i know this channel is small but it is truly one of my faves on youtube. a real unique vibe. like living in a little dream for a bit. which is very different from your typical retail documentation video. not sure if you're familiar with comic artist John Porcellino's work, but this reminds me of how i felt reading his zine King Cat back in college. his work is very midwestern. maybe that's why i'm drawing connections there.

Sadly that's becoming less common. Inexpensive restaurants used to be a great way for newcomer families to build a business.
Every town of 1k had an Italian-ish restaurant, and every town over 5k had a Chinese restaurant.
A small restaurant is far less realistic to new Canadians these days. Although those Syrians out east making Chocolate is one of those awesome success stories.
Honestly however much I appreciate that they're nonvoting taxpayers, I'm not as cool with PRs as I was before. If a person moves here with the intention of paying for Canadian education and leaving (or becoming Canadian) that's Awesome! I'm less inclined towards people who live here without intention of actually becoming citizens (or eventually leaving).
New Canadians make Canada better, we grow through their arrival. Noncitizen residents don't grow Canada in the same way.
Those little Italian, Chinese, Thai, and Mexican restaurants made Canada a tiny little bit better. Those families made Canada a tiny little bit better. Each one, made our country tastier.
