- SpecComm ammo can GMRS repeater build. Build is based on GUERRILLACOMM's Personal Simplex Repeater.
• Personal Simplex Radio...
I made a few changes to his design including LifePO4 Battery, Lid Mount NMO antenna, Bulkhead power passthru. Video is an overview of my build. Tree mount and camo paint is my next project.
List of Materials I used:
Battery www.ebay.com/itm/381044582015
Solar Panel www.ebay.com/itm/271552619864
Baofeng UV5R Battery emilinator www.ebay.com/itm/371105661626
Ammo Can www.ebay.com/itm/321003708321
Hydrosorbent Canister www.ebay.com/itm/221299011340
Changed Charge Controller to www.ebay.com/itm/251886463978
Argent Data Systems ADS-SR1 Simplex Repeater www.argentdata.com/catalog/pr...
Argent to Baofeng Cable www.argentdata.com/catalog/pr...
The other things you will need is a NMO Antenna mount, An NMO UHF antenna, GMRS License (to be legal), Bulkhead Power feed thru (many different types on ebay that are better than the one I had lying about), fuse holders, fuses, wire. - Спорт
Well, its been a few years now. How well has the repeater worked, so far? How has that battery worked out? Do you have a parts list?
There's gonna be that one pencil neck who says not to use baofeng on GMRS and all that shit. I say this is awesome. When it comes to emergency, nothing is illegal in my nook.
How do they know unless you tell them?I run an icom on gmrs nobody here runs gmrs radios they all run ham radios on the cb band too..
This is great! Duplex is nice for casual talking, but for max probability of making communication, I like the Argent simplex system. Hear the repeater or direct simplex since they are on the same frequency.
Thanks so much for sharing.
Very cool!!
This is going up their with
Awesome stuff like
crystal radios and stuff.
Not sure what all the complaining fuss is about. This is a great portable simplex repeater build/demonstration. The only specific part you really need is the Argent simplex repeater controller with cables which you clearly explained. The rest of the stuff is the choice of the builder. This is perfect for amateur radio preppers.
1. Some kind of HT radio with an external speaker mike jack.
2. A 12V battery eliminator for the radio.
3. An external antenna.
4. A rechargeable battery of your choice.
5. A solar panel with battery appropriate charge controller.
6. Wires and connectors to hook it all together.
7. A box to put it in.
No need for a duplexer or second radio in the box, this is simplex.
Great for camping or emergencies. You can use any legal frequency wherever you are and start communicating. You don’t have to drag a spectrum analyzer to apply a new field tune your your duplexer on a different channel. You don’t have to carry multiple duplexers because you want to switch from a VHF station to a UHF station.
There is no reason to compare this demonstration against a duplex repeater.
In your camping scenario, it seems the advantage to simplex on a single freq is that when someone hears your TX, they know how to RX. If you use split freq, when they hear your distress call, they don't know what channel to reply on. Is that correct?
Wish you would do more with the GMRS repeater and other GMRS videos. For emergency comm’s.
Nice! I have the same ADS-SR1 simplex repeater. I really like its features!
How does it work? Is the clarity good and what kind of range are you getting?
Very nice job, is there a duplex version available?
i really like your proyect. neet. thumbs up!!!
Are those connectors on the outside box waterproof? I'm having trouble figuring out how to connect the solar DC or AC power charger from outside to inside.
They are not waterproof out of the box, I put silicone between the halves both inside and outside of box and then covered the outside connections with silicone once connected, no problems or leaks yet.
if you use a different ctcss tone on tx than you use on rx then you only hear one side of the conversation not all the repeats,if using simplex, but the thing about baofengs is you can set a diffrent tx frequency when only using the split feature . there great.
Hey there I've been thinking about a repeater that can be attached to a drone. I flew scout helicopters in
the army . We provided retranse/repeater for ground troops. If I could get the
Weight down. What do you think?
I think that could be a cool idea if implemented well. A nice way to be able to get your signal high up for contact in a short notice. I'm no expert, but there might be some interference associated with the 2.4 GHz controller. If not, sound great.
How did you end up powering the Argent ADS-SR1 Simplex Repeater?
I would buy one if you could build this for me. Having trouble wrapping my head around this build.
Great Video
nice build
73
I put a duplexer in mine. Actually useful.
So you used two radios and the duplexer? I like the idea of no-latency. My family members won't have the patience for simplex.
What did it cost to build?
terrific job 73 thanks from kb2uew
how much did you spend all in all can u ..can you make me one and will pay the coast thanks let me know how many power output by the way thanks let me know
Whats the range on these?
Does it work ?
Looking to build a similar rig
Question - what is that material around the Argent?
foam lol the silver stuff is mylar bag
would be nice if you put a list of components and purchase links , would give your vid more popularity
Menachem Hafter I added a list of materials to the description. Thank you.
SpecComm
How much would you charge to build one for me?
Looking to make. A portable repeater. With a power range of 8 hours or more. Adding a extra power cell. For radio. And spare battery's for the controller. Then retrieve when done. Tks got amo can. H freight.
How long can the battery last without the solar panel
Not really sure, I would expect a few days to a week or more, depending on usage.
I made a simplex repeater out of a ISD1820 and a BF-888s...total cost $22 CDN
I like to try can you help
are you worried about getting hit with a fine from the fcc?
why would he be fined?
You need a GMRS license
Simplex relaying is not allowed for GMRS. Read the FCC regulations part 95.
It's not only that Simplex Repeaters are NOT allowed on GMRS. The UV-5R is NOT type accepted for usage on GMRS. Every single radio that is used on GMRS must be Type Accepted and Approved for use on Part 95. The UV-5R is Part 90 approved. But not Part 95. There is only one Baofeng (BTECH) radio that is Part 95 approved/certified for usage on GMRS: The GMRS-V1. It's the only legal way to use GMRS on any Baofeng HT product .
So there are two violations taking place in this video. Part 90 & Part 95 are completely separate services and have no connections. Part 90 approved does NOT grant Part 95 approval. And vice versa. There is so much misinformation in the Prepper Communities about this. Alot of them don't bother following the FCC Rules anyway. But if they get caught, they will not just face 'One' violation. They will be slapped with two violations.
Not used enough to hit the FCC radar. If it was interfering with a repeater, somebody might complain but most guys use them as SHTF backups & just test them enough to know they work.

Update us
I don`t see the purpose a Simplex Repeater.
unless your testing the range on your radio simplex is pointless
Not if there is a big hill in the way of two people trying to communicate...duplex is better sure but RF shielding comes into play with building a small repeater using the BF radios since they cancel each other out pretty easily even at a few wavelengths away
That's what cavity filters / duplexers are for.
Why build a simplex repeater which isn't legal? Go ahead and build a real repeater.
