- Keith Carlock talks about the unique features of his new Vic Firth signature stick. Want to know why Keith designed this stick the way he did? Get the info straight from the source!
The rebound you get from these sticks are actually phenomenal. It makes you feel light as a feather when you play fast.
One of my all-time FAVORITE drummers!
Hands down, my favorite drummer.
went to see steely dan at musicfest (P.A.) in 2012 .I was excited to see who was going to be behind the drums.steely dan is known for having great drummers ,and this was the first time I was seeing them live.Immediately I was like "WHO IS THIS GUY ? " AMAZING PLAYING !! needless to say when it came time for the intro of the band i was listening very intently.Keith Carlock is now one of my favorite drummers.I love his playing !!
One of my favorites but I wish the tip was a little bit bigger
I bought a pair of those almost 5 years ago during a vacation in NYC, played with them a lot, they never broke, became my favourite pair. You can't find them in Italy where I live.
That bass drum sounds immense
I like this type of drumming, where the drummer keeps the groove going and improvises within the context of the groove. A lot of drum solos are really boring because they don't seem to mean anything-Here, Keith's keeping the pocket going, but making nice, musical statements at the same time: In other words, this is the sort of drum solo you can tap your foot to...
I could listen to this man forever!
the bass drum is really sick, the toms also sound very good for jazzy stuff.
His looseness reminds me a lot of Steve Smith. Both amazing players and masters of rebound. You can really see it in their body language.
Eric Stever “The drummer with the best technique is the drummer that control the bounce.” - Micheal Carvin
That Kick Sound ! Big part of His sound . Its almost 'based ' on the whole Carlock sound. it would probably sound very different if he doesn't keep that kick as open and gutsy .
Great drummer,nice kick sound!
These are amazing for electronic drums!
"To each, their own" is what I say to anyone commenting on Keith's setup preference.
He is an amazing musician.
I really wanna try out a pair of Keith Carlock signature sticks but I'm not sure how they'll hold up whenever I play on the bell of my ride cymbal.
Anyone else notice how Keith transforms from a unassuming almost nerdy guy to a beast when he plays?? 😂 Like the Hulk!! 😂. Such a unique amazing drummer!!
I think he's referring to how flawless they are; I read that as I was about to comment it myself.
DAT CYMBAL PHRASING THOUGH
Thats a sad fact too because Regal Tip used to be an amazing stick company back in the 90's
this guy is just incredible, that is all.
I make my own sticks and I know what you mean.I use a much shorter and thicker stick in my left hand! A magic prototype stick....enough said
If I had half the talent of just his right foot I would be happy.
His stick is amazing. Taper has incredible bounce and I can play a lot faster without the effort
They have the Regal Tip finish.
I wonder what was wrong with Regal Tip?
This looks to be the same stick as the RT with the lacquer et al.
What? Did you ever played one? They´re great imo...
Beautiful, would love to have this stick in maple, just sayin'
Superb Groove player...nuff said.
He looks like Ray Luzier.
one of the best
Are you talking about his left hand position?
crikey! Great stuff
8:30 holy moly
FINALLY
'Tis true. The RT stick feels like it's made of Balsa Wood.
Keith Carlock's lost tons of weight! Fair play to him!
i love this
ang galing
well nice stick.
"We worked on the shaft a bit more"
Anyone have an idea what cymbal he is riding on in the beginning?
Jabarichonicles it's a Zildjian K cymbal. Possibly a K Custom Dry Ride, but I'm only guessing based on the finish of the cymbal.
Flamburglar.
Regal Tip has a lower wood quality and therefore a lower quality stick.
Linnehan13 ironically enough, they're the best-selling manufacturer of brushes on the market. I, however, was dissatisfied with my Regal Tip Jeff Hamilton brushes. Very inferior quality compared to my Steve Gadd signature brushes from Vic Firth.
His grip is so loose.
DarthYutsi tighter grip usually results in higher changes of carpal tunnel. Not to mention that it can also result in a very stiff drum and cymbal sound. I don't know about you but I generally don't like listening to "stiff" music.
Why not carbon fiber sticks?
… anybody else drooling to hear Keith play some Bonzo? Something tells me this guy is one of the very, very few who could knock "Fool In The Rain" outta the park: trad grip or not.
check adrian violi
beetlejuice beetlejuice beetlejuice...
Anyone playing like that is burning some serious calories!
mehh Steve=525 Keiths=555 diamter. Quite a bit bigger, as well as steves being half an inch longer. Keiths a little under a 5a, and Steves under a 7a sooo idk
Why?
Zildjian K Constantinople :)
He’s freaking awesome, but still no Ringo
My god, this lesbian can fucking groove.
his setup and technique are so odd
