I know all the other " tests" I've seen where done on trails specifically approved by Subaru at some media event and in most cases modified to fit the car.
Seriously, youve either got paid for channels, or hater channels that put some retard driver behind the wheel who tries to head on a 3 ft wide by 2 ft tall boulder then wonders why 9.5" of clearance wont handle it, while they drive around it in comparison vehicles
I just rented one of these in Anchorage and drove it to Hatcher Pass, Talkeetna and finally Denali National Park. I stayed in a Cabin just past Healy and the drive up the mountain to get there was very steep and rugged and required a 4x4. This Outback made it up and down that mountain several times with no issues whatsoever. I put about 800 miles on it in 3 days and had a blast!
This video brought me to the subscribe button. The Off-Road footage is clean, pure, and high quality, with no terrible music overlaying it. Commentary is saved for after the clips, so you can hear every detail in the video. You are an artist my friend! Looking forward to more videos from you.
I have this exact car, love it!!!! Crazy how much mud you can sling and the weird looking composites somehow keep the dirt off the paint. Kudos for the design team.
No talking, no introduction, no opinions. Just demonstration and visual confirmation that it can in fact run a course. I dont care about your opinion about the comfortable seats or the fact is has extra plastic protection on the front, I can see that. No bullshit, none. Just doing. Thats what I like. My man. +1
I knew these trails looked familiar! I’ve been out there with my Crosstrek and can say you are 100% for real about that hill. It’s a beast, but it was nothing for your Wilderness. Hope to see you out on the trails soon!
I bought a 2022 Outback limited with no intention to hit the back roads. It's for the snow storm's in New England. But I do enjoy you doing it, have fun be safe.
These vehicles are made for videos like this...my Land Rover as well, however, people prefer to keep them in parking lots. Good to see people are using true capabilities of what these vehicles were designed for.
Read an article a while back (can't remember the exact details) where some lady took her brand new jeep into deep water and ended up with a serious bill and I think she tried to get Jeep to pay because or something because it should if been able to handle it since it Jeep advertises it's off road capabilities and I think Jeep said nice try. You took it into serious deep water or something like that.
Well done. Other reviewers have the drivers view from inside of the vehicle which tells you nothing on what's going on outside. Or they have a distance view from a drone which doesn't tell you what's going on either. Nice that you show good shots of the terrain, what the wheels are doing and a description of the situation.
Being a 4runner owner, came to Washington state for work and got a Subaru forester sport as a rental. I’m well impressed with the capabilities of this vehicles. Thinking about going back home and trade in my Lexus 🙈
When I got my 2020 outback XT I put Yokohama Geolanders on it first thing. 2 years later and it's stock. The outback has a big nose and back end. Offroad can be a challenge. Love to see some one putting it through its paces most people take the easy road because it's a new car or a loaner from the dealership.
We just purchased a 22 Outback Wilderness, same color! We are going to Big Bend National Park in a couple of weeks! We are taking the Subie stock, but will be modding it after I sell my Mustang GT next spring. We are going to Big Bend Octane Fest, bringing our GT500 and the Subie to go play on the trails. I am pretty excited, we always had jeeps, but the Subie is much more comfortable and I am getting to old to rock climb! We live in South Louisiana, so I am very curious to see where there is to go in Texas, it is next door to us! Great video!
Yes! I love this little forest in Bastrop. I took my Forester wilderness there and man did Subaru win with these cars. I do want a outback wilderness next though.
Thanks for making this channel! I just took my OBW out today. With less than 500 miles on it, I almost ripped off the rear bumper on a rock ledge when my "rock ramp" I built collapsed and the shallow departure angle bit me in the ass literally! I have some minor repairs to do, and I need to get a lift!
@@tj6111 I'm looking into the Ironman lift, which on the Wilderness comes out to be about 1.2". The other option is the LP Aventure 2" which is a true 2" on the Wilderness.
@@tj6111 LP is like $700. It’s a spacer lift made from stainless steel. The Ironman kit is a full shock and spring combo so it’s more like a proper lift which is why it’s a lower lift on the Wilderness. It’s a 2” lift for a regular OB but since the OBW is like 0.8” higher, you end up with about 1.2” lift. The end result is 10.7” of ground clearance on stock size tires. You’ll get another 0.5” going to 245-65-17 tires
Im in Katy with a new OBX. Thanks for sharing! I'm going to try those trails. I know somewhat where it's located. I agree about the skid plate. It's like an aluminum can. I am looking forward to a bumper guard. I use my OBX mostly for paddle boarding destinations and grocery getting, at the moment. I know it's much more capable.
The wilderness 2022 comes already factory with a 1" lift. Did you add an additional 2" or just 1" to say its lifted to a total of 2" overall? Also what size wheel and tire you have? What brand?
Excellent work on the trails. On the skid plate you are correct, it is made out of plastic. By the way here is some good information for you that I have verified with the General Manger and the Service Manager Carson City Nv. I asked the General Manger about the 10 Year WARRANTY on the transmission, his reply was , what??. He called the Service Manager on speaker phone so I could listen, he asked him if the Transmission has a 10 year Warranty on it ? The Service Manager checked on his computer and replied Yes it does have a 10 Year Warranty. Hope you don't get stuck AAA would have fun pulling you out.
Not bad for a outback, love my legacy outback 2000, 180k miles and counting, head gaskets need replaced though I have gotten up steep gravel driveways with slushy snow with the suburu, something a car wouldn't be able to handle real well.
I have a noob question. This thing can wade thru mud right, how come the exhaust pipe is designed facing downward facing the ground? I was hoping it would be longer and atleast facing upward on the side or back, designed discreetly
Great videos. I have an Outback Wilderness in Tx too. I’m having issues with where to locate my 6 pin receiver for my trailer brakes. I don’t want to ruin ground clearance. Otoh, if it’s too close to the hitch receiver, I cannot lock it. Can you show me some pictures of your hitch receiver setup?
Hey there, just curious after having the outback lifted 2.8 inches for this long have you noticed any issues with the cvs or anything? I’m wanting to lift my forester wilderness closer to 3 inches just not sure what it can handle !

Who did your lift? I'm interested in lifting my Outback but don't know who/what type of mechanic would do a good job. Tire/brake place? Transmission place? Or does it just depend? Thanks for any ideas.
@Wilderness in Wilderness What size tires do you have? I put 245/65R17 BFG K02 on my stock wilderness and they clear, I'll be it barely but they don't rub! Cool to see what you can actually do with this thing, I'm still a little gunshy on where I'll actually take mine
Have you thought about getting a winch for it? From the looks of it, you wheel mostly trails, but Harbor Freight has the Badlands winch and they're supposedly very solid winches for a fairly cheap price. Better to need it and not have it than need it and not have it. I have a Rugged Ridge winch on my JK on 37s, that i built to crawl, but haven't used it for more than pulling out my buddies, thankfully
