Thank you for this lovely video. Now, we know and understand for SURE that at the end of the series of New Amsterdam, the writers got the lovestory of Max and Helen MASSIVELY WRONG. Further, I would like to add that seeing all that Helen did for Max, she was, in a sense, a hero. She sacrificed alot for Max and her patients; her legacy did not die, but lives on far beyond the walls of New Amsterdam. Helen suffered a profound loss with such dignity and grace. I was reminded of how many times Helen said she wanted to be a Mum, but she didn't want to do it alone. Even when Max was holding Luna, he never allowed much interaction between her and Helen. The most that he allowed was letting her touch Luna's hands. It always felt like his guilt over Georgia and his feelings for Helen when Georgia was alive, prevented him from letting Helen get close to Luna. Luna laughed the first time seeing Helen smiling in her office. Max noticed it too. Luna loved Helen, yet Max let a stranger (Alice) get closer to Luna than he did Helen. Remember when Helen asked Max to let her help with Luna, and Max said, "we're good; it's okay, we have a routine", always pushing Helen away. I still remember that beautiful scene where Helen was comforting baby doe, (who she eventually named Zerah), the 'skin-on-skin' intimacy she shared with that newborn baby, and you could see her falling in love with that baby all through the baby's recovery; so much so that she contemplated adopting her, until the father showed up to claim her. I'm also reminded of how she even cradled Max in her arms when they were in the decontamination showers, and how she caressed his face and prayed for him. Her love knew no bounds. All throughout the series, I thought the writers wrote creatively, but in the end they dropped the ball on this beautiful character of Dr. Helen Sharpe. The one consolation that the Sharpwin fans have is that we saw the love of Max and Helen blossom right before our eyes, and for some strange reason, it resonated beyond a mere tv show, but rather into the hearts and minds of many many viewers lives. Freema and Ryan brought those characters to life, perhaps in ways that they themselves cannot fully comprehend. For them, it's simply a character, but you can't say in one breath that the stories touch on real life experiences, and in the next breath say, they're fictional. Some of these relationships resonate so profoundly with people. AND, although the creativity of the writers did not last to the end of NA because they failed to understand that people are what make 'ships' work or not work, but happy endings do exist in life, and we as human beings need to begin to embrace them again. Hollywood writer's tend to promote more unsuccessful and even, at times, unhealthy relationships, and quite frankly, we the viewing public are getting tired of it. Maybe, we need new writers, creative story lines that people in our society long to embrace. Helen and Max would have survived Helen's wedding day insecurities had Max simply got on the plane to confront what was really going on with his fiance. BUT, once again, the writer's threw Max into his grief stricken state of mind, and into the arms of another woman. Absolutely unbelievable on so many levels. I bought the New Amsterdam Series; Seasons 1 thru 4. For me, Season 5 does not exist. Most of us can creatively write our own ending to the beautiful love story of Max and Helen Goodwin. That's my ending, and I'm sticking to it. REMEMBER: HAPPY ENDINGS DO EXIST, even when the odds are against you. 🕊❤️🕊
I agree with you 200% 💯 💯 I tried to watch season 5 and had to stop because that wasn't Max anymore. I also believe that he would have gotten the first flight to London and talked to Helen face to face. He would have fought for his relationship with her. He wouldn't just give up, cry "oh woe is me", and move on to the next chick. That is not the Max we saw in S1-4. These writers really dropped the ball in the final season, and it's such a shame. Sharpwin was everything. And they always will be. I will only remember s1-4. Thank goodness there are Sharpwin fanfics out there. That's where I will be.

The minute Helen walked down the isle, Max was in awe of her beauty. Lauren was her Maid of Honor, and Floyd was his Best Man. The wedding venue, their vows, her gown was so beautifully described. Max and Helen read their vows; beautifully written. Max had tears in his eyes when Helen read hers.. They're on their honeymoon in Maui, HI right now. It is so beautiful; I cried. They're trying for a baby. This is the best one yet, and I've read three of them, and they were all good. Ryan/Max and Freema/Helen get their happy ending!

I know I’m really late to this comment but I just finished s1-4 and this is exactly how I feel! I said to myself that Max would’ve gotten on a plane and fought for her, for their love. I like Dr. Wilder, but it was nothing compared to the chemistry of Sharpwin. My heart is broken and as a fanfic writer, I am strongly considering writing the ending I want for them. Look as a healthcare worker, this series perfectly shows what a hospital is and how complicated it is to be the director of a hospital, as well as to be part of the hospital, whether you are a surgeon, nurse, nursing assistant... Everything is represented in this series, in different but clear ways. And a clear message is that for health workers, patients come first, then money. That's the important thing, and Max reflects it very well. I love his role, everyone's role, really, but his specifically.
I skipped the 5th season, I read that Max ended up at the W.H.O., ok ,now in TV land, that's2 hrs from London.. Lot's of yrs ( again in TV land) between Luna going from 5 to 28 .. Max & Helen spoke with their eyes and soul.
I think this why they held off of max and helen being together for so long because wants your open that door there’s no way to close it unless held dies or does something unforgivable like leave him at the alter. He already lost one wife, losing two in the span of 4 years is absurd, thus he got left at the alter/rooftop. I don’t think he should have gotten in another relationship though it never gave what max and helen gave. That was true love built on friendship. It should have just been max pouring everything into the hospital and Luna for the rest of the show. Viewers did not need to see him with another woman.
Exactly. The writers were probs like “oh the fans want to see Max get together with someone else! Elizabeth!” NO. We wanted Max and Helen. (I know there are Max and Wilder ships and that’s great! They are good together, but the only reason why is because they had to write Wilder to be this perfect match for Max because of what they did to Sharpwin)
I was happy when there were getting married and he was so protective of Luna and he made sure she was right for the both of them and did that that was shady
