I always seam seal all tents I have had. I also am not shy about using water proofing on the tarped bottom section and I apply several coats..no need to he stingy about it. A decent coating on the top portion helps repel water as the rain hits it and allows it to run down and bead off quickly. This effect aids the seam seals and does not allow much time for single wall materials of the tent to soak up water and then becoming heavy and then allow water to soak through and get inside. Another simple trick for helping coverings for your tent is to further water proof the canopy cover that generally comes with the tent. Use a good waterproof spray...seal any seams with a seam sealer . And you can buy a seemingly cheap very thin roll of clear plastic that is basically waterproof. Being the canopy cover does not have windows the best thing to do is lay it out flat . Roll out the plastic to cover the entire canopy..cut it to just under the size of canopy cover and seam seal it to the underside of the canopy cover. I use the same seams as that which it was put together as seams to seal the two pieces together. This provides an extra water shield that is extremely light and does not affect storage or anything. It makes the canopy cover a little thicker and heavier but that is actually a bonus in winds and rain. Especially if the canopy cover is the type that covers most of the tent like a shield. If your tent does not have such..making one is cheap and easy.. I have made them using older tents I am to throw out..I reuse the materials to form a canopy cover and seal it like I described above..All you need to make sure is that you keep an air barrier between th e canopy cover and the tent itself. Let it breathe.. it prevents moisture and water build up as well between the two layers.

I recently bought the same, only it was modified for a slant leg. Its now grey and dark grey. Not this red. I have a full screen on my canopy as well as several side panels for privacy, If using i bring the tent set up a bit under the canopy , when it rains its not that bad. The part i like most about this is It has a floor, i toss a carpet down. Its a room, have a cot set up a small table, a camp chair, its like a sleeping room, the canopy is the open living space. If you think about it that way, the side tent is just where you sleep but the canopy is your living room area, it makes for a huge tent. A full bug screen will be a good addition to your canopy. I have side walls and a tarp set on the front, so I have full privacy in my canopy tent set up, under the canopy, i can stand tall and use a jug bathroom, hehehe. Basically i sought a tent setup that can be like a camper in my car, easy to set up, easy to take down And be a substantial shelter. I installed a wood burning stove jack in the canopy, so can have a wood buring stove in the tent, canopy area, safe from Co emmisions, but extremely warm. I made it a hot tent. It can be 0 f degrees but 70 f in that 10 foot radius. I also use a Mr buddy with a 20lbs propane tank, with a Y for my camp stove./ Here where I live it can be 19 F yet with the wood stove and the heater, its nice in the tent. Ive seen people come here to the woods and live year round in their tent ..thats what I wanted, a set up i could camp year round.
They make a version for straight OR slant canopies now. Its not very tall, im 5"11, i have to stoop a bit, but its just a sleeping space, I can sit on my cot or a camp chair in the tent part, there is a good size area for a cot a camp chair on one side and I have a folding plastic TV table i bought from walmart also, or you can get a wood one, but that makes a perfect table , Inside that area for one person, its not bad at all. For three or four people IDK, but for myself and a girlfriend with my double cot, its ok. The rest of the canopy is a 10x10 camping space, so using this side tent as a just a bedroom - Where you sleep, Is not a bad thing. I had a canopy for years, enclosed the whole for a living space like a tent, this side tent opened it up even more
Literally all the problems you listed don’t exist if you use the Ozark Trails 10x10 canopy. No open spots on the sides or top and full rain coverage. So to viewers - USE THE OZARK CANOPY FOR BEST RESULTS
By “mistake”....... we put our 35$ little OzarkTrail tent Under this canopy. 🙀 ...........talk about Serious waterproof with Zero problems. Nice patio and fire pit. I M H O....... the perfect lower budget configgerment
He set it up with the wrong canopy! If you use the Ozark Trails 10x10 Instant Canopy, it has a lower height adjustment option... and they say to use the lower height with the Connectent. If you watch the Ozark Trails video, you can see that the canopy completely covers the top of the tent, and the bottom of the tent sits right on the ground. They also have S hooks that attach the top corners of the tent to the canopy... there are holes in the canopy corners for the S hooks. It's a great setup! They also have guy wires to hold the tent down in the back.
That was my problem. The first time setting it up. I didn't even see any instructions. That night rain. Figured that problem out real quit. I've used these tents now for 3 monrhs. Went through some pretty bad storms. All the way from Killeen, TX to Eastern KY, then Lake Michigan. Every place had one good one. The last storm in Mich. was so bad. I ended up throwing 2 tents away, with a rug and trap. I still have one tent with the canopy. Plan on finishing up the trip with that. It has been a blessing. It has preformed great. It saved us hundreds of dollars on hotel and eat out. This little run just helped me plan next year trip. I've got my eye on a better tent set up. Seen one with a l-shape that wraps around the canopy i have. This was a reall good learning experience. Can't wait to strat the application trail next last spring or early summer. Good times!
I am in Kansas and we have heavy winds and hot summer temps. Do the Ozark trail tents also have a front door screen and does that canopy have a place for guy lines and does the tent as well ?
The only way it would not touch is to put it the other way but then it becomes a 2 person tent. Not sure on the desert wind but it should be fine with regular winds.
Me and my buddies bought three of these and the canopy and went kayaking down the river and made a cool little island camp for three nights

I sprayed silicone on my tent and had no problems during the heavy rains that we had experience on camping trips
What kind of silicone did you use? very rainy where we are but I love this set up.

I'm sad that I didn't realize my canopy wasn't straight leg...but it still fits but the floor doesn't touch well in the front.

They have screen houses that go under the 10x10 straight leg canopies...
You can add screen mesh panels tona al canopy. There is a set that has 4 *walls, 2 of which have zippers for 2 doorways.

yes.... the Ozark trail Canopy has a lower height setting and it is supposed to be used.... so the canopy covers the top of the tent!
When you had your big Cabela’s cot set up, were you able to have it NOT touch the sides? Do you know how this will do in wind like in AZ desert?
