  • Title says it all. I made one little error. At 6:50 I said middle and index finger. I meant to say middle and ring finger. Sorry about that. Enjoy!

    What a well explained video - thank you so much! I finallly understand how to do this! No one else seemed to break it down in such a way I could understand how it worked. Now for practice makes perfect...

    Another great tutorial Chuck. Your manner in which you convey your knowledge/experience is in my opinion
    the most selfless and humble of all on UA-cam. You seem to be a very conscientious instructor that truly relays the essence of giving back as we
    share our knowledge. I have been primarily a match player, however I never put the traditional grip in the closet for the simple fact that when you're really swinging, traditional grip always was more natural for me. In
    Be-Bop jazz and the like it just never felt right to use match grip - although I could if I had to. I'm so glad that I kept using trad/grip to some degree...
    Anyhow, with your trad/grip videos and your method of the trad/grip and relaying the best advice out there, I actually have come to a point where I have a *decent traditional grip technique. My form is pretty much as yours is,'which in my opinion is about as *correct as it gets. Have to tell ya, it didn't come over night. Waking up that index finger and making it bounce the stick was at first almost alien to me.
    But I knew that this is the proper method and I persevered to the point now where I can use just the index alone as you have illustrate. The thumb and index finger now work good together for me now. I remember in one of your videos you said " you have to sometime get the ring and pinkie finger out of the way... another bane for me for just abit.... The trad/grip and the way you execute it now works good. I feel good playing it now with confidence. The problem is with most of us is : we all want instant beautiful technique and lightning fast singles...'
    It takes a lot of work to achieve these things. Another thing I've noticed about you and your methodology is, is that you are very open minded. In other words, you don't come off as saying it's Chucks way and only Chucks way.
    I'm a 58 year old guy that quit playing for personal reasons about 12 years ago...last year around this exact time I decided to pick the sticks up again and get to it. Being studied with theory and formal training I have made a solemn promise to be better than I ever was before. I honestly practice 2-3 hours everyday and I love it... studying with guys like you has made my journey
    anew to be even more meaningful, insightful and most of all pleasurable.
    Thank you so much Chuck..

      Jimmy, thank you so much for your comments. I really appreciate the kind words. Means a lot and I mean that. We're all students here trying to get better. So my approach is more from a sharing attitude as opposed to me being some sort of teacher per say. Let's help each other out. Let's exchange ideas and most importantly let's edify each other. That's my top goal. I respect and desire critique but, of course, I love compliments especially when I know something I'm doing is helpful to someone else. Thanks again and cheers.

      Porsu, thank you very much. I am humbled by your comment. I'm just happy folks are getting something out of these videos. I definitely don't have the quality that many guys out there have but I hope I can make up for that with a wide variety of content. And remember I do take requests so if there's a topic you want me to do, just let me know. Thanks again Porsu!

    Easy with your strong hand. Not as easy with the other

    My left hand is a nightmare trying to turn slightly from French grip to American. Maybe it's not gonna happen. Any suggestions?

    • @ChuckBarchuk
      @ChuckBarchuk  5 років тому

      I wouldn't worry so much about what grip position your hand is in. Just pick the one that is most comfortable and allows you to engage your fingers.
