Great Video. One of the common issues with this carb' is the plastic choke touches the metal bracket (that holds the air filter) and hangs up in the open position. If you run a metal nail file down between the choke and the bracket you can shave just enough plastic off to fix it and you do not have to remove the carb'. This is super easy. And it fixes a NO START issue.
Robert Clark you are a gentleman and a scholar. Your suggestion did the trick for me. With about 4 hours invested, I had already changed spark plug, air filter, emptied gas tank, removed fuel line to inspect and then bit the bullet and searched on carburetor videos. Thanks E&R for an excellent video. It gave me enough info to decide that perhaps my relatively new mower's carburetor wasn't the issue or that at least today was not the day to disassemble mine. By God's grace I read a few comments and found Robert's here at the top. I also learned that you can cause the plastic choke to stay open by not being careful about how you replace the mower top lid. 🙂
This is the only video that went in depth and showed step by step how to remove and unclog that stupid cartridge and it fixed my mower. Much appreciated, like and a follow! Thank you sir
Thank you for this video! My Toro Super Recycler was reving up and down and then intermittently would just quit. This video gave me the confidence to pull the carburetor apart and do the cleaning as you have shown. One thing I encountered was some resistance re-seating the carburetor which required a little force due to the plastic seal ring.
Take the upper cover off and lift the tank out to rinse it out with clean gas. The carb and tank can come off together without fighting the short fuel hose. Dump the fuel in a jar. Inspect the tank screen. Send the carb fuel back into the tank to clear the screen, then remove tank cap and pour into a large mouth clear jar. Then the problem doesn't repeat often. Let it sit. If you have anything in the bottom of the jar, pour off and retain it. Use the upper part of the fuel in your pickup. Use fresh fuel in the small engine. Floral wire measures right for poking those jet holes. If you haven't yet bought torch tip cleaner. I was so glad to learn this instead of buying more and shipping Chinese junque. But that's where everything's coming from. A jet can fix some carbs. A metal needle valve with Viton tip, can fix others. A q-tip In a drill can clean the needle seat. Use fresh gas and don't leave today's gas sitting in the mower. Use it up. You can drain the bowl with an Allen. Then a short long container can catch it. These work well once a mechanic re-works them.
@@ranflee1 you did just exactly what I did on the last one I had to fix and found the same port blocked. Nice find and good diagnosing. I wish all those who replaced carbs don't throw them away. It's nice to have a cleaned go-to part.
Torch tip cleaner was my best friend when I got back from overseas service. My motorcycle had been taken out (I had no clue) and put up with gas to solidify in carbs. I used three diff sizes for all those jets in all four carbs.
Best Video on the interwebs about this issue. Like everyone else you saved me a bunch of time and headache. This was 100% my issue, cleaned it out with a tiny paperclip and boom fired right back up and cut with no issues.
before storing the lawnmower for the winter remove the gas by tipping the lawnmower over to it's side then turning the lawnmower on till it dies out by itself and store it when mowing season comes just put fresh gas this will help you not having starting issues in the beginning of the mowing season old gas or water in the gas will give you problems.
Had the same problem. I would disassemble the carburetor and reassemble. It would start and run for a minute or two then it died off . I said to heck with it , I ordered on from Amazon for 32 buck now it runs beautifully I fuel it up with premium gas and it runs great , mine is a Craftsman push mower . I’ve had it for two year now and still runs great . Thanks for the vid
Cool clip. My mower was reving up and down. I pulled out the little white cartridge and noticed a dark patch. I used a needle and a can of compressed air with the (straw) attachment. It cleared the debris (dark patch),my mower now running as per normal, thank you.

I saw the same thing at the 4:56 mark you can see the o ring laying there right by the hinge, also he got lucky because he didn't tear the carb down completely, he didn't take the center out of the white plastic piece that has an additional 3 or 4 more ports, that's where mine was clogged.
I have the same carb, when I took it apart my float was filled with gas on one side. I got a new carb to install as it was just as cheap as a rebuild kit however now the carb itself won’t fill with fuel. I installed and it just cranks and cranks and when I took carb back off the bowl was dry
Use the wire inside a bread wrapper. The bread wrapper is covered in flat plastic. Hold a razor blade at an angle and place it against the bread wrapper on a piece of wood that wont move, pull the bread wrapper towards you without moving the razor, it will strip the plastic off the metal bread wrapper wire. The bread wrapper wire will fit inside of all the different size carburetor holes.

There are two very common issues with this carb i've seen, the first is the jet needs opening up (as you sugest) the second is float pin wear, with the bottom off the carb, flip it over so it's upside down and check to see it the float is parallel with the carb body in the shut possition!! if it isn't just bin it and buy another because what it does is seep fuel into the cylinder bore and over time it dilutes the engine oil prematurely wearing the engine internals with out any real sign of an issue.

@@ranflee1 our personal mower is a troybilt with B&S plastic carb with primer bulb and starts up on first pull. The toro I'm working on has the plastic carb but auto choke and even when that chole is close it take 4 or 5 good hard pulls to start it then runs rough. I thinks theres something else wrong but I haven't had that much experience with these new plastic carburetors
Yes , that’s why I said most. The one in this video and others I’ve seen starts first pull. However my new toro also takes 4 pulls ,but runs good once started. My old toro with primer 1st pull. I haven’t figured out why, but haven’t really had time to look into it yet.
Great video. I know how to remove the main jet now. Amazing how these plastic parts last as long as they do. And the trick posted about the choke butterfly was probably useful also I will have to look into that. TWO THUMBS UP my friend. Maranatha
How old is the mower. Could be a fuel issue (possibly running lean) or could be a compression issue. Check plug first. Light brown or tan color = running ok. White= running lean. Black and sooty running to rich.unfortunately most newer carbs have little or no adjustability. But try a good carb cleaning .
I just did my first one of these a couple of days ago. It’s extremely finicky to get the carb off. I ended up removing the top cover, pulling the carb back and removing the bracket that surrounds the carb. I was worried about bending the linkages when by twisting the carb too much. Either way it’s not easy to remove the carb with this design. Cheers
Bruh you can take that carb off with 2 8mm screws and removing the fuel line… take the choke link off first bend forward and pull it out.. then turn sideways and take off the inside linkage.: takes literally 30’seconds with a quarter inch impact… you get good at it like me When you do it for years
Man, this video saved me. It just happened to be the same model/type as my new mower. The carburetor was the same as mine, unlike the other videos that had the silver pan with the screw in the bottom (I dont know what my kind of carburetor is referred to as). Thanks a lot.
Thank you sir so much! This fixed my problem, started on the first pull. My partner and I haven't used the mower since I was stationed in Louisiana, and I was about to throw it away. Thank you!
Easiest to remove top cover with pull string first. Three bolts same size as black bolt on carb. Also, the fuel tank can slide up and out so you can dump old fuel, and will have plenty of room.
Its a very informative video not trying to be rude but every now and then you got away from your camera if it stationary remember you need to stay in view but I did learn something, I have the exact mower but there were 2 pinholes in my float 1 on each side and float was full of gas is that not right?
I appreciate the critique. Always trying to improve, and my video skills do need much improvement. There should not be any fuel in the float. Toss it and replace it. Thanks for the comment.
I must be doing something wrong. I took the plastic carb apart, clean it with cleaner and blew on it. Even used the compressor. Put it back together and still want crank.
Have you checked spark. Also make sure the choke isn’t stuck open. I just did a video on my toro with the same carb. It took many pulls to start it. It’s a fairly new mower. TORO PERSONAL PACE STARTING ISSUES ua-cam.com/video/zOYYJQ8xDoM/v-deo.html
These OEM carbs are 40 bucks a pop.. if you’re having carb issues you can easily clean this carb. It’s easy to take off and the jet set is easy to clean.. but keep in mind once you’re having carb issues the likelihood of it happening again is 90 percent. Just spend the money and replace the damn thing.. replacing is easier than fixing 3 times.. and much less time consuming. Run non ethanol gas that has a year or more shelf life not the crap you get outta the normal Pump down the street
@@ranflee1 I’ve found in my career of small engines that these carbs are easier replaced than repaired due to the then simply being made of plastic. Once they start to have problems it’s more than likely going to continue to have problems in the future.. these carbs on Amazon are 25 bucks.. but I choose to go OEM due to reliability issues. I’ve found this carb and the carb on the twin cam 22 plus hp Briggs carbs are just easier replaced. Edit- stable or mechanic in a bottle are available pretty much everywhere if you cant get ethanol free. But Canned ethanol free gas is also available at Walmart… so
1. empty all tanks and cans at the end of season put it in your car to get rid of it 2. Use a good sealing can, keep the air out = no moisture. 3. Use berrymans or seafoam in the gas along with regular maintenance it'll fire up every year.
What year is this model built in???? I'm finding allot of these mowers on the curb and the carb is clean as a whistle just full of gas almost like it over fills so then it put it back together and runs great.🤔
I really don’t know, it wasn’t that old though. I did it for a friend who allows me to hunt on his property. He did have the bowl of however that’s all he knew to do . This one was definitely clogged.
Urghhh i took out the carborator cleaned it put it back together then gas started leaking out of carborator. So I opened it up and looked carborator and saw a tiny piece under the floater that wasnt in place. So I put this tiny little pencil ✏ looking piece back on floater and then closed it back up and attempted to start. It did not. And I also noticed a tiny bit of smoke coming from silver box towards the front
The 🖊 looking thing is the float needle. Make sure the wire is on the float correctly. The wire needs to go over the tab towards the inside of the float .
I’m sorry, I was thinking of the older style carbs. This one does not have a wire on the needle. Make sure it is in the slot on the float and the float is not just sitting on the needle. But honestly I’m not sure that’s possible. Did you hit anything before this problem? If so you may have sheared the flywheel key. I asked because you mentioned the smoke. It might be indicating a timing issue.
Umm taking the bolts out with a drill or ratchet if there going to strip there going to strip with either tool I understand not putting them back in without a power tool bit taking them out should not be a problem but great video I learned something
I’ve being a mechanic for many years. Have not stripped a single bolt this way. That being said if you use either, go easy cause yes you can strip them especially in plastic. Thanks for the comment.
With out seeing it in person it’s hard for me to give you any direction. But just something you might want to check. Make sure seal between carb and block is in place and not leaking. It should start in one or two pulls.
@@ranflee1 everything is fine haha, will try a new shot today..., funny how these new engines and parts its like they all are made in china hahah, last lawnmower that i had, it was old like 10years or more, and it was great, never had any problems

As far as I know the owner is still using it with no issues. I would suggest if possible use ethanol free gas. Unfortunately where I live , it is a20 mile drive to get it. Even further for my friend who owns the mower.
Please try and keep the camera still. Mount it on a stand and not the same one that you put the parts onto as it jumps every time. Before presenting a first time dismantling process, it may be a good idea to have a practice run.
I think it's a poor design. I shouldn't have to clean this carburetor twice to mow my damn yard. It always works to mow a little more then have to clean it again. I've cleaned my tank, the hose, etc. Still clogging up so easily.
Have to agree , not a great design. Things aren’t made well these days. Are you using ethanol free gas. I do but I have to drive quite a distance to get it.
Thanks for the input. I would like to say that I have repair many types of carbs (from chainsaws to motorcycles and automotive) and there are some that’s this would not be my first course of action. It would be the last resort if soaking and compressed air and carb cleaner didn’t work. In this case the insert is $15-$20 . If it didn’t work , no big loss. That being said ,my buddies mower starts first pull and runs great to this day. At $0 I call that a win.
@@ranflee1 Wasn't meaning to criticise in any way and yes the mower did sound ok at the end of your video. I was just saying that I was always taught that it was a no no!

Yes , that’s why I said most. The one in this video and others I’ve seen starts first pull. However my new toro also takes 4 pulls ,but runs good once started. My old toro with primer 1st pull. I haven’t figured out why, but haven’t really had time to look into it yet.
Maybe this will help. But you said your choke is closed so I don’t know . TORO PERSONAL PACE STARTING ISSUES

Helpful video. Thanks for posting. Just used it today.
Thank you, much appreciated
A to the point video, very helpful with some sound track.
Thank you very much for the kind comment
Great video. I know how to remove the main jet now. Amazing how these plastic parts last as long as they do. And the trick posted about the choke butterfly was probably useful also I will have to look into that. TWO THUMBS UP my friend. Maranatha
Your welcome. Thanks for the feedback
My problem is that the engine is losing power to cut, could it also be that the carburator is clogged or needs to be replaced??
How old is the mower. Could be a fuel issue (possibly running lean) or could be a compression issue. Check plug first. Light brown or tan color = running ok. White= running lean. Black and sooty running to rich.unfortunately most newer carbs have little or no adjustability. But try a good carb cleaning .
i have the same mower, why is gas spewing out of the nozzel that is in the area of the air filter?
Possibly the float is stuck open or the needle seat is not sealing
awesome thank you, never done a plastic one
You’re welcome. nothing to it. There are easy
Good video, thanks, sorted my mower out straight away.
Your welcome. Glad this helped
Cheers
Bruh you can take that carb off with 2 8mm screws and removing the fuel line… take the choke link off first bend forward and pull it out.. then turn sideways and take off the inside linkage.: takes literally 30’seconds with a quarter inch impact… you get good at it like me
When you do it for years
@@johnrion3232 I’ve gotten to the point where I can have the carb off in 30 seconds if I have all the tools in reach 🤣
Man, this video saved me. It just happened to be the same model/type as my new mower. The carburetor was the same as mine, unlike the other videos that had the silver pan with the screw in the bottom (I dont know what my kind of carburetor is referred to as). Thanks a lot.
I’m glad I could help.
Thank you sir so much! This fixed my problem, started on the first pull. My partner and I haven't used the mower since I was stationed in Louisiana, and I was about to throw it away. Thank you!
Your welcome.More importantly Thank you for your service.
How did you get the breather tube attached? It cut right at that point, but that's where I'm having trouble. At 16:10
Even with my baseball mits of a hand I am able to get my fingers on it, however like I said in the video,it’s easier if you remove the shroud.
Sounds great !!😊good job
Thank you
Easiest to remove top cover with pull string first. Three bolts same size as black bolt on carb. Also, the fuel tank can slide up and out so you can dump old fuel, and will have plenty of room.
That’s what I did today
TORO PERSONAL PACE STARTING ISSUES

Run non ethanol gas that has a year or more shelf life not the crap you get outta the normal
Pump down the street
That’s one way to go.also the insert is about $15. As for the non-ethanol , it’s not always available in some places. Thanks for the comment.
But Canned ethanol free gas is also available at Walmart… so
@@johnrion3232 do you have a link for this carb on Amazon? I seem to keep getting wrong one
Thanks, mine was blocked in the same place, works now
Your welcome
Worked exactly as you did it. Thank you
Great to hear!
It's easier to take the top cover off.its 8mm
Yes I would agree. Would go that route next time.
is that ball float supposed to move ? my ports are clean but ,ball float is stuck?
Yes, it needs to drop to allow fuel in.
I just don’t like plastic carbs but they work ok and are very easy to clean
I’m with you on that
Your video was helpful to me!
Thank you!
You’re welcome. I’m glad to help.
That jet piece comes apart more, it a 2 piecer.
I bought the cartridge on eBay or Amazon for a few dollars
THANK YOU!!! I put in new gas, new oil, new spark plug! finally it was this dumb plastic cartridge all gunked up with a beige goo.
You’re welcome, if possibly use ethanol free gas or make sure you drain the fuel when storing for the winter.
1. empty all tanks and cans at the end of season put it in your car to get rid of it
2. Use a good sealing can, keep the air out = no moisture.
3. Use berrymans or seafoam in the gas along with regular maintenance it'll fire up every year.
Great advice.
The best kind of friends!
holy shit, u fixed my mower!! thanks boss
Glad to help.
You look like me I do the same as you do, sometimes my hands are also to big but I fix it, thanks for the nice video
It will only go in one way, just make sure bowl is correct and don’t use screws to pull it down, press it by hand
Great video! Thank you very much!
Your welcome
Urghhh i took out the carborator cleaned it put it back together then gas started leaking out of carborator. So I opened it up and looked carborator and saw a tiny piece under the floater that wasnt in place. So I put this tiny little pencil ✏ looking piece back on floater and then closed it back up and attempted to start. It did not. And I also noticed a tiny bit of smoke coming from silver box towards the front
The 🖊 looking thing is the float needle. Make sure the wire is on the float correctly. The wire needs to go over the tab towards the inside of the float .
Hope you get it working
@@ranflee1 what wire?
I’m sorry, I was thinking of the older style carbs. This one does not have a wire on the needle. Make sure it is in the slot on the float and the float is not just sitting on the needle. But honestly I’m not sure that’s possible. Did you hit anything before this problem? If so you may have sheared the flywheel key. I asked because you mentioned the smoke. It might be indicating a timing issue.
does the float ever need adjusting, howdo you do that ?
No , it’s all plastic. No way to adjust.
Thank you so much! I just fixed my lawn mower
Glad to help
It would be a lot easier to pull carburetor if you take off the cover
That is true
Saved my ass from having to buy a new mower 😂😂 best video out there
Thank you. Makes my day when I hear that it helped someone out.
Thanks!! Big help.
Thanks, this helped me fix my M320.
You are welcome glad this helped
Did everything the same, and it starts after 4th pull and then dies...
You may have to replace the insert or even the carb. Make sure the choke isn’t stuck on. The linkage may be hanging up.
@@ranflee1 checked it up, eveything its fine, bought it brand new last year, didnt even mowe the grass like 5th time with it...
Great video brother.. yeah a very common problem.. hi from the 🇬🇧
Thanks, its an honor to to be notice from Micks mowers . Watch your vids often. Trying to catch up on the industry. Had a part time shop over 35 yrs ago.
@@ranflee1 always on the lookout for other channels mate .. and it was a first class video
Its best to always make sure the fuel tank is super clean or it will stop up once again
Very good advice.
It's also a great idea to install an inline fuel filter and a fuel shut off unless you just enjoy taking a carburetor apart
They'll stop back up a dozen times if you don't install a filter,
Use a small micron screen style inline fuel filter
I've repaired small engines for 50 years plus, so my replies come from experience. If you don't fix a problem completely you get to fix it again
You didn't clean the main jet correctly it come apart again after you remove it
Everything was reassembled correctly and this mower still runs great today . Just saw the owner using it this weekend
Always drain the gas water condensation is a big problem...
If you use ethanol gas yes. But using non ethanol canned 94 octane with fuel treatment can sit in a carb for 2 years and not get stale or watery.. just use good shit
@@johnrion3232 they all run on 89 octane or you burn the the valves moron really just like a car the computers are set for 89 octane gas I worked in parts and on lawn and garden equipment and cars and trucks and snow plows and snow equipment for 30 years sheesh...
Separate the center jet carburetor cleaner and a blow wand...
Thanks
You’re welcome
Awesome 👍👍
Thank you.
thanks for the video!
It will onely go in one way
👍
the problem with this mover and other with the same Carb, after it sits for more than a Week it gums up, you can clean out carb, but it will look clean inside , i have taken my carb off like 15 times ,,,lol Literally 15+ times get annoying after awhile , lol last time i did this i Broke the Governor holder on the Carb, after working my Magic and a piece of Bailing Wire i made a new 1 , lol
As far as I know the owner is still using it with no issues. I would suggest if possible use ethanol free gas. Unfortunately where I live , it is a20 mile drive to get it. Even further for my friend who owns the mower.
@@ranflee1 i have heard of the use non Ethanol gas i will try that
Very nice💥
Hard to see what you’re doing…
Yeah I do realized-that in a lot of the video , my hand was in the way. But I hope there’s enough info to help someone.
It's called the main jet it's the culprit most of the time
Taking the top cover off would have made it a lot easier
I have to agree. But wasn’t to bad anyway
Good job man
Thank you.
Please try and keep the camera still. Mount it on a stand and not the same one that you put the parts onto as it jumps every time. Before presenting a first time dismantling process, it may be a good idea to have a practice run.
Thanks for the advice. Something I have been working on . The cameras I have do not have stabilizers. Need to get one soon.
Never shove a wire through a carburettor jet - that's what I was always taught.
No worries. Wasn’t taken in a negative way. I appreciate anybody’s input. I also have heard that. However I have found through experience that there are many way to accomplish a task. Many tech will use a very small drill bit. I would have too but I don’t have them. This welding tip cleaner works well for this.
Iv used an E guitar string for a long time on all carbs..works great
