Breaking news!!! Per Brett McMurphy, “Big Ten, SEC unlikely to add Florida State if it leaves ACC & ACC survives, sources told @ActionNetworkHQ. Big Ten & SEC don’t want FSU because adding FSU doesn’t make financial sense, no desire to expand & “they’ve been a disruptive partner,” sources said” I said the only way Clemson and FSU would join the Big12 is if the SEC and Big10 denied them which shockingly seems to have happened. This changes everything. If the Big12 can come up with the PE capital I think it is likely that it would be enough in lack of better options to bridge the academic gap and get those schools to join. Will still need to be a significant amount to though to make up for the Academics.
The problem that the west deals with is completely timezone related. Most games end up being later in the day/night when the majority of viewership on the east coast has tuned out.
We aren’t getting FSU or Clemson. There’s no chance considering how prideful they are. Realistically, If we add anyone it’s probably more like Oregon St, Washington St, Memphis, USF, or Uconn But I would LOVE to get them
@@BroncoBleymaier honestly USF and Memphis have the best odds for a Big XII invite and make a lot of sense. Though USF could go to ACC very soon. Oregon St and Washington St are very possible but we’re looking East. And UConn…yeah just their basketball program is why 😂 but again I wouldn’t be mad at adding you guys
@@brandonh5360 I would love USF vs. WVU conference games like the Big East days. Those were always great matchups. and yeah, one survival strategy for the B12 is to take away the ACC's future. Tulane, Memphis, USF would probably accept partial deals in the B12 and it would completely tank the ACC's pipeline
As an academic and an entrepreneur, I disagree with your analysis! Brett Yormark looks at the Big 12 Conference as a business with a portfolio of teams much like a private equities firm would look at portfolio companies. The Big 12 also sees itself as an entrepreneurial venture in the business of entertainment events and not merely as an athletic or academic conference as our unique value proposition. So, the classification of the Big 12 as just another athletic conference is off. The assumptions of using media rights, as though media rights was the only form of revenues, is also off. It is difficult to compare conferences in their capacities to respond to opportunities to engage in the acquisition of additional portfolio investments (other schools) when the strategies being employed are an unfamiliar concept to the sporting press. Is there validity in the rumors? Based on comments made by Commissioner Brett Yormark and others at media days, it is possible that these rumors are true. The catch is...no body is going to know about it until announcements are made. Confirming or denying rumors does not happen until the ink is dried on the contract.
You just backed up everything I said about both the Big 12 and PE 😂. I didn’t say that Big 12 was just another athletic conference, I said that they are not a conference that puts academics ahead of athletics like the PAC12 and ACC did and I meant that as a compliment. I never said TV revenue was the only source of income, I said it is the most trusted and reliable source of income at this present time and the last thing old school Academic institutions like those in the ACC like doing is experimenting with anything new or different if a more trusted and true option is available
In the end it’s all about how much a school can make. It doesnt matter what conference affiliation or historical matchup with regional schools makes the most sense. It’s all about what the TV media expects to get from a viewership and revenue perspective. UCF was invited to the BIG12 just because they have a large market and can grab a lot of market revenue for whoever is broadcasting their games. There is still the idea of academic statue with schools but that is taking a backseat to how much TV revenue schools can make. If Boise was a much bigger market than it is, we would have been invited to a bigger conference a long time ago. It’s all money.
Sorry for the multiple comments, but if academics was a major or even a significant driver of conference affiliation, WAZZU and Oregon State would not have been left out in the cold.
OSU and WSU’s academic ratings are both 59 out of FBS teams. Stanford and Cal are #1 and #2. Academics is exactly why OSU/WSU were left out of the ACC and why they won’t be a top choice in the next round of alignment unless the ACC loss multiple teams
@@BroncoBleymaier No, you are right regarding the ACC, but was just reffering to BIG12 expansion. I dont like to say it but WAZZU and OSU are better academic institutions for the BIG12 than UCF. The fact that UCF is in the BIG12 is just a matter of media market. That is all.
In this new era of conference re-alignment, WAZZU, OSU and Boise should be in the BIG12. There is a complete lack of regard of the west coast schools. At some point when the pendulum swings back ther will need to be a conference in the mountain/pacific timezone that is a part of the P5 or P4 or whatever…
@clenaghen UCF actually has a higher academic rating than every hold over Big 12 team. They are 6th best in the conference overall with the new additions.
Aug 12 FSU is supposed to let ACC the plan to leave . I think the big 10 will offer FSU membership. Clemson will go to SEC. Miami will go to Big 12. North Carolina is in play for SEC and SEC only issue you have to take NC State with them.
FSU made it clear their reasons for wanting to leave were financial, not academic. Would joining the B12 make them more money? I don't think so. They'll want a piece of that SEC or B10 pie. On private equity, it's like selling your soul to the devil. They will offer big bucks but they'll want to control parts of your program they have no expertise in. Scheduling, coaching hires, you name it, they'll be calling the shots.
Their main reason for leaving is financial which I mentioned, otherwise they would just stay with the ACC. But it’s not just about money or the Big 12 would be a serious contender. The conference still has to pass the academic eye test.
To get ahead of any comments of this nature, the statements I made only apply to FSU and Clemson. Once those schools leave for the Big 10/SEC it becomes a very different game for the teams left behind. I still think 4 total teams would need to leave the ACC for the P2 to give the Big 12 a chance to swoop in but once the conference is no longer viable all the academic elitism goes out the window and teams will jump on the nearest life raft like what happened with the PAC12
I doubt they move to the Big-12. The Big-12 probably would love it. Definitely make them closer to the same level at Big10 and SEC. Definitely make a power 3 conference. I know ACC schools have an old way of thinking but money is still king. Also if Florida State and Clemson bolt to Big10 or SEC I think might see Big-12 go after other ACC schools.

@@BroncoBleymaier yeah I wouldn’t mind Boise at all, but I just don’t see them getting an invite before those I listed above

Yes, obsession with regional tv markets which have very little impact on the viewership overall is definitely a driving factor in alignment

Agreed on the trap fall of PE
@scottyclayton2501 but that won’t be enough to draw FSU and Clemson away as is because of academics

Money in the right context is king for the ACC schools.
Am I watching a 20-something whose apparent academic allegiance is to the only FBS program that fails to get ranked in the top Forbes 650 🤔. 🤦
Thank you for proving the point 😂
