Hi, thanks for this video. It took me a while to get the chord on lower keys and the strum pattern on upper keys concept. I think it will click better for people if you explain it this way, when you play guitar, your left hand (usually) (lower keys) does the chords and your right hand (upper keys) would do the strumming. Also the thing I don't get is when you drag the pattern to the cakewalk measure (something you did not demonstrate),you hear that strum pattern/chord as the currently selected chord on the VST there, so if you change the VST chord, it also changes it for the dropped section in cakewalk. I would expect it to keep the chord that was dropped instead of changing each time you change the vst chord.

Thanks for the comment. Like you implied, the chord arrangement is not intuitive. Good points that you brought up. I'll make your comment a sticky.

Thanks for sharing! 6:02 - chord name (Am) is displayed on the top of piano roll. Is this a plugin? Was that covered in one of your other tutorial?

I don't remember covering it in other tutorials. You can add "markers" in Cakewalk. Position the cursor on the time ruler and right click then" Insert Marker". You will be prompted for text. You can type the chord name "Am" like I did or a something like "Chorus". To move a marker, left click when the cursor turns to a M prompt , hold and slide it. To modify, right click on the marker.

You are not recording audio but MIDI instructions. At ua-cam.com/video/o-BAeqnJMpM/v-deo.html, it shows how to record the MIDI information. The top note referred to as the "sequence" note is the strumming pattern. The bottom note is the chord key. It takes two MIDI notes to form the audio from the strumming pattern and the key of the chord. Cakewalk interprets these two notes to create the audio when played.

hi how can i add ampl sound to cakewalk? Thanks

It's been a while since I've installed it. Go to the website and download it. www.amplesound.net/en/pro-pd.asp?id=7 then run the installer. Restart Cakewalk and it should find the new plugin. That's all I had to do

I'm not finding that the keyboard in piano roll is emulating exactly what the keyboard in main is doing. Should it? For example, in main I click on C1 to select that root note for chord, you hear the squeeky noise. But C1 on piano roll makes no sound. I see you used C3 to change chord. Very confusing.

I see what you are saying. I haven't noticed it before because I use Ample Guitar Lite in the Strummer menu not the Piano Roll view. It looks like the piano roll positions in Ample Guitar Lite are marked 2 octaves lower than Cakewalk's Piano Roll.
      Cakewalk starts the strum pattern at C5. C5 - pattern 1, Db5 - pattern 2, Eb5 - 3, Gb5 - 4, Ab5 - 5, Bb5 - 6, Db6 - 7, Eb6 - 8 (basically the black keys starting at C5)
Cakewalk starts the chord selection at C3 to C4Bb which corresponds to Chord Type position 1 - 12 or 13 - 24. The chord type positions are programmable and the chord assigned to the type position is shown in the Strummer menu.
An easy way to check is to press the Cakewalk piano roll key and the corresponding key in Ample Guitar Lite will be highlighted (but not the other way around). If you stay in the Strummer menu and ignore the Ample Guitar Lite piano roll then it makes things a lot easier.

At 1:44, I forgot to mention that you have to turn on the strummer with the on/off toggle switch at the left side. Just below the guitar tuners.
