I drove 3664 during the 1991 steam festival when she was based at Beaconsfield. Happy days indeed. The dump at Millsite always made grim viewing. Thanks for sharing.
@@steamfreak cool video, 1st time i saw Millsite from the camera view. i can safely assume that none of the locos in that dump yard cannot be restored to functionality, or is there lol, was just hoping. i also enjoyed the trip through the various stations, nice scenery along the route
I thoroughly enjoyed coming along for this ride. Long live steam locos! Do whites no longer take local trains at all unless it is a special steam excursion like this ride. I certainly saw no whites on the platforms.
The first steam train I rode on was pulled by a class 24. It was between George and Knysna around 1980. The scenery, of course, was slightly more beautiful.
Are all those electric locos in the yard at Johannesburg stored or are they still in service? Are all those steam locos hoping to be restored some day?
I believe that most of those electric locos are stored. Most of those steam locos have been allocated to various preservation groups. Some sadly will be scrapped, others used for parts, but others will steam again!

Yeah I drove 3664 a few times, great little locos. Millsite was interesting, and good in a way that those locos still exist. But still grim...

Thanks mate!
She’s going tjoef fast, I wish we still had working Class 24s in the Durban area.
They are a fantastic loco!
Good video brings back memories of Pretoria in the steam age.
Thanks, was great to see!

Maybe 1% of passengers or less would be white I think.
I love trains .....specially friends of the rail.
A pity Friends of the Rail are gone now. That was a big part of my life.
@@steamfreak yea same... Basically grew up with them.... But wonder steam trains are at it

The Knysna line is quite spectacular! I hope we get to see it open again soon!
