      @@19n05k83 , have you seen any Polish text? This unreadable mess? =)) The problem of Latin alphabeth is that it mismatches the phonetics of many of the Slavic languages. Serbian and Croatian happen to be lucky with having rather simple phonetics that can use the Latin alphabeth (but nevertheless they still had to invent some letters). For example, Russian becomes unreadable when written in Latin.

    Hey, may I ask a question: For what reasons did Serbians adopt the Latin script and when it occurred?
    Was it in order to adjust to the Western Europe? (maybe the EU for which Serbia is a candidate)
    Or maybe it was during Yugoslavia times, when there was a common state with Slovenia and Croatia, which use the Latin script?
    Which alphabet is used - for example - on the street signboards?

    I'm a little disappointed 🙁 I really want to learn Serbian and I thought Cyrillic was the only way to write it. I'm surprised Latin script is used too and it actually confuses me more 😐 I'm Greek and we only use the Greek alphabet. Sometimes you can see Greek written with Latin letters mainly used by the new generation and it's very sad, because this is how the language could end up dead. Maybe it's not the case in Serbian and I hope I can learn both Cyrillic and Latin without trouble 🤞🏻 Thank you for all the videos. They're very helpful 💕

      Well, we had one illusion called "communism* and other called "yugoslavism"... therefore we have two alphabets. But, if I managed to learn latin, old jewish, old slavic and old greek alphabet - our two scripts will not be a problem for you. :)

      Maybe it's sad that young Greeks use latin, but it's probably just natural evolution, it's pretty hard to exist when you have different alphabet than rest of the world.

    The only 3 reasons why you'd wanna learn the serbian cyrillic script is:
    1) To read some official governmental or legal documents
    2) To show respect for the language
    3) To flex that you can write in another writing system
    Practically you can study Serbian without almost any problems even if you just write it in the latin script.

    Can someone tell me why "X" in Cyrillic has an "H" sound when in Latin, used in the West, it's just "H" and "X" is pronounced "eks". I can see that there are still a myriad of countries that still use the "X" as "H" yet "H" is pronounced "N". It be curious to know how things changed so much over time with the West vs the East.

    • @collared
      @collared Рік тому +1

      in serbian the sound x makes is considered 2-3 sounds, depending on the word. for an example, "fax machine" would be "faks mašina", some younger people might say "fax mašina" but this is not phonetically correct. X-looking letter being H, and H being N is only true in cyrillic. in the latin script, x doesn't exist, and h is h.
      the difference in pronunciation of the letter "x" in cyrillic and latin scripts is due to historical and linguistic evolution, with each script reflecting the unique phonetic characteristics of the languages they represent, resulting in variations in the way "x" is pronounced across different regions, languages and scripts. as of why H is N all i can say is, thats how its always been, across other Cyrillic-writing countries/languages . H likely comes from Greek letter eta. its looks became H, while it's pronunciation became the letter И (pronounced ee)

    There is no Serbian latin script. Serbs use the Croatian latin script called Hrvatska gajica created by the Croat Ljudevit Gaj as a national script for the Croats. During communist Yugoslavia in 1954 the Croat latin script and the Serbian ciryllic script were made "equil" (agreement of Novi Sad - Новосадски договор из 1954 год. Равноправност писма). So from 1954 Croat latin script was introduced in Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Hercegovina and North-Macedonia. Slovenians lacking their own national script adopted the Croat one. So today Serbs use Hrvatska gajica, Croatian national latin script.

      the Đ in the "croatian script" was created by Đuro Daničić
      . A serbian philologist and linguist, and the gaj latim script is just a drunk czech script.
      There is no "Croatian" latin script.
      Just "serb-croat" latin script.
      There is Serbian original script, the cyrillic.
      You, Croat, never had a nation, you were just a Hungarian servant.
      While the Serbs were independent and had their own identity, church and history.
      There is not even a real Croatian thing, it is just a theft of Italian, Serbian and Czechoslovakian culture.
      what's next? say the nikola tesla is a pure Croatian Aryan-Visigoth?
      Ljudevit Gaj stated in his works that he was inspired and took what he could from the source of Vuk Karadzic, the Serbian language and serb culture, to create the """Croatian language""".
      the Vienna Literary Agreement states that the Serbian language will be the standard for southern Slavs (bosnia-croatia-serbia).
      you just write a latinized serbian
      so today you are just a catholic serb... just another little wolf of Vuk Karadzic

      Side note Shtokavian (which you're probably using in your day to day life if you're from Southern Dalmatia or Slavonia) is a Serbian dialect, if you wanna be an actual Croat speak Kaykavian or better yet Chakavian.

      *Laughs in Japanese* Trust me, you would regret saying that after dealing with Japanese script. Due to having three scripts to MASTER. Hiragana and Katakana are easy, but the Kanji bomb is where the real HELL begins.

      @Serbon Resurrected No, I am just an American learning Japanese, but just making a statement of a joke. "Laughs in Japanese"... Was a direct reference to the writing system. Cyrllic script looks pretty straight forward compared to the worst use of Chinese characters. Chinese characters in Japanese is like decoding two languages, ONE dialect. You're dealing with historical chinese pronouncations + historical japanese + modern Japanese.... Kanji is astrocious and a blessing Japanese. If didn't have kanji. You would have no-consistient meanings when writing stuff down. How are you supposed to know the difference between death, four, poem, and someone's butt.

    • @MaoRatto
      @MaoRatto 2 роки тому

      @Serbon Resurrected =X That's pretty straight forward, Japanese is just constant going through hoops as you're stuck with 54-58 Hiragana/Katakana characters. 1 sound per character and including the historical hiragana and historical katakana, or the V's ( typically you will rarely use it, but it's pronounced as B+vowel, but used to help represent the spelling of foriegn language words ) The Kanji is where all of the HELL starts.
