No it’s because servicing that microwave is a pain in the ass to remove and reinstall the microwave. Life span of that microwave is less than five years before you replaced it.
99% of my use of our microwave is to heat water for making coffee and to reheat my coffee because I don't drink it fast enough. Having a moving drawer will lead to a lot of spilling.
A microwave at that height is a perfect recipe for a household with a small child and a small animal to end up with horrifying splatterhouse gore on their hands. 😭 There's a reason microwaves are supposed to stay out of reach for young children.
You are having a problem with this one appliance bc you’re tall-most things are made to accommodate tall people. You’re experiencing what short people experience everyday.

Sharp makes a model with a fold down menu and leaves it at a angle so its easy to see
You have the same misgivings as me about under-counter microwaves. However, I disdain above-stove microwave hood types much more.
I think I'll ditch my microwave for a steam oven, I hope Cafe will make the top oven of a double oven range a steam oven.
