The STB has called a press conference for today, 3/15/23, at 11 AM eastern to announce their decision. It is being reported by CBS News among others that the merger has - as expected - been approved.
I live near CP's Kansas City sub aka Soo Line. This is all single track south to Knoche Yard in KC with a single track bridge over the Missouri River. Not unlike the BNSF Southern Transcon single track bridge, again over the Missouri River. I corrected myself above, i.e. CP not KCS. In Chillicothe.
I live between Siloam Springs and Westville. I grew up in westville a half a block away from the KCS main. it is single track from Siloam to Watts where a fairly new yard has been built. with that and the meet at Stilwell, and the meet at Siloam, the single track is going to be very busy if the merger goes trough. lol
My grandmother John Carlson was an engineer for the Milwaukee Road, he ran the last steam engine they had before going to diesels, in the late 50s or so. He passed away in the mid 80s I was 6 or 8 years old.
I’d love to see the Soo and Grand Trunk Western both come back but unfortunately it’s probably a pipe dream at this point. I’d love to see a Soo Line heritage paint job on one of their GP20C-ECOs. Although with the Soo still existing on paper, not sure you can really throw back to something that still technically exists.
Yes, the Chicago Sub traffic increases would carry over. 4 new and daily intermodal/auto trains in each direction by year 3. 1 each way would be added in the 1st year after the merger, 1 more in the 2nd, and then 2 in the 3rd.
I don't want KCS or KCSM to go I hope that if they end up merging they will still be allowed to operate as independent companies but still work together
I’ll be filming 2816 when it runs it’s excursion tour through south Texas on the brownie sub. I’ll literally cry when the gates go down and it crosses and exits Bloomington yard, I grew up 30 minutes south on the coast and I’d quite literally pray as a kid to get stuck by a train. When I was little there were still plenty of bloody noses, cascade and warbonnetts, UP dash 9’s I remember when the flag units first popped up, the only caboose I ever saw in service was 97/98 only once ever.
I think the only fair thing is for it to all be Kansas City Southern. This name will make the least sense and will require both KCS de Mexico and KCS du Canada (just to give the Quebecois a little treat) to exist in their respective countries. Everything gets the KCS livery, and all locomotives get a GO CHIEFS decal if they end up in the Super Bowl again.
Dang every time I see Bville these days I can't believe how much it's changed despite my delivery route taking me through there near daily the last 30 years. Billed and Proviso were my home away from home and the regular parade of freight and scoots on the Northwestern northwest line once I got my DL in my misspent youth.
Honestly I don’t support the merger bc I could’ve sworn the STB said no more mergers and also two famous railroads I’ve grown up with are being killed off so it’s a big deal to me.
@@danielferrovias he meant they won't exist as separate companies anymore besides I mostly don't want it because there is a chance it will mess with our access to Mexico and we will have to constantly be foreign power to Ferromex which will most likely cost us a crap tone of money
I approve of the merger because it would finally allow CP to compete in the US with CN. CN had tracks going into the deep southern US. CP goes just a little further south than Chicago. So a KCS/CN merger would essentially eliminate any sort of CP competition in the mainland US
Fact. The KCS signs down south at their building have CP under it all ready. I am a CP/Soo line employee. Fact, CP will be on everything. The trains, Truck, everything. I went through the merger back in 91. Two years we were calling are self CP Heavy Haul. Do to embargo thing. Fact is the like playing the coconut game. The were you take something (peace of track meachery) rent to to one part of the company (Soo Line), and the you lease it (CP) back to.(Soo Line). And take the right off. That how you make the bigh bucks. Besides screwing over the workers an customers. Be side, CP stand for Canada Partner which is a stockholder company. CP own Soo Line bake in the days if you google it. Cp own Soo line when it ran from Fond DU Lac south. Most of the stockholders were from the UK. CP part of CP limited stockholders. With a hotel in Texas, power company and some other stuff I got 1/10 employee stockholders share of that I get check for .89 for a year.
Correct. From what I heard it was because it was running more often as a manifest anyway so they finally just started calling it one. Even for a while Bensenville didn’t know what to call it, the Carmen would usually say something like “130 or 230, whichever one it is today”
My understanding is that the merged CP and KCS will still be the smallest Class I railroad. I just hope that they eventual agree on a real railroad name and not another bunch of letters like BNSF and CSX.
CP is the smallest of the two 1's in CA and KCS is the smallest Class 1 in the US so that makes sense even with the merger that would still the smallest Class 1.

Thank you...very informative. Plus, I subscribed - I like being informed!
Thanks and welcome!
I just subscribed to the channel!
Welcome!

Nice Video!
I hope they come up with a kicker of a paint scheme.
keeep up the good work!
I know they keep calling it a merger but now that it has been approved didn’t CP just buy KCS? Much like CN bought up BC rail?
Good analysis, thanks
What about the container port on the Pacific in Mexico. That would help with port congestion on the left coast of the US.
Great explanation of it learned alot

I m only for KCS railroad only I want to keep KCS name and that's it
They could just call it the SOO line and I’d be fine

Not sure if you mentioned this, but would there be any added CP/KCS trains on the Elgin Sub
Yes, the Chicago Sub traffic increases would carry over. 4 new and daily intermodal/auto trains in each direction by year 3. 1 each way would be added in the 1st year after the merger, 1 more in the 2nd, and then 2 in the 3rd.
@@TylerTheCentralILRailfan Nice thanks for replying. So railfanning that sub wont be as unbearable.

That’s dumb as hell
How is that possible?
Nice rap up , with history to back it up . Thank you for sharing .
Thanks for watching!
It's a go which means more oil trains from Hardisty, Alberta going down to Houston for refining oil from the oilsands
Theres NOT 12 trains per day on the Milwaukee I live by CP in N. Missouri..3-6 trains per day.

Canadian Pacific is bigger and been around since 1881 , if anything CP will absorb ksc
@@northlander4370 You're probably right (unless they come up with some weird hybrid name), I just like the KCS livery better lol
Long live KCS!
I m not for that merger of KCS and CP Rail I want KCS to service away from CP Rail I want to see them go their separate ways
Like I said I m only for KCS only its name only and not CP Rail
The nafta railroad project started in 1996.
Southern Pacific-Santa Fe. SPSF.
"Shouldn't Paint So Fast"🤣🤣
When Burlington Northern & Santa Fe merged together, thaz how BNSF was made.
I would have made UP use both names if they wanted SP so UPSP or forget it. SPSF should have went through.
Its cumbersome to write but I kinda like Pacific, Union and Pacific, Southern: PUPS.

I don't approve of this merger , at least keep the Canadian Pacific name and not CPKC , what's that ? A TV station ?
Good video though , nice footage 👍
Finally! Someone who agrees with me!
Imagine Canadian Pacific and Kansas city southern😂
@@triadrailfanproductions Yeah it would take a long time to get used to the name change especially since Canadian Pacific is such a classic roadname.
"I don't approve of this merger".
