    Great Historic Review. Every new building requires this type of fire system. This is a good overview for the newly informed.

    One of my favorite passions while working Security was learning about fire systems. One mall I worked at had actual Fire Life Safety guys that were full time, they were a huge help. As the years go by sometimes branch lines get installed (retail suites are always changing size and location) so System 10 may now service a different suite or area than in years prior as an example. I loved draining and filling systems. I got good at panels as well. I'm usually the only non "expert" that can disable devices, figure out if a waterflow sensor is acting up, heck even filling a system correctly (if you leave too much air in a wet system you can trigger false alarms etc). That being said, I only have experience with wet systems so I still have a ton more to learn. I think I might go into the Fire Life Safety field!

      You should do it! I was a security director and learned all about the trade from the engineers in the building and the contractors that came in to work. After proving my competency and good work ethic they picked me up and its been amazing. Life changing

    Retrofitting Sprinklers is difficult or costly. Think out of box or this case out of house. Aesthetic pvc conduit maybe appearing like trim or downspout on exterior walls connected to wall mounted sprinklers. Water released into exterior pipe once smoke or heat detector triggers.

    • @stuartlloyd2861
      @stuartlloyd2861  5 років тому +1

      neat idea, but cpvc pipework for sprinklers needs to be listed/approved by a test lab like UL/BRE/FM/VdS etc. and listed cpvc pipes have limitations around being exposed.
      Another challenge is preventing pipework from freezing which may break the pipe or impair the system if plugged with ice. Trace heating and lagging is not cheap, needs maintenance and has some running expense added to it.

    What kind of pipe use for water distribution in sprinkler system its thickness and gauge?

    • @Familyactionteam
      @Familyactionteam 4 роки тому +1

      The most common pipe used for sprinkler system is black steel and the branch lines that usually have the sprinkler heads on them the thickness of the pipe is schedule 40 and for the main pipes that's Supply those branch lines is called the main and usually that pipe is called thin wall and its scheduled 10 thickness

    • @Familyactionteam
      @Familyactionteam 4 роки тому +1

      Schedule 40 is the thicker pipe and they make it thicker so you can use a pipe threading machine to put threads on the pipe and then attach the fitting. Thin wall pipe is too thin and you cannot threat it so therefore you put a Groove in the end of the pipe and you and use a special coupling called a Victaulic coupling and a rubber gasket to connect those two pieces of pipe

    • @currbag
      @currbag 4 роки тому

      Depends on spec of job. Customers with money will install sch.40 mains and branches.....most places will install sch.10 mains and branches.

    Yeah but how do you turn off the sprinklers once they start? Especially the ones connected to the town water supply. It's not like they're going to run out of water. So how do you shut off the sprinklers?

    • @stuartlloyd2861
      @stuartlloyd2861  5 років тому +1

      Whitney, great question - each sprinkler system will cover an area of the building from a valve station. This valve station or riser as they are also called has a shut off valve just below the alarm valve.
      Think of it just like your cold water supply at home, the pipe has a valve in the street, it enters the building and there is another valve just before the alarm check valve and any sprinklers.
      Remember a typical sprinkler will discharge 60 litres or 12 gallons of water per minute, most fires are controlled by less than 6 sprinklers, often only 1 or 2, contrast this with a fire hose that outputs 1500 litres per minute nd is not located just above the fire and needs the fire service to turn up and start fire fighting, which can be around 10 minutes after the fire starts, so a sprinkler is more water efficient and quicker operating, with less damage from fire and water if one occurs.

      Konrad Schneider no graphics line up with the satellite pictures, they are outlines of countries or areas which jump out from the globe.

    Why doesnt any water come out if the glass valve of the sprinkler is destroyed by physical impact and not by heat?

      Water is normally discharged whenever a sprinkler is broken or set off by heat, except for a dry system which is charged with air, this is to avoid frost damage, air will discharge first quickly followed by water - However I sense you are referring to a Pre-Action system, these have special control valves that only release water into pipes after a set of detectors sense a fire, normally before a sprinkler would activate - and therefor if pipe or sprinkler was damaged, these valves would still hold back the water as no fire was detected. This is explained just after the 7 minute mark in the video.

      Is it your own business or you work for a company ? Because I’m thinking of starting a firefighting system business here in MENA region.
