I want to love this game but the lack of clarity on what things do and the fact that I cannot see the enemies on the battlefield to plan attacks just kills a tactical skirmish game like this. Please look at Mario and Rabbids and update accordingly. I'd happily come back.
@@daniveus. How does that make ANY sense for immersion? This isnt a friggen Mario game designed for little babies. The title of this game isnt "Baby's first Xcom". Its Lamplighters League. You're not SUPPOSED to be omipotent gods with all seeing eyes. Go back to yer underpowered children's console and leave the real gaming to real gamers plskthnxBAI
@@Nazgull2k1, thank you for taking the time to reply. Insulting replies are not necessary, however. I think tactical games thrive on clear information. And all the people who make these games agree (they include things like clear odds of hitting a target or how far a unit can move, etc.). When I got into combat in Lamplighters, I found the lack of clear information on enemy units detracted heavily from the ability to plan a tactical course of action. The best games in the genre let you see your enemies far easier than this one and therefore create a greater tactical experience. Regarding immersion, I don't think it detracts at all. I'm already playing a video game where my enemies freeze in place while I plan how to take them out.

@@Umi_Pumi confused, did you? He seems to overall really enjoy the game but had issues with performance? And also maybe some other gameplay things that were rough around the edges but not bad. There was also some early level AI issues, some repetition in levels, but overall a lot of positives. So, what exactly are you referring to??
Well, it's a game pass game, may as well try it... even though I haven't finished Midnight Suns or Jagged Alliance or 15 other turn based strategy games I have installed
The art and UI design is absolutely beautiful.
It is nice, and I know art is subjective, but I'm really not a fan of the art style in this game. Looks like a Disney movie or something lol

For what I heard, Lamplighters League is more of a double-A level of game, rather than the normal indie level one.
If that's accurate, do you think that implies good post-launch support by the developers,
and some hope for them to iron out the issues described in this review?
I hope so, as this one looks very interesting to me, for my personal tastes,
and I'd like to wait a bit and play it when it's in a polished state.

This is one I will probably check out on a Steam sale. Love me some XCOM, and this looks close enough to at least give it a go eventually.
Amazing review as always, Karak! Glad to know that I was right about great gameplay loop in this one. Already downloaded for GP, I am a sucker for tactics genre, waiting for the release drop. Definitely gonna play the game, love that aesthetic!
Lamplighters League definitely looks interesting. I like the gameplay and visual aesthetic. I'll have to give it a shot at some point, despite some issues. I'd be more interested if you could pick a faction instead. The enemy design looks good and I would rather play as them instead. They remind me of jin roh or wolfenstein. Would love to see a C&C crpg or xcom turn based. Ahh well.
I like ACG as much as the next guy but I fail to see the logic in watching a review of a game you have ZERO interest in. That’s just weird!

A HBS games with technical issues? That's pretty par for the course. Loved Battletech but stopped playing because it ran poorly so think I'll avoid this.

i really liked this game, but the deeper you get into the game the more you may come across. I was playing a time consuming level, and when i tried to save the progress it crashed. Tried again, it crashed. crashes alot.
As a lifelong fan of the Pulp genre (The Rocketeer, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, The Shadow, The Mummy, etc) I was stoked when I heard the premise of this game. When I heard it was going to be like XCOM and Jagged Alliance that excitement intensified. Then I read it was by Hairbrained Schemes who I rate as one of the best indy developers out there and was sure this was going to be a no brainier. I'm sad to see they had some development issues with optimizing the engine. I'd expect them to patch that out if the Shadowrun and Battletech series are any indication. I'll likely wait for a sale on this one, but it's definitely in my pipeline.
Sounds like it's less "wait for a sale" and more "wait for more patches".
I'm a big fan of tactical games like this 1,I won't be able to play this one too much stuff coming out next month. Gotta pick n choose wisely, this is where your reviews help👍🏾
the dual podcasts hits the spot
The glimpse of this game I got gave me a momentary jolt of massive excitement because I thought it was going to be some Crimson Skies thing. It's not. :\ Still looks neat, though. I love that old pulp adventure vibe, and really liked HBS previous Shadowrun games and the 2018 Battletech so I'll almost certainly check this out eventually. I think it's on Game Pass, so if it's there next time I've got Game Pass active hopefully it'll still be there.

Still getting constant crashes and the odd lost save file on xbox SX but i really do like the game combat feels like a more refined empire of sin feel and i hope they fix the game soon

This is reminding me a lot of a game called Pathway that came out several years ago, just with better graphics.
It looks great love games like this but not a fan of the doomsday clock really wish games would stop throwing these into games lol I always end up feeling rushed. Loved xcom 2 but between the timer and the missons having limited turns I never ended up beating it because I always felt rushed into making a decision hopefully the doomsday clock in this game isn’t as a bad .
This seems cool, it feels like Darkest Dungeon.

1900s-30s need more attention as a setting. Feels like the last era where the supernatural existed before science demystified the world. Shame it has a few issues I loved the look of this

Did HBS make this in unity again? Battletech was a wonderful game but man was it a technical mess too.

Paradox dumpstered the dev team as soon as they finished. I don’t know if I should support this product or not. Is it shitting on their hard work to buy it and support their publisher? Or is it shitting on their work by boycotting? I don’t know….
Contract terms probably. Happens a lot in corporate ,they get contractors, when the project is done it makes no sense having them there.

Game looks boring af.
The girl can break through walls. The beefy guy picks locks 🤦🏻♂️ …moving the characters on console is a pain. Difficulty early was over the top but the story is cool and dig that it’s on Gamepass

PARADOX in not a good publisher. It is if you are rich and want to buy a game piece by piece with 100 dlcs.
This game already is overpriced and has a character as a DLC. Shamefull.
I loved Shadowrun and i feel sad on how Harebrained have dropped the ball and allowed paradox to already have a character behind a paywall.

There's something about this game that feels really underdeveloped and budget. Terrible rpg mechanics and a boring art style does not help in a game like this. There are way too many games on new consoles that look worse than last gen games.
This honestly looks like 'ESG/Woke Xcom'. Easy pass, way better tactics games out there atm.

I've been looking forward to this game. I've been wanting to play something like XCOM but different for a while now.
this is exactly what i was looking for! a 1930's Strategy Turn-based tactics / Real-time tactics style game. Really enjoyed City of Gangsters, Empire of Sin, etc.

I've really been looking forward to this game, it's a real shame the optimization is so poor, hopefully they can get that resolved. It's so frustrating to see devs spend 3-7 years on a game and then rush it to meet release, and end up with a mess. This is exactly why I rarely play anything new, almost everything I play is older, when it's patched and fixed. Nothing irritates me more than playing a game and they remove the weapon I'm using, or completely change the inventory system, etc. I'm not your beta tester, or QA team, I bought a supposedly "finished" product, not some early access demo. Absolutely love the theme though, I wish we had more games that used the "pulp" atmosphere. Thanks for covering this one Karak.
The game is bare bones and has the nerve to ask 50 euros for it, even worse for 65 euros you can BUY an extra character that is OP. Compared to Miasma Chronicles this looks worse and has a lot less mechanics. The heroes don't even get experience so you struggle with the strategical level to give your heroes a few basic skills but before you reach that point you will have to suffer through the boring gameplay.
How is 50 euros is beyond me, asking 15 euros for a dlc character even before release is stupid. I understand "influencers" MUST give positive reviews to all game they recive a lot sooner than release but at least mention the problems, don't just say "its great but has tiny problems". And you League of extraordinary diverse people as the lady is a Bruiser that punches soldiers:)

I've been looking forward to this one and sorry to hear about the glitches you ran into. Maybe I missed it, but did they say that they are working to address some of the points you brought up before the game launches next week? Like a day-one patch or something?
IGN Russia doesn’t exist since 2022. And the last time this channel had anything good was 2013.
