the year was 2012. the London Olympics were in full swing that summer, even shining a spotlight onto Jamacian athlete Usain Bolt who cleared the 200m sprint with a time under 20 seconds. also trending back in 2012, Tim Cook became the new head of Apple, succeeding the late Steve Jobs in the role. to this day Apple is still chugging with its recent iPhone iteration in stores... but of course there will always be a better iPhone model they might drop the next year. final bit of news before i dig into this song from the legendary Linkin Park, 2012 was also the year we were "doomed" due to the Mayan calendar being reset. remember the movie "2012"? yep, that didnt happen IRL.
so yeah, rambling aside... 2012 really felt like another successful year for Linkin Park with this song dropping in April of that year. the late Chester Bennington went HAM on the vocals for this one with Mike Shinoda dropping some bars in the bridge a bit later on before both Shinoda and Bennington traded vocals in the final portion of the song. people loved it, and i too enjoyed it.
