Radio shack sold a simplex unit like that, I bought one for $2.00 on their close out table they use to have. I wish I bought all 4 they had. I still have it 15 years later and still have not used it other then to see how it worked. And it was great.
Hey GG, to be exact,Cousins are NOT included in the immediate family.Breakdown from 95.179 Individuals who may be station operators.
(a) An individual GMRS system licensee may permit immediate family members
to be station operators in his or her GMRS system. Immediate family members are the:1 Licensee, spouse & children, grandchildren, children;
2. Licensee's parents, grandparents, stepparents;
3. Licensee's brothers, sisters
4 Licensee's aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews;
5.Licensee's in-laws.
Yeah, radiosification is right. there are plenty of repeaters already deployed, but I'm building a self contained mobile unit geared towards prepping. Just want to have our own maintained backup. This unit will have the ability to record messages or announcement for later retrieval. That's the main focus of my build that a normal repeater does not have. You have plenty of help to bring you up to speed with your comms, just gotta ask.. we're here to help and contribute.
Great videos...keep them coming.
You're right, in my case its to negotiate mountain ridges. the distance away depends on your terrain of operation. you will not be 100% to cover everything but you could fill many holes. When I deploy this gear, I will cover how to select a site and do an actual range and cover test.
Was not trying to be anal, but I saw how you want to do this by the letter of the law and I felt all should know the exact wording. I too am building either the Simplex Repeater or the next step up which is the Inexpensive Duplex Repeater that is being offered . But the Simplex has one great thing over all, and that is it is truly simple. I don't have to worry about power for 2 radios And that's what you really need in a dire emergency. I look forward to your part 2. Keep the videos coming
Beautiful.
Good stuff, I purchase my GMRS license last week and plan on building a similar unit.
quick question how long did it take to get the GMRS license once you payed for it
It all handled online, so almost instant.
+Nomad-76 great thanks for getting back
Here in the UK when the 11m CB band conditions are good we can hear and work a few parrot repeaters over on mainland europe, they may be cheap and simple but they do work, it gets a bit crazy when too many people are using them, its time I got out of here and got some sleep 73 guerrilla geek
The final deployed product will have some extra security setup precautions. You might have to get another radio, the ones you have is another band. I cant use MURS with this system, it will reduce my capabilities concerning the FCC rules. This is for your preps too, and some others we hung out with personally for theirs. They could use this when they travel to their safe location and leave recorded messages en-route. more details on capabilities later
Great videos
Does it have all the features like the surecom repeater does? like dtmf tone to operate it, save voice messages, broadcast a message every so minutes, will the one dual pin network cable work on a baofeng uv-5r?
What would be needed to connect a BK EPH to one of these argent data simplex repeaters
What is the different using this simplex repeater vs a duplex repeater box where u need 2 radios. Is there a different on performance
Alright you have me sold. But can someone explain the process of registering a repeater for GMRS or if I would even have to?
will the personal repeater work with nextell iden phones
GMRS LICENSE is $70.00 for ten years. I just got mine two weeks ago . WRFF835
nice, if you setup a repeater, or just want more info, some of us hang out here.

I've been wanting to pick up an ADS-SR1 for a few weeks now but they seem to be perpetually out of stock.
Okay, thanks a bunch! :-)
Oh, okay, thanks for the info. :-)
I'm an idiot when it comes to knowing about this stuff. I'm assembling my comms as we speak. I have the wouxions and plan on getting my ham license this year. What's the significance of having the simplex repeater for your family's comms??
Do you need a repeater license if it is private?
Can't wait for the next installment. Maybe we can head out one day and test them, It you don't have another volunteer?
I don't know. If you could find the signals needed to interface it with the simplex repeater, I would say yes. But I would imagine it would be a challenge.
Yes, that is exactly my question, but let me expand. Are you supposed to plant the repeater somewhere out land of your base? How far away? My understanding of repeaters is to extend your signal so it would seem to me that you place this repeater out land somewhere. Am I correct?
Looks promising for a Community Watch group.
Great Video Brother! Is the VX7r still in service?
Sure is, but not used as much. Thanks for watching.
@@GUERRILLACOMM where's your ebay shop...with all of them ol but goodies...im fairly New to the Hobby and really into ALL RADIOS...lol but yea would definitely like to enjoy it!
What are your thoughts on backup radios, and spare parts... one of my worries with electronics of any kind is their relative durability issues - even in high-end gear. The cost of such devices coupled with the relatively high likelihood that they are going to fail, makes me kinda worry about putting so much of my monitory resources towards them. I do recognize the benefits of comms so that is why I am exploring ways to repair/ have backups. The issue is that back-ups make an already expensive prep almost unobtainable for someone on a relatively tight budget.
Its bad enough just to get your initial short range tactical sets, let alone a backup.Your priorities will determine how deep you want to go into the rabbit hole. Comms, by itself is an expensive, long learning curve hobby, with much room for error that would cause damage to equipment. the older gear you could get spare parts, but then you need all the support test equipment that cost a bit of money to test and align the equipment. the newer sets are almost made to be disposable and replaced with a new radios, not cost effective to repair, such as these chinese radios flooding the market. I have no clear answer other than showing by example what I'm doing. the gear I have so far are somewhat redundant, and add to it as opportunity arises. its just a very small portion of my preps where the lion share is food, H2o, & shelter. For me, I would definitely have backup and spares for scanner/shortwave equipment and short range radios. 5 miles range. For now its just my household. I have another like minded friend that I could get a hold of by radio, but no real way of physically backing each other up except for boots on the ground intel of whatever situation. Bottom line a scanner is your ears to the world past your horizon, I much rather find out whats going on externally from a distance. This is an issue with many people, especially newbe's.
Thats kinda how I am.. I would like to have more comms but it's a fairly large investment and one that could only be beneficial short term.
GMRS license is valid for ten years now.
You got it, I will start spending less on ammo and start putting some away for a radio, lol.
Can you recommend a hand held ham radio for me? I just got my license. Can you do this with a BaoFeng?
Yes you may operate on Ham frequency with the BeoFang unit.
What happens when the memory is full on the repeater
could i use this on murs the rules say no store and forward
FCC rules says not allowed, sorry. They are pretty specific about it.
I'm trying to build a simplex repeater using mobile radios any thoughts on how to do this?
Erik Kasprzyk It depends on the mobile radio. If the radio has an accessory port, you could make the necessary connections there. if its a minimalist radio, you are going to have to interconnect through the speaker wires and microphone port. Really good question, my repeater is off line, have to go up there and fix it. If I cant, I'll take it doewn the hill and interface it through a mobile the hard way, (minimalist radio). Too much detail to cover through a comment section, though, I like the idea of making a build video with a mobile. It may take me some time.
@@GUERRILLACOMM how about a icom IC-F621-2 TR UHF mobile 50 watt?
Watch for rf interjection into those audio cables.
I think this is a good configuration. But I think comms needs rules especially if you are using 3 or more stations. 1. Roger beep must be utilized, 2. no transmissions over 10 seconds long, 3. you must wait a minimum or 20 seconds to respond, 4. each station must acknowledge whom they are transmitting to so that other stations do not all try to comm at the same time.
It will last 3-6 hours. That’s like saying you might die when you’re 1 or 101!
can you use it with the f c c rules & regs
ham radio 03 what are you asking? Are you asking if it's legal? If so then the answer would be yes if you have an amateur radio license but if you don't then it would be illegal
Does this repeater actually increase your power (wattage) output?
Mark Davis Technically no, its the same wattage as a handheld. Strategic deployment in this example is what going to increase your range.
I have the same simplex repeater. Check out my videos of it!

I think you fools and the FCC need to fix the mess you have with your grms frs radios
You are actually talking about 40 channel wide band 25 kHz and a 80 channel narrow band 12.5 kHz UHF CB ..
Not sure why they would be mixing wide band and narrowband re hash in the same band..
I always thought the licensing bs had to do with sub 150 MHz band not the wide narrow band application on a UHF CB which has 4-5 watt nominal output..
You be better off to create a 120 channel UHF radio system where you got the 1st 40 channels as standard UHF 25 kHz mode and do a 80 channel narrow band running 12.5 kHz steps...Nothing good becomes of running two types of modulation over the same batch of freqs always causes a mess..
I'm in a country where we still openly use 40 channel wideband and 80 channel narrow band UHF CB system over the same bunch of freqs and the 2 can not co-exist on the same radio withiut causing transmission issues..
You only create problem when you try to mix wideband and narrow band within the freqs real estate...
This is why you have a 12.5 kHz step applied to the narrowband UHF portion and a 25khz portion for wide band use..
My opinion I think if they wish to use wide band applications within a UHF format they will need to create UHF block for it same with the narrowband applications
You can not over lay narrow band on top of wide band using the same batch of freqs...
Unless you own a seven foot ant the reality within the comedian frequency range is no more than 1-2 km. Whether you use a 1/2 a watt to 4-5 watts your range will be the same now if you can hit a repeater within a mile or less you might get 20-40 miles..
Though simplex will alway fall between a half a mile to a mile unless you can serious wattage which will likely get a slap on the wrist from the FCC
The freqs you listed over here where I live would be considered UHF CB freqs
Note with the Chinese ht's you buy their distance falls within the same distance as my UHF CB radio..
Any distance claims companies tout on thier ht's work within scope of an active repeater system being in place, all simplex and duplexing actions your radio support will fall within this scope of use regardless of whether you can set the operations to 1/2 watt to 5 watts...
You talk to much, its boring!!!
The devil is in the details. Patience is a virtue only a few could appreciate.
Can't argue that.
Great video I learn a lot. Thanks
