Enjoy as I review the Cafe by GE kitchen appliances after 6 months of owning and using every day. I'll try to help answer the question "Are the Café appliances worth it?" while shortly walking through all the features of the Cafe French 4 door fridge, the Cafe dual fuel range, Cafe stainless steel dishwasher and the Cafe beverage center.
We went with the Matte White with bronze handles on all of our Café appliances. They are fingerprint resistant and look absolutely stunning. You wouldn't believe the amount of compliments we get on a FRIDGE 🤣 If you are thinking about purchasing the Cafe by GE appliances, they are worth the money!

I don’t comment on videos but because I am a huge Cafe brand fan I watched your video. Very in-depth review of the products you have. I have the same fridge , the double oven with gas, and the microwave. We just remodeled our kitchen and I added the double drawer dishwasher, toaster oven and the coffee drip machine. I have been made whole. The appliances are a whole conversation with my guests. They are not only gorgeous but worked well, no problem 2 years in.
I have been obsessed with the Cafe appliance line for a while now but the only real videos I seemed to find on it are from the brand itself or someone selling it. This was very useful and just made me love them more

Loved your in-depth video on the series. We just purchased the Cafe fridge and dishwasher about a week ago replacing some SS Electrolux ones. Great thing about the white matte finish is that it does not show any water marks or finger prints. The only thing I would mention is to make sure u match your whites. My kitchen walls are painted BM Swiss Coffee which is a creamer white than the appliances so that was a bit of a surprise when it was delivered. My dark grey and beige cabinets makes it all work but it took some time to get over the clash of the whites.

Do you get your raw meats delivered? I started my dog on farmers dog food and I cook them chicken. I’ve heard great things about raw food for dogs.

We splurged for the beverage fridge but it has been so wonderful to have. We are able to keep all of our drinks stocked up (including wine!) without taking up a bunch of fridge space. Really shines when we have family and company over! Excited for you to receive your oven!!! Thanks for watching!

I don’t believe you can turn on air fry without the app. Someone mentioned that convection bake is basically air fry, since the air is moving from the internal fan, which is essentially an air fryer hahaha idk but we find ourselves using the air fry function often. We placed the app on our phones as well as the iPad that stays in the kitchen most times so it’s easy to access

I’m pretty amazed. As far as I can tell, this is filling a spot in a market for those who want something nicer for their home but can’t afford Viking, etc. You get a lot of what those really hi end brands have (such as French door wall stoves) without the insane price tag. I’m planning to get the model that has no dispenser on the outside (which makes the front of the fridge covered in water stains) and the ice in the freezer where it belongs. by the way, for the oven these are convection ovens which are the choice in bakeries. I used to use one when I worked for a cookie shop in college in the 80’s. “Air Fryer” is just marketing for an electric oven with something that circulates the air to keep the temperature even throughout the stove.
It's funny that you mention the AIR FRYER marketing feature. That was my exact initial thought too! My hunch was that a "counter top" air fryer was essentially a mini convection oven! Funny that you compare these to viking (as we had as well!), we recently experienced a month of use with viking & subzero appliances and to our surprise, we much preferred our CAFE by GE appliances over the viking and subzero variants. I think this CAFE line by GE really punches above its weight class when it comes to price! Thank you so much for watching!! Have you received your fridge yet?

I loved my GE cafe kitchen appliances until the 3 yr mark.... Now I am truly disappointed, upset and so frustrated with my GE cafe series appliances. Although still beautiful... under 3yrs old GE Cafe refrigerator's freezer drain leaks all over the floor unless we bi-monthly 'defrost" the coils & thaw the drain. OUR CAFE oven's motherboard died & GE cannot/will not repair it. WE WERE TOLD by GE they would give us $250 credit towards a new purchase. The GE cafe induction cook top works intermittenly and the GE cafe convection/microwave oven's interior door seal is pulling/melting away (see included pic for seal and fridge leaking). :( :( lemons...

It's complicated but Shabbos it the same as Shabbat. Sabbath Mode allows you to open and close the refrigerator or freezer doors without activating interior lights, sounds or other controls. While your fridge is in Sabbath Mode, water filter status lights are disabled and temperatures cannot be adjusted. I am a Jew and didn't know how it related to a fridge. Mostly Orthodox Jews would use this feature.

We got the Cafe fridge a few years ago. It worked great for a month, then it barely worked and the lights were dimmed. We live in St Thomas, US Virgin Islands, so getting a GE tech to the house is not easy as the only one lives on St Croix, thirty miles away and only comes to our island once a week. The tech was really nice and ordered a part. The fridge was stuck in Shabbat mode. This was during the latter part of covid, but there was a nation wide shortage of parts. Needless to say, it all took about a month, which required us to live out of a cooler, since Shabbat mode is not intended for long periods. The mode just takes the least amount of energy to keep fridge cool before returning to regular mode. Nice feature unless you get stuck in it. We are now ready to renovate our kitchen and plan on getting the other Cafe appliances as well. I want to stick with GE for service purposes as most other higher end brands are not easily serviced in the Virgin Islands.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with GE! We also had to have our stove and dishwasher serviced. The LCD screen on the stove started to look funny, and the dishwasher would require you to open and hit start again shortly after starting it. Turned out to be the latch mechanism. Thankfully service was quick, free and professional. Was actually a very pleasant process!! So far we haven't had any other issues. Not to mention the dishwasher wasn't even a brand new appliance when we bought it, considering it was a floor model/scratch and dent discounted model

I never take the time to comment, but I just had to thank you for providing the best appliance review video I've ever seen. My fiance and I are remodeling our kitchen, and I've been so on the fence about purchasing the GE cafe line because like you said early on in your video, there really aren't any detailed reviews out there. We've checked multiple appliance stores as well and are having a hard time finding a place that carries this line in their showroom to even see in person. THANK YOU so much for your thorough, in-depth, and entertaining review. I appreciate being able to see them in use, as well as stocked up. I hope you guys continue to enjoy your new appliances, and just know that you truly helped us out in making our final decision to purchase these as well!

What is the model number of the 36" dual fuel range you are showing?
@JakeHeather great video. I am about to place my order for these same appliances but can’t seem to find the Air Fryer feature on the new 36 dual fuel ranges. I see that yours has it, very interesting. Hopefully they didn’t discontinue it on the newer models.
The feature seems to only be activated via the Wi-Fi app available on your phone. Have you tried looking there yet?

Nice walkthrough of the Cafe line of appliances. The only thing I missed from this presentation was the refrigerator's icemaking. I know that affordable luxury refrigerators do cube and crushed ice, but I wondered whether the Cafe refrigerator did craft (round) ice, which melts much slower in drinks.
It unfortunately does not make craft or round ice. It makes what I would call "normal refrigerator ice" hahaha. Also because the ice maker is in the door of the fridge, the ice capacity is not very large. If throwing a party I would recommend grabbing a bag of ice to keep in the freezer, which is never a problem bc the freezer on this fridge is HUGE. Hope that helps!
Hi there. Great review on the oven!! I have been looking at this oven for quite a while online but I can't seem to get a clear answer for this question. When baking in convection mode can you set the oven temp to random temps (say 304F or 347F) and not just in 25° increments?
So if you are changing the temp using the knob on the front of the stove, you can change by increments of 25. 300/325/350/375 ect. If you use the APP, SmartHQ, you can change the temperature in increments of 5. So you can select 300/305/310/315/320/325 ect. Hope that helps answer your question! I read one review about the matte white surface of the Cafe appliances needing a coating to prevent then from being scratched or showing marks. The author's words choice made me think of flat wall paint. I haven't seen the color in the stores, myself; so I can't make my own judgement. Would you please tell me if there are any downsides to the matte white color? Thanks. (If you've already mentioned this in your video and I missed it, my apologies.)
We haven't found to have any issues with scratching or the finish. We actually find them to be incredibly finger print resistant
Hi! I read in a review that the center rack is not removable, which seemed like it would be very limiting for cooking large things, like a turkey. Is the middle rack removable, or not? Thanks!

Oh it is definitely removable and/or adjustable. The middle shelf has a roller shelf that slides out very easily even while holding something let’s say as heavy as a TURKEY 😂 you can place this heavy duty slider on the very bottom and stuff as large a bird as you can fit inside 👍🏼 Hope that was helpful 🤘🏼

Hi there. Nice review. Can you tell me if you can turn oven on offsite and not on same network as your oven is on? So if you are at work 10 miles away, can you preheat the oven?
Yes you can control it without being on the WiFi network. So I guess you could turn it on while on way home from work. Probably not recommend 😝
Curious how much are the water filters and how often do they actually last in the real world? My current fridge the filter only lasts for about 2 months...
You couldn’t of asked at a better time! It just notified us to replace the filter last week, which had us asking the same question. We have the filters on auto order every 6 months and it seems like the light came on 1 week before the new filter was delivered 👍🏼
Just built a similar kitchen and am buying the same appliances, what microwave did you go with? They only have the matching over the range microwave.
We actually chose to not replace our old microwave that was above our old stove since we don’t ever use it. We much prefer to heat something up in the oven or on the stove top. Now that we have a gas stovetop it takes just a few minutes to heat something up in the pan

It is our coffee work hoarse! I use it multiple times a day, everyday. Have had to replace a valve about 18 months in but since then has been perfect. I’d love to chat about your experience as i am a bit of a enthusiast when it comes to espresso!!

love this review very humble i just went and looked at these products at bestbuy and wanted a review and this popped up wonderful!!!!.....question could you give a breakdown on how much the kitchen re model cost?
We were able to do just about everything ourselves, which means it only cost us our time and price of materials. We did have someone install propane tanks outside and run a line to the kitchen so that we could finally get away from the electric cooktop. We also decided against doing the counters and stone backsplash ourselves. I believe we spent about 40k all together, including the price of appliances which in itself was about 18k if my memory is correct
How is the Fan on the oven? It it loud and does it stay on long?
it certainly isn't silent. I feeling like saying its loud or not is kind of subjective. I'd say its noticeable if you are paying attention to it, but its kind of a light white noise during conversation or the television on. Hope that helped answer your question. Maybe i can use a Decibel app to get a DB rating

Did you make your pantry cabinets deeper to make the standard depth fridge look like counter depth? It looks great, I would love to figure out how to do that in our kitchen!
Yes! I did. I added the pantry to the left of the fridge, and bumped it out to be flush with the fridge. I did the same with the cabinet above the fridge and then added a wide enough filler panel to cover the other side of the fridge to the wall. Creates a nice little nook for the espresso machine area and also gives the perception that everything was built in. Well I guess it was all kind of built in hahaha. I suggest starting with the fridge in place and building around it if you want to achieve a similar look!

How did you get the range to go against the wall. Our gas/propane valve keeps it from going flush against the wall. Can you show behind the stove?
@@SMTortorella so we actually have that same problem. It just so happened that we decided to do counter top matching quartz up the wall as a backsplash. That 1.5in thick quartz sticks off the wall and covers the gap from not being able to push the stove all the way back. You may need to have your gas valve re positioned to get it to slide all the way back

We decided we preferred the look of the 36” range as opposed to the standard 30” so we figured out early on if we could make it work. Having the extra cooktop space has been HUGE and makes cooking much more enjoyable when working with more than 1 pan.
Yes, this range was expensive. In fact almost double the price of my first car 😳
But we have zero regrets and plan to own this beauty for the next 20 years. Quality seems to be present in all of these Cafe appliances 👍🏼

Just wanted to ask what's that thing in the middle of the range and the vent plus what vent did you get? Did you just customize that for the kitchen? GREAT KITCHEN. It looks great!
Not exactly sure what you are referring to with the “thing in middle of the range”. We ordered the vent hood and vent from hoodsly. I’d have to look at exactly which model the vent is. We ordered it with the vent hood so that we didn’t have any problems with fitting. Thanks for the love! 🤘🏼
so the 3rd door can be a freezer also ? Are you able to turn off the 3rd or 4th door ?
I don’t think it’s recommended to turn off any fridge because it’s sealed so tight. You’ll notice that you go to stores they have them on all the time even without food, because they start to smell weird. Cafe has other models without that middle drawer.
What brand of kitchen cabinets did you install, I absolutely love them and I was looking at these Cafe appliances and loved them but didnt want to spend the extra money, and now looking at your kitchen, it seriously makes me want to buy them now
I ordered these cabinets from wholesalecabinets.us. Midnight blue is the color and we really love the quality for the $$. They aren’t super expensive but made from real wood, not mdf. Can’t recommend cafe appliances enough. We recently had the lcd screen start to go bad on the stove and they sent someone out almost immediately to fix it
These appliances have changed our lives! They are a real pleasure to use, and just as nice to look at! They are the most quality feeling kitchen appliances we have every used/owned, and think they are absolutely worth the money! @@lindseysinger2042 the lcd on the stove started to have some discoloration. So I reached out to support and they sent someone next day. I also had him look at the why the dishwasher was pausing during beginning of cycle (remember this was a floor model from American freight) and he ordered the parts needed. Week later and they came to install the new parts and couldn’t have been more polite and professional. Set down safety towels everywhere and had them repaired in about 90 minutes. So far so good, those have been our only issues. Still loving them every day!! 😊
Nice but about controlling the stove from your phone what if it’s hacked and someone turns the gas stove on while your asleep? Can that happen? People have hacked baby monitors and smart tv’s and other things

Thanks for this review, I've been considering this 36" Cafe range vs a Cafe Induction range. Is there are reason you went with the gas range vs the induction range? I'm having a hard time deciding which to choose.
Think it boils down simply to preference. We love the quick and consistent heat we get with gas. I know some swear by induction but we just aren’t familiar enough

Jake, great review! I love the Cafe line and you really sealed the deal for me. We're building a new home and this is going to be our splurge!! Is the matte finish any harder to keep clean than the stainless? Also, what kind of range hood do you have? It is absolutely gorgeous!
You won’t be disappointed! And the matte white has proven to be wayyyyy easier to keep clean than stainless. It’s incredibly finger print resistant which has been fantastic. We are really really happy with our decision 😊

I don’t know if you got an answer to your question about this. But Shabbos mode refers to the Jewish Sabbath. Observant Jews aren’t allowed to fiddle with electronic items on the sabbath. Therefore some modern appliances come with features that turn off automatically or turn on automatically without manual adjustment by the owner. This is a very desirable feature for people who observe the Jewish sabbath strictly.

No American Frieight is a floor model / scratch & dent appliance store located all over the United states

Is there any issue regarding cleaning the stubborn stains on the white range?
We haven't had any problems cleaning or keeping them clean. The matte surface really does an excellent job hiding finger prints as well. They stay way cleaner looking than traditional stainless steel appliances

Yes the dishwasher is whisper quiet. You can't hear it during normal conversation or if the TV is on. If the house is dead silent and you really try to hear it you can make out a soft whirrrrr

Yes they are a dark navy blue 🙂
Does the autofill feature recognize if there is ice in the glass already?
it does recognize that there is ice in the glass. I've noticed it will sometimes stop short of filling to the top if ice is present, which can be a tad frustrating. After over a year it has only over-flowed the glass once! and that is using the feature at LEAST 6-8 times a day

You absolutely should have brand loyalty to Finish. They are the only brand left that uses the thing (sulfites? Phosphates? Cannot remember) that everyone else took out for the environment. May be good for the environment but won’t break up your food. I had a Bosch and they had the same recommendation etched on the door. Now it’s possible Cascade has repented and put the offending ingredient back in because so many reviewers recommend it.
It’s phosphates. I believe Miele is also a good one. doesn’t have the dumb “contains no phosphates” label on it and reviewers are amazed at how beautiful the dishes came out. It’s how powdered cascade used to come out too. (Miss a simple box of powdered detergent. So much cheaper.) A dishwasher repairman is the one the clued me in to this.

How is the ice maker?
A bit slow to dispense ice, but never had any real issues. It’s easy to remove the entire ice bucket from inside the fridge if you want to dump into say a cooler. Crushed ice works well
I can say that the amount of ice it holds is small. If you are filling up multiple to-go cups with ice or trying to use it all day it will run out. I wouldn't rely on it supplying ice for parties or gathering larger than 4-5 people. But we are okay with that sacrifice considering how much space is in the fridge and freezer
What washer and dryer do you have? I love appliances.
We have the sapphire blue GE side by side washer and dryer. They are amazing. Also our first high end washer/dryer and I can’t believe how bad our old ones were. These are so much faster, quieter, and the clothes really come clean. Like the whites come out looking brand new

Do you have microwave?
Nope, no microwave. After living in the van for a year we got pretty used to not using a microwave. We have space in the laundry room or garage to add one if we ever feel we absolutely need to. We really don’t miss it at all now that we have a gas stovetop

Too bad you put the beverage Center next to the dishwasher. Most refrigerator manuals say not to install them next to any heat source like ovens or dishwashers (because of the hot water). I guess it just makes it harder for them to maintain the cooler temperatures.
Yes, that is an excellent point!! I built a cabinet “wall” to help mitigate that issue as much as we could. I’m sure it probably gets warmer than ambient temperature when the dishwasher is running but we only run it once or every other day.
