This concert was legendary. "La Carcacha", "Si Una Vez", and "Como La Flor" are a few of my favorites along with this Disco Medley. There is also a video called "Selena Cumbia Medley" that is excellent!

I was at that Concert!! While working for local radio there. She was so HUGE, and was really just becoming BIG time in the American music culture. She could sing anything. Such a tragedy...such...

i wanted to go. I’m so jealous. I had all her albums now I have spotify but it was sold out and i couldn’t get tickets
My stepdad went to sunday school with her and mom used to eat at Papa gayos.
I was actually at this record selling show at the Houston Astrodome for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The audience was rather surprised that she chose to perform that disco medley as she had never made any such performance before. Later during the show, she performed some of her many hits in Tejano music which had made her famous in Texas and across the southwest but also made her a huge celebrity across Latin America as well. Many Years went by before another woman, Shakira, had such an impact.
Two weeks later Selena was back in Houston doing a small nightclub show and I was, again, there but instead of being in the audience, I was assigned to her security detail as I was a Houston Deputy Constable.
It was cold and drizzly that night and we walked her from her bus around the back of the venue to the other side for her safety. I put my patrol jacket upon her, coming and going, for two shows that night. During one show, while I stood by the stage right, she stopped singing for one moment, looked down to the right and between two speakers and smiled at me. I'll never forget that. I later got an autographed photo with her which I cherish.
It's important to mention an a very minor and brief incident that was; however, extremely important. After the first show, as the other deputies in the team surrounded Selena and followed me out (I was posted nearest the doors at stage right), one female fan among the throng of girls reaching for Selena grabbed her and I heard Selena behind me say, "I'm freaking out!" I later learned what had happened and took the time to talk with her civilian security team's leader. He was a very big guy, not professional, who was reported to me to have been a relative of the Quintanilla family as this was entirely a family business. I warned him, informed by education and experience psychological profiling, that a female fan was her greatest threat. He didn't care. I suspect he didn't believe me. She was murdered just two weeks later by the head of her fan club.
My little girls were riding with me in my pickup afterwards when the news came on the radio. I had to stop the truck as I was SHOCKED. My oldest daughter, who was a small child at the time, was a huge fan and sang Selena's songs constantly. I repeated the terrible news to my daughter who wept for hours.
Selena was, to us Texanos, much more than a singing talent. She was that super talent with beauty, charm and charisma that we all believed (especially little girls, that they too could be beautiful, talented) accepted and respected here in Texas and across the Southwest where Latinos have endured terrorism from the mid-19th century until the mid-20th century and endured subtle discrimination for decades afterwards.

She was three years older than me and lived just down the road from us where I grew up in Lake Jackson, TX. Her dad owned a Mexican food restaurant in town where Selena would perform. She came back and played the Mosquito Festival in ‘94, not long before this concert at the Rodeo. She invited a ton of people she went to school with onto her bus before and after the show. She was so humble and kind... never forgot where she came from. She’s an absolute legend and truly an institution here in SE TX. She’s still loved and greatly missed.

It was her final televised performance. She had two or three more after. Another in this same outfit, one in the green outfit with the jewel malfunction, and then another with her blue jumpsuit. Honestly, 1995 was going to be the year of the jumpsuits for Selena. I believe her last concert ever was March 16th. Two weeks before she passed.
Selena was, is and will always be the QUEEN!! The absolute greatest performer and simply gorgeous!! Missed by all and she will never be forgotten!!

I remember when she passed. I didn't know of her at the time but a lot of my co-workers were devastated. She has a great voice
"Como la flor" "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" "Techno Cumbia" "Dreaming of You" "La Carcacha" "Missing My Baby" are all really great songs from her.
I saw her perform in the late 80s when she was still playing dance halls all over Texas. I remember having the same feeling watching her live as your having watching that video. Even then she already had charisma and high energy on stage, you just couldn't take your eyes off her. We can only imagine how huge she could have become. React to some of her cumbia music.
I was fortunate enough to see this performance. Such a great entertainer and taken way before her time. R-I-H Selena!!!
I've been to her memorial on the bay in Corpus Christi, TX. People still lay flowers at her memorial.
Should probably mention I fell in love with her and her music in 93 or 94 when a friend watched the Tejano Music Awards on a shared TV and she performed. I was living in Okinawa, Japan at the time.

For those that do not know. This is at the Houston Astrodome, a historical Landmark that is now closed. This concert is part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
For six weeks, this pro-rodeo event has a music star perform each night. To be booked for this event means “you’ve made it”. Selena sold it out in matter of minutes!
The songs are covers of her favorite disco songs. This is how talented she was, she had unbelievable breath control!
I was there.
...and I was with her protection detail at a local concert in a club in Houston about two weeks later. Two weeks after that, she was killed. I have an autographed photo of it.

Houstonian here. Selena was the sweetheart of Texas and had recently released a 'crossover' LP to target a broader fanbase. My GF at the time and I saw her at this performance and a few other performances. She energized the entire stadium and the crowd was more and more diverse each show.
Every year the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo release a list of Rodeo Dates and Star Performances. The environment is a Carnival, an arena with various student raised livestock, a large stadium (the Astrodome), a rodeo show where millions of dollars are won and given away for scholarships and school programs and capped with a performance from the artist that was supposed to go on that night. Every year, it's a huge event that has been around for decades. If you have the opportunity, you and your husband should attend the rodeo. It is great fun and you can see the full scope of what Selena participated in every time she performed:

That concert must have been a party. All these classics... This is not music I usually listen to, but of course I know all of them and it's so nostalgic.
Thank you for doing Selena! I've loved her for most of my life. I am what Selena would have called a gringo but I have half-mexican cousins I am very close with and growing up Selena was a big part of our childhoods because of my Aunt Chita. I ADORED Selena from the rip. I wanted to grow up and be just like her. I would re-enact all her performances in my bedroom mirror with my mom's leopard print bra as my bustier lol and I would sneak and wear press on nails even though boys aren't supposed to because of Selenas trademark nails. I had the moves down haha. Those are great memories. Thank you so much for doing Selena.
I still remember the first time I had heard their music. I was flipping through channels on TV and came across the video for bidi bidi bom bom. Didn't understand the lyrics because I can't speak Spanish. But that is one of my favorite songs ever. And as for the movie. I Think Jennifer nailed it and did an awesome job showing us how Selena was.
Believe it or not, that was pretty much my first time experiencing/enjoying Selena. It does pull at your emotions knowing of her tragic death. Aaaaannnwayss - Thank You : )

Selena truly had the talent to become one of those once in a generation entertainers. There is one performer today that reminds me so much of her. She is a Filipina singer named Morissette Amon. Check out her Asia Song Festival 2017 performance for a fair comparison with this one. But, if you go on be sure and checkout her Wish bus performances and the new releases she has done during quarantine, especially her cover of Mariah's 'Fly Like A Bird'.
I was lucky enough to attend her concert when I was eleven. My mother took me to the Houston Astrodome. I had no idea what I was in store for, but because of Selena, I learned Spanish.

She is so good, that she actually makes you question if the songs are a cover or not. Johnny Cash/Hurt is the only other cover I can think of where the cover may be better than the original. There are others I'm sure, but the point is Selena was a talent powerhouse.

The mother of my child was there in that concert. She was only 1 1/2 years old but her mom told me there was NO WAY she was missing this concert so she put ear muffs on Stacy’s ears and had her there with her. Such an amazing story. I picture baby Stacy happily somewhere in that crowd. I broke up with her but I still love her for her and for birthing my first child. Time is short, love those around you.
