As a man with a couple years of experience behind my back and being undefeated as an amateur with one ko, you can’t make these lists because they’re make belief so everyone has a feat that trumps everyone else but we can go off of what everyone’s saying so if they say someone is the best fighter they are. These lists are hard to do for this reason and this is coming from a fighter and an old power scaler.
Mad respect to the editor for sneaking moony at the end there. He's a formidable fighter basically cos he's so batshit crazy and has zero chill. I recall Taskmaster has mentioned he prefers not to mimick Marc's style since he'd rather take a punch to get an advantage rather than block it and I think that's fascinating.
Cant wait to see he's tv show. That will be sick af. Hope they make action sequences justice.

The thing is that taskmaster is imitative not innovative. He's knows how to copy but has a hard time adapting when whoever he's fighting changes things up a bit for example a wounded captain america was able to beat him pretty easily just by fighting dirty.

It interesting that Mason brings up how often Daredevil takes a punch cause heard a discussion of Daredevil that said that because he suffers so deeply from depression most of the blows that land on him are punches that he allows to land as a sorta Christian flagellation thing.

@@kompanjonac Daredevil is a wonderful example of someone with trauma-induced depression. His life has just been one traumatic event after another and he rarely gets any time to process it before something else comes up.
When he's between traumas he gets better, gets back to some shade of normal, but then something bad happens and he relives it all, which isn't exactly a healthy response.
@@kompanjonac The Mark Waid run is all about Matt's depression, and another earlier run actually shows Matt leaving NYC and takes a beating on the road. A local kid questions why Matt didn't fight back and Matt says 'maybe I deserved it.'

It's a common theory that Cap had SHIELD martial arts training in between the Avengers and Winter Soldier, and that's why he was so skilled at hand to hand from then on

Cap was evenly matched with himself when he traveled back to the original avengers, the choreography improved but his skills were just as great back then as always. I think super soldiers are just better at learning how to fight so he was able to get really skillful in a short period. Pretty much all the super soldiers we’ve seen have shown pretty good martial arts skill in relatively short time

@@Momsspaghetti777 I would say that was a fault of the film. The Russos once confirmed that Cap trained between Avengers and Winter Soldier and that's why he could fight much more impressively. I remembered that and that's why I was surprised that when they fought in Endgame, they were both practically equal in strength. But I would say that was an inaccuracy of the movie.

Never been this early before, personally Dare Devils moves are quite impressive for a man with no strength enhancement powers.
Or any armor (save season 2), and the fact that his fights rarely have a lot of breathing room to avoid being hit lol
I love in the show that it shows that he can physically take a beating as well as how visibly tired he is in each fight
X-23 and the other Immortal Weapons are up there as some of the best, other great fighters are Winter Soldier, Yelena Belova, Cyclops, Shang-Chi's family (especially Zheng Bao Yu), Moon Knight (though he has a flaw in that he allows himself to be hit), Echo, Mystique, Yukio, Finesse, the Dora Milaje, Kitty Pryde, The Mandarin and that is just a few. Also Karnak's abilities in the comics are actually self taught and not Inhuman abilities because he never went through Terrigenisis since his brother Triton couldn't breathe unless he was in water so his parents wouldn't let him go through the mist.
Edit: Also Spider-Woman is up there, she was trained by Taskmaster. Gambit and Warpath is good as well and since I put Cyclops up there I should mention Storm since looking around internet shows she is about on the same level as Cyclops in hand to hand.

I really think James needs to get over the Hawkeye haircut, it clearly weighs a lot on his mind. And I think the best way for him to do so is to live it.

One of the Garth Ennis Punisher books has Frank up against some martial arts expert and Frank realizes he likely couldn’t take him in a straight fight so he just follows him a bit and pushes him in front of a subway train, which is like a whole new world of martial arts I call Train Kwon Do.
Daredevil should without question be ranked much higher. In the comics he's fluent and a master in more than a dozen types of martial arts and has very rarely ever lost a hand to hand fight.

Like I agree with most rankings on this list but Daredevil is way too skilled a fighter to fall where he is, even if Marvel wants to diversify the list with more obscure or recognizable characters, they're just doing our boy dirty

I think Taskmaster is valid if Dare Devil is. He’s not physically enhanced to do stuff, and had to still do cardio like the rest of them.
I've never seen a list of best Marvel martial artists without Shang Chi at the top and Iron Fist at second, even long before there was an MCU. DC lists always had Cassandra Cain or Karate Kid (from Legion of Super-heroes) at the top but that was probably a crises or two ago.

Oh and I find it funny how canonically Batman _isn't_ the best martial artist in DC, and in the comics he'd go out of his way to tell everyone else that there are better fighters than him. It's like he's completely self-aware that its his stealth tactics and gadgets that let him win over Gotham's criminal elements, not his talent at throwing question mark kicks.

I think Shang Chi developed a “spider style” martial art for Spider-Man when he lost his spider sense. Which is pretty neat
Yeah, I was thinking about "Spider-Fu" during this video as well.
Spider-Man developed it himself after training under Shang-Chi. His fighting skills are definitely pretty underrated and has been shown to be able to fight very well and function as a superhero during times where he's lost his powers.
I think Moon Knight should get at least an honorable mention because even Taskmaster has said he’s super unpredictable and hard to fight. He also beat Iron Fist in the recent Age of Khonshu storyline, however with his increased strength, but it was still pretty impressive. Plus he can really take a beating.

Whilst Moon Knight is a great fighter, Taskmaster said he was hard to fight not because he's unpredictable but because he would rather take a punch rather than dodge or block.

MMA enthusiast here. One overlooked scene in the MCU was when Thanos beat the shit out of the Hulk in Infinity War. That was efficient and masterful af.

@@emory442 I think the whole point of that encounter was to show that the Hulk *couldn’t* just stomp his ass. Without the use of any of the stones, Thanos beat the shit out of him. It was a brilliant way of showing, in the very first scene of the movie, how big of a deal Thanos is. We know that Hulk is a tough one but Thanos can deal with him really easily.
I feel like hawkeye indeed is far better as a shooter than a hand to hand fighter, but black widow has beside shield training also the redroom training and a ton of field experience to a insane variety of villains with infinity war even having her fight the children of thanos
ya i usually say that if you gave em both their respective gadgets hawkeye wins, but if it was strictly hand to hand black widow wins but thats based off of movie impressions. I do think hawkeye is the better in both scenarios if we talking comics but then again it depends on the incarnation.

I feel like I would put comic book Cyclops on there somewhere (probably below top 10, but maybe at least top 25). He’s just a normal man even with his powers. When he has to fight hand to hand there’s nothing extra helping him and he gets shit done.

Wolverine is one of the greatest martial artist in the Marvel Universe fighting on equal terms with Captain America, Iron Fist, and Shang Chi…
And Cyclops still fights him on equal footing and even beats him a fair amount of times…

You're mistaken about Captain America. He's well versed in multiple forms of martial arts and it was also a part of his early training during the war.

Yeah but I would argue that it's honestly weird that the Allied Forces would find any value in training martial arts back in WW2 and if they did it would just be enough for him to be proficient in it rather than at a true master level.

Of course later cap fought and beat prometheus who had downloaded batman's fighting style into his brain. If you're unfamiliar with prometheus he's sort of the dc version of task master but he has a special helmet that allows him to download people's fighting style directly into his brain.

Regarding Captain America's WWII-era martial arts training, you may have been surprised: commandos of various Allied armies were in fact given varying degrees of martial arts training by veterans who had picked it up back East.
There was in fact martial arts training for the OSS in WW2. Highly likely Cap would have received it.
In Wolverine #164 where he and Beast are in a super villain prison with power dampening. He makes a point of acknowledging how powerless villains like Batroc and the Kangaroo are actually the most feared in prison as they have the upper hand due to their fighting skills.
Gambit gets overlooked a lot; in an estimation of his fighting abilities, Nick Fury actually said he could potentially rival Captain America. Sure, he's got the kinetic empowerment from his mutant abilities, but he's still got the training in how to use it kind of like Iron Fist.

@@cloudnein8114 If you haven't before, check out some of BP's fights & feats in the comics. Here are a few examples.
In the storyline "See Wakanda and Die", he singlehandedly curb stomped a Super Skrull that was specifically designed to kill him.
Remember the assault on Wakanda from Infinity War? An extremely similar battle happened in the comics, expect it was just BP & the Wakandan Army vs Black Dwarf (Cull Obsidian/the big dude with the hammer claw, in the movie) and his forces. Not only did BP & his army win, BP fought him solo, absolutely dominated the fight, and tore one of his arms off just to flex on him.
And there are countless instances of him beating top tier fighters like Karnak, Wolverine, Captain America, Namor, and the entire Fantastic Four.
For as badass as the late, great Chadwick Boseman portrayed MCU T'Challa, he's on a whole other level in the comics.

I also think Blade should have been on this list, to be fair I’ve only seen the movies and haven’t read any of the comics but the first two Blade movies has some of the best martial arts in any marvel film.
Classic Blade may have gotten in it as he had no vampire superpowers, but I think he got disqualified for the same reason that Cap and Spidey did: super powers.
ACTUALLY there was a somewhat recent storyline where Spider-Man lost his spider sense, and as a result had to finally actually get good at fighting. He spent a good chunk of time being trained by Iron Fist up in the misty Asian mountaintops where you go to learn martial arts. So current comicbook Spider-Man actually does know kung-fu and would be able to handle himself even without powers

This is one of those list categories where its like, "The best MARTIAL ARTIST" which measures skill in martial arts, but "best fighters" adds some of the contenders you mentioned
I believe that with a lot of Marvel related lists, Batroc the Leaper usually ends up in the top 10.
Psylocke is in the body of a member of the Hand, a trained ninja and even without powers is comparable to Elektra at the least. When they remade her powers to create telekinetic weapons, she's been shown to use a very large arsenal of weaponry, including bows and crossbows.
There's also an ambiguous thing with Moon Knight as he has a different fighting style with each persona he uses, making him hard to fight against, but in the comics, depending on the run, its unclear as to if this is him taking on the "powers" and traits of them, or he just has a multiple personality disorder.
I loved the Immortal Weapons. They're why I got into the Iron Fist stuff. So the Netflix show was a huge disappointment.
So sad they started setting up Orson Randall, only to go nowhere.

Shang Chi actually tried teaching spidey a new form of martial arts he created for spidey called "the way of the spider" and I would love to see them do a couple issues of just that. Shang Chi and spiderman just practicing the way of the spider together until Pete is a master.

OG Taskmaster (and not this MCU knockoff) yes, he does copy moves real time, adapts to moves real time but he also mixes and matches fight styles from a 40 year library of collected moves and skills which he also mixes up with custom gear to suit a style he's using (i.e Hawkeye Trick Arrows, Holographic Wolverine Claws or Spiderman Webbing, Magneto, Psychic and Sound bombs, bootleg Pym Tech). But most of all, he plays mind games - annoying banter and getting under an opponent's skin - which is crucial to his whole shtick. This is why he KO'd Thor by waiting him out thru exhaustion, He KO'd Hyperion (Superman basically) by masking a trick arrow killshot, and he just outright - wrestled the Hulk.
Funny leaving Moondragon off this list. She is the daughter of Drax the Destroyer. Was brought to Titan by Thanos's father Mentor to be raised by the martial artist monks of the Eternals there. Known as one of the most highly trained fighters in the MCU and also has unlocked her bodies full genetic potential to the level that she developed telepathy and minor telekinesis. I'd say she could kick the ass of at least the bottom half of this list and probably most of the special mentions. =P

In the comics it’s Iron Fist without a doubt.

Isn't Gamora enhanced and upgraded? I am not a comic book reader, so I'm only going by the movies here, but I though both Gamora and Nebula have space magic implants courtesy of Thanos. Wouldn't that count the same as Spiderman having super powers?
Maybe its different in the comics, but in the MCU gamora isnt enhanced at all based on Nebula saying that Thanos would make them spar and whoever lost would be forced to receive an upgrade but it was Nebula who lost everytime so Gamora didnt have any of the enhancements.

The logic in this list is rigged... if they implied nor super powers or enhancements then Iron fist shouldnt be on the list, same goes with Daredevil even; his other sensors are far more improved/enhanced, so in a way he has powers...
My general opinion on the Iron Fist or Shang-Chi debate is this:

The way I always saw it, Iron Fist could beat Shang Chi while using said Fists of Iron, but in terms of raw skill Shang Chi has him beat. But let's face it, they probably flip a coin every other week for who has the title of best martial artist.

I think people like Thor, Herc and DP are probably pretty good martial artists too but those skill are overshadowed by their powers.

@@brandondavis3431 many of you think Martial Arts refers to far east martial arts alone such as kung fu, karate and such but that is extremely wrong. There is European martial arts such as the ones used in the medieval times to now such as Greek wrestling, boxing, savate, stick fighting and all that. These martial arts are just as efficient and as effective as far east martial arts. And are usually more practical.
In the army soldiers are trained in martial arts, and their martial arts are just as good and maybe even better than the popular ones like kung fu.
Simu Liu is a new generations Bruce Lee. He's very charismatic and amazing at martial arts. Legend.

MCU president Kevin Feige, who has met him, felt much differently in interviews. So impressed, in fact, to cast him in a major MCU movie, that should be a fun experience and enjoyable distraction from the aholes in the world who think opinions are primarily used to tear down others. I don't know why you are hating on Simu Liu. As for Bruce Lee, who is dead, I'm sure he cannot be offended by comparisons, because, again, he is dead. Like Lee, who at the time broke through the barriers of racism and stereotypes for asian actors in movies, Simu Liu is a leading man unlike any to this point. There are more similarities than differences. If superficially you think Lee's only accomplishment was his Martial arts prowess, you are missing many of his real accomplishment in culture... He was a *charasmatic* Asian leading man. A ground breaking actor. Lee fiercely pursues roles, and funding for his projects, fights racism from Chinese that call him *too white*, and from Americans that call him *too Chinese". You are one of those people to Simu Liu. I on the other hand see him much differently, and that it gets under your skin makes me even more sure he was a superstar I recognized early on.
I agree, in fact im certain he could end up even BETTER than Bruce. Chad, paving the way for innovative martial arts to make a big comeback on the silver screen 😍
As much as I've enjoyed the odd comic over the years, the widely fluctuating skills/powers, scaling, comparisons, etc. are just tedious. There are so many descriptions along the lines of "one of the greatest h2h fighters in the marvel/dc universe", same for strength and invulnerability and such, that it all becomes meaningless really.
Go into watching Shang-Chi I was very unfamiliar with the character, like all I knew about him was from a mobile marvel video game, I was more familiar with Iron Fist, and I was under the impression that Iron Fist was the best Martial Artist on earth, however comparing the Movie the The Series, Shang-Chi was definitely better
The Fraction and Brubaker run on Iron Fist had Fat Cobra beating Danny with little effort in a tournament. Great way to make an impression.

Marines are trained with different combat styles from martial arts and boxing into there own fighting style. So punisher should be a jack of all trades master of none
The MCMAP shit is basically a combo of several styles into their system.
Basically any form of hybrid systems takes a bit from one style and another and blend them together.
But... that doesnt mean they include all of the techniques from each individual style they borrowed from.
In other words, punisher would be very proficient in one system, not many. Keep that in mind.

Depending on the plot need of the writer, Taskmaster is the top martial artist in the Marvel Universe. Not only can he copy other's skills, but he has such mastery of all the arts and individual fighting styles that he can predict what their next move is and have a counter ready for it. But unfortunately they've made a villain who could take on the entire Avengers team into a joke by being beaten from everyone from Ant-Man to Wasp.
I don't wanna be that guy but Captain America is my favorite marvel character and I feel a little slighted by this list (because I take anything said about characters I identify with personally)
Captain America is one of the top five martial artists in the marvel universe to the point where he developed his own fighting style which shows his level of mastery.
Normally comics will tell you some person is a great martial artist by measuring how many martial arts that individual has mastered which is a very uneducated way of determining martial arts skill because it takes years to be considered a master in a single form. Captain America is shown developing his own form to suit his abilities which shows more understanding of how martial arts works than just saying someone mastered all of them. For example a person with short and relatively weak legs probably wouldn't do to well in taekwondo because as a martial art that is mostly about kicks they'd be at a disadvantage whenever fighting.
Plus he's fought and stalemated or beaten at least half of this list (including iron fist) and you can't attribute that to the super soldier serum because for one in the comics it's really not that big of a game changer and two he's proven multiple times he can beat people without it.

Edit: I'd like to add that the Winter Soldier is also a decent martial artist but his abilities are more akin to someone who is more tactical and underhanded like the Punisher as opposed to someone who is just a straight up master of martial arts like Iron Fist. For example Punisher said he couldn't beat Bucky in a fair fight, Wolverine said he'd bet on Barnes in a fight between him and Daredevil, and he trained Black Widow

In one of daredevils comics he mentions that "Captain America is the greatest combatant I have ever seen but he is not a martial artist per se" Obviously not an exact same quote, but thought that was pretty cool
Daredevil hallway fights are some of the best stuff Marvel has ever made.

Fat Cobra is in Shang-Chi. He's in one of the lower level fighting cubes. You can see him in the back ground of a couple shots.

Let's be honest with ourselves, if he was in the Marvel universe, no one would be able to compete with the ultimate fighter. I am of course talking about ShaqFu.
Taskmaster should get an honorable mention. Because sure, they can copy moves using their power, to "cheat" but they still have to actually put those moves into coherent combinations and string them together strategically.
