In 2018 all of Audis SQ5s had fake exhaust that pointed to the ground under the car. For the release of the new body style in 2021 Audi wised up and included the $1,400 option for real metal exhaust tips that are piped all the way through. But is it worth the extra? Does it sound any different? What do they look like compared to the standard exhaust? Well let’s take a look and you be the judge!

Can't wait to get my 2022 SQ5 in about a month! I included the Sound Enhancing Exhaust option despite it is utterly pricey while it should be standard, but after hearing the difference here I'm glad I got it included, thanks for this video!

Fake or real exhaust tips have absolutely no bearing on EPA ratings. It doesn't matter if the exhaust comes out of 2 holes facing down behind the bumper or out of 4 holes facing straight back. The exhaust comes out of 2 pipes from the engine and through the catalytic converter regardless.
Audi thinks that most SQ5 owners don't want dirty exhaust tips. That's it.
I agree it dosent make any sense. But that is the reason even Kia’s and new trucks exhaust points down. The idea originated in CA, someone there thought that would be a good idea for the cars moving at slow speeds in traffic.
But yes, that is also a reason it was offered like this. But in Europe, they are more widely piped through.
I own a corvette Z06 and dirty exhaust tips are the norm lol

Yep - I previously had a 2017 SQ5 and I cleaned my tips every week! Jusr part of the care and feeding of the beast!
The black sq5!! Real exhaust tips. The option you speak of, is that available online to select? I don’t recall seeing it while building the sq5. Or is that something the dealer has to select? What about the black rings and black exhaust tips?
It is not available online. It is something that a dealer would have to tell you about. And the black tips are. Dealer installed accessory

They both pretty much sound the same! The only reason the real tips sounds better is because it's pointed at the camera and not on the floor like the fake ones. Paying $1400 for a $50-60 slip on tip and a 30-40 mins. of labor is crazy! I got an Akrapovic Carbon for around $200.
Those are a great option too!
The sport exhaust option also comes with a different resonator setup. If you look at the corresponding generation of S5 coupes or sedans they have the same option available but both the regular and sport exhausts are functional tips not fake ones. If you get the chance to hear the difference the sport exhaust system does sound better.

The real ones obviously sound better, and it’s outrageous to have to spend anything to get just the tip. Audi should have known better than to pull off fake tips…

@Emily you should know better. They reduced the cost of those exhaust tips and offered it as an option so only those who cared for them had to pay. It was not for EPA reasons, but they did a survey with the owners and the owners did not like dirty exhaust tips. Now you you can be wiser too

Do an X-Pipe (resonator delete) on it and you will be very happy with the outcome
Fake exhaust should be outlawed on all vehicles. Manufacturers stop doing fake ones, just don't have tips or use real ones please!

Why? Just make it an option. I like not having to try to keep my tips clean. It's a losing effort.

@emilytheaudinerd I’ve seen the sport tips installed on an SQ5 with fake tips and then the muffler and tips become separate pieces, with the tips clamped on to the original pipes that have been cut. Do you know if when they come out of the factory with sport tips, they’re separate pieces as well?
The real one should be standard not an optional .

From the factory it costs $1,400. But it depends dealer to dealer the installed price if you are getting it done after the car has been delivered

That is a great question. I know it’s made specifically for 2021+ It would be something where you’d have to buy the part and see if it fits.

They would be able to help. One thing I just thought of is that the rear bumper is different. For the B9.5 it has removable spots for the exhaust tips. The B9 (your 2018) does not.

In Europe it’s much worse. In the TDI engine you can’t change to real exhaust…

I am considering for my incoming car but I don't want an annoying drone. Not sure what to do.
It does NOT have a drone. Especially when you put it in comfort to close the valves

I have a 2021 sq5 with the fake tips, i found black optic exhaust tips which are the real ones. Will audi install for me if i buy the part from audi? And how do they install do you know , cut & weld?
You need the “hot pipes”. You will need to talk to your dealer if they will install them for you.
I have a 2022 A6 C8 sline, I seen there is after market tips and diffuser, would this void audi warranty. Or does Audi have a genuine upgrade ? In Australia
I would talk to a local dealership near you to see what your options are. I am not sure what is available in Australia.

You cannot switch to this exhaust. The Q5e has a different exhaust and bumper

I have the 2018 SQ5 Prestige, do you think that the fake exhaust can be replaced for the real exhaust tips? I wish someone would give me some advice on this. I was checking out the ABT aftermarket package but it's kind of pricey. Any ideas?
It has to be the 2021 or newer model year
Do they have air suspension?
If you have the S-Sport package then yes you will have air suspension
Thankyou Emily! My wife is in the market and the Mercedes’ glc amg43 was too stiff of a ride for her. She currently leases a Lincoln aviator reserve 2 package with all the bells and whistles and the vehicle has been in the shop at least 5 times already so no more ford products in my house

They are not. The real exhaust is also known as the "Hot Pipes"
