Thank you for the video! I wanted to see this in action pretty bad. I’m a Fangs enthusiast and I can’t imagine playing much unconstrained, I’ll give it a try but I love the original recipe. This is such a cool switch, feels very thematic with a pack of predators closing in around the prey, and a cool and fresh puzzle! Thanks for the continued great content! And like I said below, you forgot Royal backing, but I think you just made it extra hard mode, with an extra round of escalations. :P
I really like this aspect! It reminds me of Mist, but more aggressive (and has energy big plus). I have always had a fascination with mist but could never really "get" the spirit. Plus, there are so many beast synergy cards and events that having a massive amount spread around the island helps make those cards feel better. I don't miss ranging hunts. I had always had an annoyance with the blight restriction on it making some games feel like a lost cause because your main damage tool is just offline. especially as that land keeps coming up and spreading the problem to adjacent lands. I know that is mostly a skill issue but it still feels better to me. I get a pseudo Volcano feel where you have your presence in one spot (most likely a jungle) and use your extra range to hit distant lands. Plus with the extra range it means you can turn more presence into beasts! can't wait to lose a game because it turned all the presence into beasts and then blighted island puts me on a 2 turn timer. Sidenote, I have been super bogged down by work so I have not been as active as I would like to be. I know it's not a big deal, but I did miss watching your vids.
You've mentioned that Unconstrained loses only a bit of power, but apparently some people (no other than Aria, apparently?) believe that it's actually the strongest Fangs now. So maybe things are actually pretty interesting here.
You're very kind to Sweden to give them escalation on their stage I cards. :) On the other hand, they lost their Royal Backing entirely. I appreciate the effort to change up the play pattern of Fangs, but Encircle feels like a strict downgrade to Fangs -- with the one exception of when it can solve two lands at once. However, that single point of damage that can be dealt in an adjacent land is just not very relevant against most of the adversaries, and Fangs already has Too Near the Jungle that has a very similar effect. Taking four turns minimum to "turn on" in the slow phase is rough, and it doesn't actually do more damage except maybe in the center of a board with 3+ players. The loss of the blight restriction is perhaps meant to be the upside (and might make it a bit better against HLC), but Fangs without the same proactive edge feels rough into HME, France, and Sweden.
He knew based on repition that that turn was supposed to be an escalation. His second explore was supposed to be Royal Backing (Sweden 4) I think it was worse this way, since he treated it as an extra stage 2. But the muscle memory was right, 3rd explore = escalation. I thought he may catch it t at that point since you can’t escalate twice in the same land type. But content is hard to make.
