster with a black belts in Karate, completed the Hawaii Ironman marathon in 14hrs, train’s in Boxing & MMA on the side. If he wasn’t a chef he’d be part of the Navy Seals.
I've seen some interviews and stuff from Gordon, and he used to do sports before taking up culinary! YESSS!!! The second I found out she’s the owner of a restaurant through another Hell’s Kitchen video I KNEW she needed to see this one. Props to all the people who recommended ABC, ya’ll are real ones.
"ABC". This episode is infamous for being so insane from start to finish. The revisit episode is worth a watch as well, because their madness can't be contained in just 1 episode lol.
I live in a small town, around 10,000 people, and while we don't really have a 'tip culture', not living in the America, most places have a tip jar, while I was working Hospitality they either used tips divided between Wait and Kitchen staff, used for petty cash, or put towards the end of year staff party. With the regular customers, "tips" weren't always monetary either, some elderly customers would bring in homemade/grown produce if they'd had some left over, someone just gave a corner cafe her sausage roll recipe and they added it to the menu as the "Lesley Special", hell, this past Easter Saturday, busy as anything, and someone comes in and gives the staff two cooked pizzas because they wouldn't have time to actually stop for lunch with how busy it was.
One thing i learned to do and had to teach my wife to do..... when looking for a restaurant in the area, NEVER judge based on bad reviews. Use the good reviews to see if its worth trying out so you can form your OWN opinion. And along with that, never trust the star ratings based on customer reviews. Trolls amd karens leave bad reviews, most customers who liked it just become repeat business instead. I follow Sebastián Maniscalco's method.
A negative review that was clearly written while calm and properly explains what happened to give the negative can be worth adding to the decision to try that restaurant. One that just complains and throws insults at the staff and/or food is usually not worth using. Definitely agree with the star rating, it's bad enough that people use them differently, but the number of times I've seen a restaurant offer discounts for five star reviews is ridiculous.
Haven't even seen the episode yet, but seeing the thumbnail I'd recognize this episode of Kitchen Nightmares anywhere. This is going to be interesting.

This is the one I remember. I didn’t watch Kitchen Nightmares all that often, I was more of a Mystery Diners guy, but I clearly remember watching this episode when it came out, at my now stepdad’s house.
That fact that Amy continues to make comments on the episode and fights people online about it is just so funny to me. She's actually nuts. I wonder how many untreated/undiagnosed mental disorders she has, cuz it seems like she's got a whole cocktail of them going on. Or they're on drugs lol She's like an insane teenager
I went to cooking school to become a baker. I worked at a bar/nightclub/restaurant for 2 and a half years before I got sick with an autoimmune illness. I worked my way up from dish washer to be just under the head cook. And I can say yeah people will try things to get free food all the time. But the thing was our boss knew what we cooked and how we did it so anyone complaining about it, if he heard it he'd know if it was possible or what! He had owned the club for almost as long as I have been alive so he had no qualms about bitching people out, either employee's or customers!
Finally the BEST episode imo for Kitchen Nightmares, you wanna see the *worst* kind of place. Amy's Baking Company is the best episode on what *NOT* to do as an owner. Codeword: ABC

@raymondfisheriii791 it's a reference from the Yu-Gi-Oh! abridged series. There is a scene where Yami/Atem/the pharaoh instead of "oh my god" says "oh my various gods" because ancient egypt was polytheistic.
17:36 I think there is a restaurant in Reno, Nevada that does that. The wait staff are allowed to be rude to the customers. There are even times when, the customer would ask for rolls, the waiter would toss the rolls from across the restaurant!
6:00 yes because gordan ramsay is known for going to failing restaurants and telling them that they are doing everything perfect and right, the gordan ramsey classic.

Opening with “Oh that’s nice” just to immediately start getting that vibe that something is off ten seconds later. This episode is always something to watch.
As some one who is 25 i have felt the exact same way since i was in 1st grade. My life has been both simple and complicated for over a decade now and i know that when i am in my 80s it will still be the same as it is now and as it was back then and i am fine with that.
Here in the Netherlands tips aren't normal. If you get a tip it's usually to round the price up to a whole number or a multiple of 5 because it's easier, especially when paying cash. Where i used to work the tips were so low that we just pooled the tips to all go out together to a movie or something like that once a year.
Tips aren't normal in other countries because wages are livable in other countries. In the USA, tips are an excuse to lower the already unlivable min wage. It sucks. It's broken. The customer basically pays the salary in place of the boss.
It kinda makes sense. They usually hope Kitchen Nightmares is a last resort but most of the time the owners or chefs are too set in their ways to keep the changes. They go back or the reputation doesn't improve enough to save the business, so they still just go under. It's a shame, but it's honestly to be expected.
Yeah, I think also there some statistics on why they had to shut down, most of the time it was falling back into old habits and ignoring Gordon's advice, with the rest being an even mix between their old reputation couldn't be fixed and the new operating cost caught up to them
Someone did a whole video looking into how many restaurants have been closed and one of the things that stuck for me from it is that it's extremely hard for a restaurant to survive a long time just as a general rule. Add to that that most of these were on their last leg...yeah, it's not surprising at all
I think that statistics is a bit misleading. Resteraunts close all the time, so it's important to check WHEN they closed. If they stayed open for another couple of years or so, it's likely that Gordan did help.
I had forgotten how hard this one goes off the rails right from the fuckin start, like 5 solid minutes of screaming and threats _before Gordon even enters the restaurant_
Oh boy buckle up for the this one because Amys Bakery is the most special episode of this show by far. This is the only episode in Kitchen Nightmares history where Gordon leaves and the show ends without any help being given. Just think about how crazy that is. The people running this restaurant where so unbelievably awful not even Gordon Ramsey could help them and he has seen the absolute worst owners you can imagine on this show. This place is in another stratosphere compared to every other place featured on the show and basically has taken on a life of it own outside the show through memes. The episode was so popular it actually caused Gordon to do a follow up episode on the restaurant for the first time kitchen nightmares history just because of its sheer popularity. I would recommend to check out the follow up episode if you want.

The "I need a drink" comment mid reaction also made me realize- It'd be nice to see some reactions to the "How To Drink" UA-cam, especially his series on bad/weird cocktails that were actually ordered by people.
It's hilarious Alicia, at about 56:00 in while you were talking about the cilantro gene and mentioned the taste of celery I literally did the Italian upward pointed finger "Delicioso" meme and said "Celery is awesome" in sync with your "Celery is awful"! To be clear, I share the cilantro-soap gene too, I just enjoy the flavour, like the soapy lavender flavour of Thrills gum; Which makes it doubly hilarious that I said "Well whatever, I'm my own person I can like what I want!" only to unpause and hear you say the same. It's pretty neat! You can tell because of the way it is!

@@akun50 that is a very good point. And they may also just be used to that behavior at home and not know it is supposed to be different/better.
@@dotnet97 yep, this was me at my first job. We are always told jobs aren't supposed to be easy but boundaries and consent (which Alicia also talked about later in the video where I'm at now) are vital to all humans and here in U.S. we don't emphasize and enforce it properly from a young age.
Bearing in mind that kids are taught to put up with a shit teacher/counselor instead of looking for options
All the chatters at the start saying "it begins," is like Theodin waiting on the orks from Two Toweres. "And so it begins." 😂
Coincidentally the owners are equally vile and aggressive as the orcs
Yessssss! 😅😅
"And so it begins, the great shitstorm of our time."
Can't wait for you to see "Mama Cherie's" it's surprising in a very different way.
Was it the soul food shack?
@thatonewitch yep yep
Yeah, the Kitchen Nightmares UK season was basically an entirely different show that I wish we got more of. It shows a whole side of Gordon that the US productions try to hide.
Intentionally written vaguely.
S Tier cooks, D tier business managers, happens to the best.
Twenty bucks says he thought they were investing into a money laundering venture without realizing that at some point, you need to have clean money coming in to change out for the dirty.
This episode was so intense that these people ended up on Dr Phil.
The only time in kitchen nightmares where Gordon Ramsey left without helping the restaurant owners.
...this is the first time i heard this. What episode?
Ramsay left without actually helping many an owner. This is the first time he left without being able to forge a better narrative for himself.
@EAfirstlast if its any other episode or just restaurants that didnt made it into an episode, i could buy it. With owners this stubborn & obnoxious? the "better narrative" writes themselves
My grandma once said "There are starving people in the world" to my mom and you wanna know what she replied with?
She replied with "so why don't you give it to them?"
RIP your mom, I guess. :p
@@boxorak Yup, Lol, I'm just a figment of what would've been...
Congrats, your mom had the correct response. Shame your grandmother had to get rid of her afterwards lol
"ok mom, give me a list of names."
I definitely recommend checking out the Burger Kitchen episode. It's just as nuts as this one, with an added side of family drama and tension.
Personally I can’t even rewatch that one. The father is such a fucking piece of shit embezzling his son’s inheritance it just makes me sooooo fucking mad
And more ties to organized crime. In this case, Alan being the son of who is essentially the Australian Al Capone.

I gotta say, I work in a cafe as a prep cook , and it’s fun watching yall as a restaurant owner’s commentary over the already fun aspect of seeing kitchen nightmares as a food service worker
I freaking knew it! I knew this would be Alicia's next watch on Kitchen Nightmares - the most watched and controversial episode of the series.
Controversial? It seems like everyone agrees that Amy and Samy are insane
@@Pokemaniak180 Amy went on such a tantrum online that she made it controversial all by herself.
The fact this is how they behave when THEY KNOW they are being recorded makes me even more worried
People with English as their secondary language have very funny insults when they're trying to translate it into English. Although most of them are sl*t shaming, hence the infamous “Ma'am, are you pr0statute?”
Also appreciate both Alicia & Gordon being so hard on others stealing tips.
I wonder how common that is. Someone I know worked for a noodle place and her tips were taken too. Really infuriating
Isn't it also extremely illegal? It's not too far off from embezzlement.
@@josefsieffen18 I'm no expert on the law so I couldn't tell you. I just know it's very scummy.
@danteglory95 Every time I hear about this happening, half the comments are "easy money lawsuit," so I'm pretty sure it's very illegal lmao.
I know I'm technically strawmanning rn but I know someone is gonna say it eventually so I'm getting a head of it
@ agreed. Tipping is dumb. Forcing servers to survive off tips is just being cruel.
@ hm, okay maybe I’m off a little.
Federal minimum wage is a worthless stat.
His thoughts on some of the best chefs coming from a sports background actually makes a lot of sense, considering he elaborates that it comes from the heavy discipline both fields naturally demand, and how both strongly emphasize a level of teamwork. He really is a down to brass tacks kickass kind of dude.
He can whoop you then cook you a nice meal after lol
He covered Brazilian Shark Poachers with gas and told them to find a new hobby ..
Some of these restaurant owners are straight up insane
I try not to hate people, but as a former restaurant worker, I HATE THESE OWNERS!!!!!!!!
Oh Jesus this couple drove Gordon and us up a DAMN wall
56:10 It might be like how plants have natural defense mechanisms. I literally can't smell cooked green peppers or lettuce without feeling nauseous
Wait till you see the return episode
PS, it was never said in the show, but it was revealed the cakes WERE store bought
The rabbit hole goes so deep with this one, there are so many videos about this couple.
"I'm pushing 30."
Implying that's a bad thing. XD
Considering the increasing average lifespan of modern humans, that's still pretty young. 🤣
Yeah I turn 34 in just over 2 weeks, does that make me ancient now? I do yell at kids to get off my lawn......
Haven't even seen the episode yet, but seeing the thumbnail I'd recognize this episode of Kitchen Nightmares anywhere. This is going to be interesting.
Aaahhhh. The confused and horrified expression less than five minutes into the reaction. You caught on immediately.
I wasn't going to watch another one right away, but put it on my back burner. Then you uploaded Amy of all people, lol. I must see this one.😂
Oh boy. Amy’s Baking Company. I cannot wait to hear how you tear into this crazy place.
Oh no, not Amy's Baking Company. This is gonna drive her insane.
ABC! 😁Classic episode!!!! 2 mins in "Wait she's crazy!" {cut to morpheus} "She's starting to believe!"😂😂😂
Cannot wait for wait for you to get to 'The Galleria' episode... With Sarah the waitress and Sammy the bus boy 😂Sarah is a true Legend!
Amy is my definition of 'crazy eyes'.
This episode should be played at video game studios. It's a master class in "What happens when your arrogant ass calls your customer base idiots" Even Gordon "RAW!" Ramsey couldn't save this trainwreck....
Looking especially at you, Ubisoft.
This is the one I remember. I didn’t watch Kitchen Nightmares all that often, I was more of a Mystery Diners guy, but I clearly remember watching this episode when it came out, at my now stepdad’s house.
CHARLES STILES MYSTERY DINERS ?!
That fact that Amy continues to make comments on the episode and fights people online about it is just so funny to me. She's actually nuts. I wonder how many untreated/undiagnosed mental disorders she has, cuz it seems like she's got a whole cocktail of them going on.
Or they're on drugs lol
She's like an insane teenager
Perhaps a bit of column a and column b
If i were a betting man, I'd bet she has clinical narcissism
@bondfall0072 Oh absolutely. I was thinking she might have some sort of BPD because of how she changes moods so radically
Oh dear god it's THE Kitchen Nightmare. The worst small business ever feature. And the most hilarious
Finally the BEST episode imo for Kitchen Nightmares, you wanna see the *worst* kind of place. Amy's Baking Company is the best episode on what *NOT* to do as an owner.
Codeword: ABC
There's a reason this was heavily requested
Dude I find Alica so fascinating because she has many cool experiences and facts I learn every video
Oh. My. Various. Gods! It's THAT EPISODE! THIS WILL BE GLORIOUS!!!
Which gods, might I ask? Mine are Artemis, Thor, and the Morríggan. I’m genuinely intrigued to know, but if you don’t wish to share, that’s fully understandable
@raymondfisheriii791 it's a reference from the Yu-Gi-Oh! abridged series. There is a scene where Yami/Atem/the pharaoh instead of "oh my god" says "oh my various gods" because ancient egypt was polytheistic.
Can we get Alicia to watch the Kitchen Nightmares episode with the “Nino’s” Restaurant? 😂 I LOVE that episode!! “HELLO! My name is NINO!!!”
Yayy, your quickly becoming one of my favorite channels to watch.
You’re not ready for this one. You have no idea what you are about to put yourself through.
Hell yeah! I’ve been waiting for this one! Edit: ABC for the code word!
Ever since I found out you're a restaurant owner (congrats by the way) and reacting to kitchen nightmares, I've been hoping and waiting till you get to this ogre and his trollope of a wife lol.
There was people that dropped by after the show. You know. To watch the pretty fire.😂
I legit watched your two other Kitchen nightmare videos yesterday so this is perfectly timed
Always wild that people complain about a reactor reacting. Like, what? It's literally the point of the video, them reacting!
YES! I am subscribed to channels for reactions, not to just watch a reuploaded video. If I wanted that, I'd go watch the original.
Now burger kitchen is next.. and hopefully eventually hotel hell
4:18 it's not just crazy it is an explicit admission of a crime by saying she wants it to hurt.
Should totally get her to watch Bar Rescue if she enjoys commentating on Kitchen Nightmares
I can taste celery, and while it's not something I want to eat on its own, it goes well in soups and stews and jambalaya
Opening with “Oh that’s nice” just to immediately start getting that vibe that something is off ten seconds later. This episode is always something to watch.
1:03:00 You should watch Bar Rescue cause the host on it puts people on blast too 😂. Plus you'll be able to see them redesign the whole place.😊
I'm pretty sure it's common knowledge that Gordon plays up his anger for the American audiences. This episode I think his anger was genuine
As soon as I saw the notification pop up. I immediately clicked. I am excited for this 🤩
ABC let's go!
I think i read somewhere that like 80 to 90% of all the places featured on the show are no longer in business.
And the ones that did survive ended up loosing it all due to the pandemic.
Oh shit, one of the best episodes of the show!
I had forgotten how hard this one goes off the rails right from the fuckin start, like 5 solid minutes of screaming and threats _before Gordon even enters the restaurant_
Yeah they had no shame threatening and verbally assaulting their guests on a regular basis.
21:54 there's so much lore. We need to get Nux on this 😆
Cilantro taste like soap, celery, taste like celery and rosemary is divine
37:00 Gurl rambling to Ramsey like a cultist worshipping an idol 😅
I have needed this since the first Kitchen Nightmares reaction
This vid took me two days to go through because I needed to step away halfway through. That woman is so incredibly infuriating and just sucks the soul out of everyone that is near her. XD Thank you and your chat for making this episode bearable to watch.

Drug money probably
16:00 i love the audacity Sammy has of like
Man: "We been waiting for an hour for 1 pizza."
Sammy: "Well that sucks, you want to wait, you wait, you don't want to wait, pay us for it anyway and leave."
still gets me every time, and i've seen this about 3 or 4 times now
51:50 medium rare Burgers slap honestly. I get mine from Texas Roadhouse and I feel great for the next 4 hours. I get a meat high 😊
Oh yeah, this episode is an absolute must see for anyone reacting to KN, I've been waiting for it to pop up 😈😅
Okay; I was already taken aback by the fact Alicia owns a restaurant… but 2?!
The "I need a drink" comment mid reaction also made me realize-
It'd be nice to see some reactions to the "How To Drink" UA-cam, especially his series on bad/weird cocktails that were actually ordered by people.
