I'm not black, but I can say for sure, you've been a huge inspiration for me, and a whole generation of people who love tech. You're a big reason of why I even started making videos in the first place, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Keep being a role model 👊
As a 16-year-old Black and Latino kid interested in tech, you are one of my biggest role models. You are not just a great Black creator, you're a great creator who happens to be Black. Keep being awesome.
@@SEBA005 I am well aware that "Latino" is an ethnicity, not a race. I too am frustrated with how the term "Latino" is often used, as it is commonly said in a way that attempts to hide or obscure the complex multicultural backgrounds of an individual. For example, let's say someone with Puerto Rican ancestry is 20% Spanish (European), 25% Indigenous Taíno, and 55% African. Let's also say that when asked what the person's race is, they simply say that they're "Puerto Rican" or "Latino". The problem with this response is that it is often said consciously or subconsciously by black Latinos to obscure their African background and to not associate themselves with the black community, due to the rampant anti-blackness within the Latino community. Another way the term Latino is negatively used is amongst white Hispanics. Many white Hispanics often claim to be separate from the white race because they are "Latino" or "Hispanic." This doesn't make sense, however, as Caucasian people can have a background that is Spanish, Irish, German, or Ukranian, and still be white, due to them being both phenotypically European and having a largely European ancestry. This sort of false delineation that certain White Hispanics make is negative because claiming not to be a part of the white community as a white individual actively ignores the benefits and privileges that they have, and further spreads the nonsensical stereotype that the Latino community is separate from that of the White, Black, Asian, or Indigenous races. To put it simply, being Latino only means that you come from or your ancestry is from a Latin American country. Your race can be Black, White, Indigenous, Asian, a mix of a few, or all of them. Because of this, anybody regardless of skin color can be Latino. But, because of the ignorance around the subject, and because the majority of America has a specific view of what a "Latino" looks like, I choose to separate "Black" and "Latino" when discussing the topic of my race.

Marques, you were rewarded for being the creator of the decade, and not the black creator of the decade. Your words are importants, thank for having the courage to let them out. You're inspiring.
Not going to speak for him but i believe the thing that he is saying is not whether he got the rewards as the best black creator golfer UF player its wether he got those rewards bc they were looking for someone black to give the positions and awards to as a virtue signal
@@zacharylancon1126 And you're totally right. I was referring to his words saying "instead of just being one of the best black creators, I wanted to be one of the best creators.", but regardless of the intention of the shorty awards or the sub counts, he is, without a doubt, indeed one of the best creators of this platform.
Marques, I’m a white 63 year old man living in New Zealand, who came here from South Africa in the late 1980’s. I couldn’t stand racism then, and I can’t stand it now … in fact any type of bias based on FEAR. You are such a good role model for anybody, from any country in the world, and I know that you will be making a difference way outside of the areas you are interested in. The world needs more people like you.
I can't believe I am just now seeing this video 2 years later! I have been following you for several years...quietly, but mostly because you're a true inspiration as well as a breath of fresh air. Just watching you grow and mature in appearance and knowledge has been remarkably amazing. You have reached an outstanding pinnacle in your accomplishments and I expect there is much more to come as more people become aware of you. I commend and congratulate you for the success you have achieved in spite of. Keep striving for excellence, as you have done tremendously well. Your imprint on the World speaks volumes!! 🙏🏾
What's crazy to me is that in all my time watching you, I have never once even thought about you as a black creator. Only as a consistent high level tech reviewer/enthusiast. I believe the saying that we judge ourselves harsher than anyone else can be applied to this point. Although you may see yourself in this light when you go to events, please keep in mind that the majority of people present are not thinking in this way. Its easy to get caught up in our own self perception and lose sight of how others may actually perceive us. You deserve every bit of success in your life, and not because of your skin color, but because you are an incredible and inspiring person.
as a white boy that grew up in inner city detroit in the 80s, and have since lived most my life outside of an all-black community, my experience is that we as a nation don't spend enough time together and getting to know each other. the more you do, the more you see each other as brothers and sisters, all striving for essentially the same things. i know things can get a lot deeper than that, but for now, keep up the great work, MB!
You are a white MAN. Also, spending time together is great, but let's not neglect... putting criminals in jail either? Like the BLM looters for example...
@@DrewPAXUM no shit but guess who stops other people from getting those things? White folks. You're striving for those things without other obstacles. Everywhere black people go there's white people trying to stop them collectively from closing the racial wealth gap. You want success, we want to stop being the #1 target for hate crimes. We got two different things we are striving for buddy
I saw this video only today.. I noticed it's almost 3+ year old video.. I never saw you as a black tech reviewer.. I only look at you as an awesome tech reviewer.. 3 years old but this video still makes sense in many ways.. 30 years down the line, it'll make sense.. I'm 40 years old, from India.. you are a great tech reviewer and a UA-cam celebrity.. keep the music running marques.. you are simply awesome..
I'm just gonna say it as simple as I can. Ever since I discovered your channel, I have considered you the best Tech UA-camr. Period. The quality of your content is simply amazing and it talks by itself! Congratulations for your work man, I really hope to keep watching your content for a long time.
Preach. When I was beginning to learn English, MKBHD is one of the very few channels that I watch because of his voice clarity and was very articulate in explaining. I could understand him perfectly while I struggled to understand other channels. Thank you for your videos man.
Dude you're THE tech guy Whenever I'm interested in a piece of tech, my first thought was not "Is there a reliable review video for this?" but instead "Is there an mkbhd video for this?".
I'm a white guy from an ordinary background & my wife is Black. I married her because she is beautiful, nice & well educated. Never given a cr@p about colour. You're the best tech reviewer on YT.
You’ve always struck me as a very articulate and accomplished individual, measured and level-heard too. Your very fair, wise and beautiful words here just make that more and more apparent and real. Thanks very much for taking the time to speak to us in this way. And sorry it took me so long to come across this particular video of yours!
i hope nobody has ever thought of you as their favourite black creator. i think of you as “cool guy who reviews phones and computers and gets to drive nice cars”. just a great guy and creator end of.
Yeah I agree. He's my favourite tech youtuber with Linus. I want to live in a world where people don't support or hate people for their skin. Only personalities and skills are relevant.
Watching this video is honestly the first time I've ever thought about the colour of your skin. I have only ever seen you as an incredible creator and been in awe of your ability to do the things you're passionate about to such a high level with zero ego. In other words exactly the sort of role model people of all ages, skin colours and genders need. You are moving the needle in the best possible way and are a true inspiration.
So you are so evolved that you didn't even notice the color of his skin. I'm wondering, do you not note a person's height? Weight? Gender? There is absolutely nothing wrong with noticing the color of one's skin. The problem, of course, is not in noticing the superficial attributes of a person; it's in making prejudicial assessments based on those attributes. But maybe that is what you meant. I only point this out because I have heard very racist people attempt to demonstrate, in the chosen crowd, that they are so colorblind, they didn't notice a person's skin color. When talking about a person, they may say something, "Oh he's black? I didn't notice the whole time." Nine times out of 10, this is a racist posing.
@@boxsterman77 I live in the Caribbean and very few people here actually see a person's skin color as a significant feature, so most of the time, people don't even notice whether a person is black or white. In fact, many people here get very surprised when they see how Americans see so obsessed with race
@@boxsterman77I’m sure you didn’t mean anything bad here sir. But I don’t know why that reply sounded a bit rude. May be it’s just me. Have a great day.
You've always been my best tech creator Marques! Never thought about your skin color, religion, accent, race. I've always seen you as a human that creates the best quality videos possible. You're the best Marques! Never stop providing great videos.
Can we take a moment to recognize that this dude has interviewed Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Sundar Pichai and the late Kobe Bryant all before he turned 25. Man, you have earned your place, race or no. Respect
Didn't know he's younger than 25. I'd soon be 25, damn, I've done nothing compared to him. Looking at what MKBHD has made of himself, by himself is just wow.
I am a 40 something man and I have to say, I have always looked up to you, you have achieved so much, you are respected around the world and most of all, you come across as a really nice caring person. I guess this will get lost in the sea of comments (rightly so to be fair) but keep on keeping on.
I never understood how anybody can look at a human being and only see the color of their skin, or hair, or any part of their looks. This is something that is so deeply alien to me, it is unfathomable how racism is so prevalent of any level of the society. I’m with you, and I hope nowadays you feel much more free.
Thank you for your bravery and for refusing to look away. Many people fear losing subscribers or money or brand deals or whatever else it may be, so they say nothing. Kudos to you for loving yourself and your community enough to take a stand. You will continue to grow and thrive because of the way you are.
I am so frustrated to see people compare this with Hongkong. In HK cases, it is the mainlanders being beaten up and killed by the HKers on the street. How can they say this and compare with the livelihood of black communities in USA. George Floyed was tortured and killed in the same way as mainladers being killed and tortured in HK😭😭😭
How is this tough? He's literally talking about a world that doesn't exist and struggles he obviously doesn't face, because he's one of the biggest tech UA-camrs of all time.
it’s crazy because you’re not even just “one of the best POC tech reviewer channels” on youtube. you’re literally the TOP. in general. and that means a lot. you’ve sorta normalized someone who’s not white to be one of the top tech content creators, and it shows in how people never mention you being black but rather just that you’re one of the most popular channels. That’s a huge huge achievement. It’s about damn time that content creators and talent are recognized for just being the best, not the “best black” or best poc. You, Dave, and Justine are the only 3 tech product review channels I really watch. Justine is white but she’s a woman, and as a woman I just love watching her but she’s amazing in general. Dave is Asian (Korean I think?) and as a fellow Asian American, I also love watching Dave but also he’s just one of the best! y’all are all pioneers and I hope you know that. Because most people aren’t pointing out that you’re black, dave’s asian, and justine is a woman. Y’all are just simply the best tech channels on youtube.
white 16 year old kid here. i never looked at you as the "black tech youtuber", you have always just been the best tech youtuber and i look up to you man.
Hey Marques, seeing this now 3 years later! Your openness and directness here is inspiring, thank you for making this video, it's like "of course" but still it takes courage not all of us have. I have watched your videos on and off for years, and what struck me was your intelligence, excellent judgement on tech issues (what's good, what's important), your cheerfulness and gentle sense of humor, the thoughtful production and great organisation of your videos, and all the useful information I have gleaned. If I need to know the latest on a product I search in general but also look to see if you have done a review as I know I can trust it. The color of you skin is just there, as in "oh that's interesting, wonder what his story is- with that way he has, must have great parents! " Anyway that's from an older white guy, very concious of the polar opposite: of often benefitting from white male privilege (like with encounters at a border or with the police). I have lived in lots of different countries however and one thing I have found to be true everywhere: if I treat someone with respect, if I can genuinely find that in my heart, as my brother or sister, there is an excellent chance they will respond to me in a very positive way. Zen Buddhists say we are all Buddha, we are all already enlightened, which just means we are just ourselves: just we haven't realized it yet! (and once we do, then we keep on forgetting it). But that insight is everywhere: in our toothbrush, in our tiredness, in our impatience, in our joy and fear and laughter. And in our favorite (or least favorite) tech! For me I just put a new battery in my Mac so I am in a good mood!!!
Very enjoyable video. I am an 80 year old white male who grew up in the segregated South. When I was a small boy my father introduced me to a friend of his on the Main Street of a small Southern town. Daddy said it was his boyhood friend. I shook the hand of the old black man who had tipped his hat and called my father ""Cap'n". Walking away I throughly examined my hand. My friend Freddie had said that touching a person of color would turn my hand black. I have come a long way since then and believe we as Americans have. TodayI have a great granddaughter who is black. But what you are taught as a child and the culture that shaped you as a child cannot be changed by the flip of some kind of mental switch. It takes time and desire to change and prayer.
We all came to his channel for tech content in the first place after all, I don’t see how color and race is still relevant in 2020, but I guess people just have to care
I am a 56 year old Black Male, former Silicon Valley techie, with three sons that are college graduates, I certainly understand some of your dilemmas. You always display and handle yourself with dignity, always have current knowledge of technical subject matters, and because you show a no nonsense approach to your business, you inspire me. Being the best always bring detractors. Thanks for showing what loving your occupation can do. Stay blessed!!!
I'm a white dude, and Marques is the most amazing and kind youtuber in the whole of UA-cam, he respects everyone's opinions, I don't even have words on how to explain him on how much of a good person he is, I've been watching him since a long long time, he is a very kind and chill dude, keep it Marques.
"I wanted to be one of the best creators". You've accomplished that. I always go to you first for any kind of tech news simply because of the quality of your videos. You ARE the best creator when it comes to the tech world.
Hey Marques! To me you’re the best tech reviewer ever, I first watched your videos about Nothing phones and the way you explain every single detail about each specs, it has helped made a decision which phone I should be getting based on my needs, so thank you. I have never thought of you as a black UA-camr. Your skin has nothing to do with how you treat people, you are so so respectful whenever you do an interview with celebrities, no arrogant tone whatsoever in any of your vids. I also like watching your gestures while you are speaking. 🙂
you can't just change the impression of people who were victimized or terrorized by the acts of someone who are different and can be identified by a color different from his/hers
Dude, you’ve always been one of my favorite creators on UA-cam for years. I never buy a tech product without checking to see if you’ve reviewed it first. Standing up and speaking out is huge and just add to the greatness of the person behind the camera. Thanks taking a stand for what is right!
Same! Every tech purchase I've bought in the last 5+ years, I've searched for Marques' review first. He knows his stuff and I really appreciate his truthful good and bad opinions about the products. Thank you Marques for your video about your personal thoughts and experiences with racism. I will continue to learn how to be anti-racist, speak up, and listen.
I know this is late, but I just discovered your channel recently. You've helped this white guy a great deal in quickly getting his tech knowledge up to par with the requirements of his new job. That was how it started, but you've started to make me passionate about tech and innovation, too. You're the best sort of teacher, and the tech community should be grateful to count you as a member.
I didn’t comment on this when I first watched it at its release but I feel the need to say this here and now. Irregardless of your race, you have ALWAYS been one of the first UA-camrs to truly inspire me. You showed me that you can be cool, while being interested in tech, you can be sporty, while still being interested in tech, you have showed me time and time again that integrity is a huge virtue. I sincerely hope the best for you, Marques.
I’m watching this a little late. I have genuinely NEVER thought of you as a “black Creator” or UA-camr or whatever you want to call it. You’re just a guy who I really enjoy watching and getting your input and opinions on new tech!
Marques. We' ve always looked up to you for "tech". We will continue to do so. Today, in addition, I thank you reminding us to be something, which our kids & younger selves could look up to. This should be a life goal and it seems is often diluted or forgotten in today's instant gratification world of dash charge & higher Hz. Getting a huge number of likes seems to have gotten more important than inspiring our children and future generations.
The color of your skin doesn't define you as one of my favorites, the way you so eloquently deliver an exciting perspective on a piece of tech is why I watch and stick around. If you question why I like every video, I love the passion you put into each video and honestly, I don't wanna watch anyone else.
While I rarely subscribe and have never left a comment, I've decided to change that today. Your tech channel is far and away my favorite, and when I'm looking for a thoughtful, well-produced review on a product, you are my first choice. Thank you for what you do, and how you do it.
“Instead of just being one of the best black creators I wanted to be, one of the best creators.” I've followed you for awhile and I can confidently say you are top three of the best creators ever. A lot of people I used to be subbed to lost their touch and you haven't, you have stayed true to who you are and that is what I love about this channel so much. I always know I can trust what you say. To me, you will never be "one of the best black creators" because you're not. You are one of the best creators. Looking forward to your next video, keep up the great work.
If it means anything, this is the second time I ever comment on a UA-cam video in about 15 years. I have watched your work for a while now because you are one of the most articulate communicator out there and you manage better than most to inform while been very interesting, proper and professional.
Marques, I have found myself watching more and more of your videos, and I finally realized that you are my favorite tech reviewer. When I thought about it more, I realized why I prefer your videos. You have a gentle, and calm demeanor, and you also have a great knowledge base. Your reviews are thorough, and informative. You are able to help people make a choice of a tech item based on the characteristics that are important to them, even if they are not your preferences. You are a true professional. You are seriously good at what you do.
Honestly, I never cared that you're a black creator. It has never even crossed my mind. You're another human being with great videos. Some of my interest, some not. And that's okay. Your point is so valid and I feel like some people do feel that way, but I feel like most of your fans don't. Keep up the good work. You're doing great for yourself and you're setting a good example for not just black people, but anyone else that they CAN become successful.
Ya, so, you're pretty much the only tech reviewer that I have any faith in. You're clear, concise, and clearly won't be bought off by any tech company. Plus, You mentioned Dr Tyson. What makes Dr Tyson so compelling is that he is passionate about his subject matter, and that passion is infectious. FYI, you're gifted with that very same quality!
Hey Marques, I'm from India, and I love watching your content. It's funny, I never thought of you as a "Black" Content Creator, until you actually mentioned it in this video. Well obviously I noticed the colour of your skin when I first started watching your videos, but it wasn't something I actively thought about, it wasn't something that struck me as odd or surprised me in any way, it didn't matter to me at all. Your content always - always came first. And that is how I feel any content on the internet should be viewed and consumed. Separate the Art from the Artist. Separate the Content from the Creator('s race, skin colour, religion, sexual orientation). Loads of love from me and everyone I know, who support you and enjoy your videos. My heart goes out to all brothers and sisters currently struggling in America. May you heal soon!
EDIT: I'm absolutely mortified that I may have offended anyone by my previous wording, and apologize for my previos comment. As the poster below surmised, I only meant well and didn't even think what I had written, could be offensive. Marques, being a proud father of 3, hearing how much your parents supported you, they must be so proud of you. You are such an awesome video, and content creator, that I feel not only children, but some adults should look up to you. I've supported you from the first video I watched, and will continue to do so. As others have said, I've never paid attention to the color of your skin, but I've never had to. I've never had the struggles you and others have, but I will continue to do my part in whatever way I can to move the ball forward, and to try and eliminate the ugliness that is racism. It'll take all of us to eliminate it from our consciousness and for us to treat each other as human. Thank you for putting this out here for everyone to see and hopefully reflect. You truly are an inspiration.
@@hadesedits1501 thank you for the knowledge hammer, I did not know that was an offensive phrase and will not use that term moving forward. I appreciate you letting me know!
When I first watched one of your videos (Nothing phone) I thought “this person has put a lot of thought and effort to be the most informative tech reviewer ever” and so right before I click to subscribe i did watched many of your other content and realized I always wanted to come back for more tech reviews of other brands. I never thought of labeling you as a black creator. Now I almost couldn’t count how many vids of Marques I have watched and Would STILL WANT to watch more. Me to you : You are a gifted Tech geek Marques. so thank you for all your content and please do not stop what you have established doing. I finally am now able to decide which phone I will get. After my 7 year old phone have been stolen. Cheers 🥂
I’m 23 I’ve been watching your videos every week since I was in middle school. And when you said for the 15 year old me... you nearly made me cry. You have always been inspiration to me. And I respect you so much for using your platform to speak your mind!
Marques, I'm a 54 year old grandma that enjoys tech as well, (silent follower) thus me finding you here a few years back. I enjoy your channel because I enjoy your style. Honestly, never paid attention to your color, just liked your style and trusted your knowledge etc. Thank you for what you do. God bless, ~Vicki
Im not saying that MKHB is a bad guy, but you gotta remember that alot of these UA-cam guys are basically actors. Some can be totally differenf in a video than in real life. Who knows how many takes it took for some UA-camr to say or edit the script for their vid to make it as entertaining and positive as possible.
Okay you said that "Instead of being one of the best black creators I wanted to be one of the best creators". You in my eyes are one of the best creators. PERIOD.
nah, he's not. There are a lot of far better creators than him just because he is famous (and rightfully worked for it) doesn't necessarily mean he's one the best. He's average at best
You are an inspiration to so many. In fact, most of my tech purchases have been influenced by your videos. I bought my first Tesla because of you. But the most important thing you do is show how people who look like us and have had our experiences can find the highest levels of success in what they do. So, from me and my sons, thank you! And thank you for your bravery in using the incredible platform you've created for good.
You people need to stop obsessing over appearances. You're really no different from those fake reality show women on The "Real" Housewives and The Bachelor. Only insecure people do that. None of these social issues hit town with me because I never saw the world in those terms as a kid, and I'm not changing my viewpoints. I'm doing my thing, not worrying about how I look, I'll go to the store right now in some raggity pajamas and get what I'm out to get. Alpha power moves
@@visualsbylokifu Nah because all of you self-proclaimed "social justice warriors" are obsessed with how people look and everything. It's just WEIRD. You probably go outside and are so self-conscious and lacking in confidence.

Its a great honor to have been on the planet while he has been growing and evolving. I probably dont have very much time left here but i can tell you, this young man makes planet earth a more tolerable and indeed a more beautiful place to be. God bless you young man! 👊🏽
This is still so relevant today. You ARE the best tech UA-camr regardless of your skin colour. The reason I haven’t stopped watching your videos for the last several years is because you’re real, you’re consistent, you’re passionate and you care about your fans and the quality of your videos. That’s all that matters, and that’s why you’ll always be the best.
I never saw him as a “black” creator, I saw him as the matte black creator. That sounded better in my head Edit: to anyone who didn’t get it, it’s because he constantly talks about matte black and that he wants all his devices to be matte black.

He brings a large vast variety of tech material to the table. I’m really proud of you Marques for taking the time to express your feelings and experiences of being a black man!
Sir, I have been watching your videos for 12+ years now and I am a year younger to you. I am doing my Ph.D. in Computer Science in Arizona. You were an inspiration for me to study Computer Science and get interested in tech ever since I was growing up in India. I never even realized what your race is, because I only saw you as Marques Brownlee, and realized you are the best tech reviewer on the face of this earth. Keep up the great work and the humility!
Marques, it ain't your skin colour that defines you, its your Soul, your Heart, your Work and Commitment that Defines You. Love Your Work & Dedication.
I’m not saying that what you said is wrong, but I think there needs to be a shift in this whole situation. People tend to negate color and say “We’re all people, we’re all the same on the inside.” True, but this word is colorful. We don’t see it black and white, we see it in color. And the color in nature, in man-made things, and the color of our skin, is something beautiful. I think the mindset we should take isn’t “skin color doesn’t define you,” I think it should be “look at your achievements and accomplishments, and look at you, including your skin; it’s beautiful.”
Came to this video late, but always believe in yourself, continue to do what you do, and we can all hope and strive for a future that is color blind and inclusive. Thanks!
Well said!!! Sadden my heart we are still dealing with this till this day. How is it we go to school together, we play together, we study together, we test together and when we become adults we no longer together…. it’s very sad… thank you for using your platform to speak up and I appreciate all you do. I was genuinely confused when I read the title. Here's why: I've been following and watching your channel for years now, and I've frequently found myself looking to your channel (as well as other popular tech UA-cam channels) for tech advise and reviews. I've always known MKBHD as a channel that I can trust to give their honest opinion on a tech product, and I've hardly been disappointed. I've always visited your channel simply because you were a great tech UA-camr to me. That's why I was confused at the title. I've never looked at you as a "black tech UA-camr". To me, you were always a "tech UA-camr". Great personality, great content, great advise. Skin color has never been a factor in my choice of online video consumption, and it will never be. I hope that you will continue doing what you do, and that racial stigma will soon be a thing of the past. I hope that nobody has to live their lives having that "bugging feeling" whenever they're walking the streets or driving home at night. I hope that what happened recently has been a wake-up call to many people, as well as an educational event. Till next time, stay safe.
As a 30 YO brown man in this country, and as someone who is in a very heavily white-male dominated industry due to my profession, I definitely feel your message at a higher level. I've only recently discovered your channel a few days ago, but have been loving your work so much that I can't stop watching. YT finally recommended this video to me, and it made me like your channel that much more. I may not be a 15 YO looking to become a creator, but I'm definitely looking up to you as a positive role model for the community. Keep up the good work.
Hi Marques, first time posting on youtube. What a great video! I've been watching your tech videos for a couple of months because they are well-made, very informative videos. I was skeptical when I saw the title of this video, and was pleasantly surprised that you align exactly with my thinking. Martin Luther King Jr would be proud of this video. I finally decided to subscribe! Keep up the good work!
Being black and watching you over the years I've wondered what your experiences were like in those areas. I have a lot of respect for what you do, what you're standing for today and I admire your accomplishments.
Agreed. As someone out the USA I don't care about race. He's just a good tech UA-camrs. He's not more or less because of his race in my mind. I just don't care. I hope the USA can get pass this race issue
Jeffrey 773 Naturally nobody thinks like this. Most people who are racist are ‘taught’ to be racist. When I was a kid I never thought a black kid was inferior or superior, I look at their actions not their skin colour. Only when I grew up I see usually teenagers and adults that develop the racist mindset, naturally we are not racist when we are born, we are taught literally everything we know about our world through our consciousness.
Old white Jewish guy here. I just watch your stuff because I know you have your shit together, you do your home work and I trust your opinion. I respect who you are and what you do so much that I am now holding YOU up as a role model to my daughter (who is a senior in high school)... as to why it's important to incorporate some form of tech / AI into a major or a minor in college. So impressed by who you are... I thought that maybe where you went to college might have also influenced who you are today... And am now encouraging my kiddo to apply to SIT... (even though we are now past that app deadline). And, if you were open to it... would love for my daughter to be able to bounce a couple of life / college questions by you... because I'm encouraging her to reach out to the best of the best in a number of different fields and ask people for their advice on a number of topics. To conclude... it never really meant anything to me in terms of what someone's color was and truly was always about the content of someone's character, integrity, honesty, work ethic, professionalism and humanity. It makes sense, right? Take two people who have the exact some qualifications / education and everything else being equal... I'm always going to go with who is the better human... regardless of color. Bottom line... I'm always going to want to work the person who best has their shit together, regardless of color. And THAT's why I tune into your channel. Not sure what email is tied in with this google account... but would love to connect. Name is Michael Levy and I own Rider Rescue towing company (and can find me on Linkedin)... but also consult with a number of companies who want to do more business in the motorcycle space. I also have a relationship with this one particular VC who does a huge amount of stuff in the tech space... and would probably welcome the opportunity to grab lunch with you the next time you find yourself in the Boston area.
I just randomly got recommended this video today but i’ve been subscribed for years. I’m glad you put my biggest insecurity into words because this is what I’ve been trying to say for the longest but whenever I do I get shut up and told to just accept that I’m black which negatively reinforces to me the fact that I am. I have instances where I’ve been called someone’s “favorite black _____” where I had to stop and think and say that’s not the same as gettin called someone’s “favorite chinese/somali/hindu/etc” bc it restricts you to your skin color and not your beliefs or culture. In every instance I disassociated from that person cause I thought it’s weird to only acknowledge a black person as other when we’re just as much american as a japanese person would be asian. I’ve never been able to get over this and stay in my room as a result from it. I don’t like talking to people.
I'm not black, but I can say for sure, you've been a huge inspiration for me, and a whole generation of people who love tech.
You're a big reason of why I even started making videos in the first place, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Keep being a role model 👊

Latino?? Hahahahahha "race" classifications in the united states are a circus

What's crazy to me is that in all my time watching you, I have never once even thought about you as a black creator. Only as a consistent high level tech reviewer/enthusiast.
@@boxsterman77 I live in the Caribbean and very few people here actually see a person's skin color as a significant feature, so most of the time, people don't even notice whether a person is black or white. it’s crazy because you’re not even just “one of the best POC tech reviewer channels” on youtube. you’re literally the TOP. in general. and that means a lot. you’ve sorta normalized someone who’s not white to be one of the top tech content creators, and it shows in how people never mention you being black but rather just that you’re one of the most popular channels. The color of you skin is just there, as in "oh that's interesting, wonder what his story is- with that way he has, must have great parents! "
Anyway that's from an older white guy, very concious of the polar opposite: of often benefitting from white male privilege (like with encounters at a border or with the police).
But what you are taught as a child
and the culture that shaped you as a child cannot be changed by the flip of some kind of mental switch. It takes time and desire to change and prayer.
Never seen you as “The Black” tech content creator. Always seen you as “The Best” tech content creator.

I’m watching this a little late. I have genuinely NEVER thought of you as a “black Creator” or UA-camr or whatever you want to call it. You’re just a guy who I really enjoy watching and getting your input and opinions on new tech!
"I want to try to be something to look up to for kids like the 15 year old me."
That statement hits hard. Thank you for all you do Marques.
He really already is something like that
If he sold out less, I think it would help that goal

Everyone respects you for a reason, keep being the good man you are.

I've followed you for awhile and I can confidently say you are top three of the best creators ever. A lot of people I used to be subbed to lost their touch and you haven't, you have stayed true to who you are and that is what I love about this channel so much. I always know I can trust what you say. To me, you will never be "one of the best black creators" because you're not.
You are one of the best creators.

Hey Marques,
I'm from India, and I love watching your content.

You truly are an inspiration.

i hate sm ppl no I’m saying that I knew Marques was black but everyone else didn’t know that yet
Thanks!

I was genuinely confused when I read the title. Here's why:
I've been following and watching your channel for years now, and I've frequently found myself looking to your channel (as well as other popular tech UA-cam channels) for tech advise and reviews.
