I was at this concert in '86 & one of my favourite bands of all time. Dire Straits are one of the only bands that sound better live than studio recorded. The live Alchemy album is testament to this. I don't think we will ever see bands like this again.
Dire Straits is indeed live always better than at the studioversions. Mark is a genius! I went to 2 of their concerts in the 90ies and one soloconcert. 3 of the most beautiful days of my life. I can Highly recommend their song: Telegraph road live at Wembley. A real masterpiece between their other masterpieces.
When you've watched a few of these you'll start to notice be never seems to play the songs the same way twice. He throws in slight (and sometimes big) changes, just for his own amusement.
Hadn't heared this song in years, and never even seen this live version before.....but so amazing! That build up towards the end is just magic. And then imagine this wasn't some obscure materpiece, back in the day this was actually a chart topping hit song in several countries. Incredible.

The brothers in arms tour 85.Thirteen nights in July at Wembley Arena with Live Aid in the middle on the 13th.Was at both,saw Dire Straits on the 14th great band, great show, back when you could get tickets for a gig at the box office ☘
in essence it+s a Philip Marlowe story in music. mark is certainly a top 10 guitarist and it takes someone of that caliber to not just play the music but channel the emotion .

Gutair used was a Chet Atkins Special . Mark knopfler had the teachings of the master Chet Atkins (RIP).
