Than you for sharing a piece of my childhood, I am from Waukegan and went to that mall often. I never saw a movie in that theater. I found out my aunt worked at the theater in the 60's. mM friend saw may a movie there, his mom worked in the mall, as she lived across from the park.

Thank you for the memories. The day after I filmed this, my wife and I saw Scooby Doo when the theater was open to the public.

They don't make cinemas like these anymore. It reminded me of some of the theaters I've been in my hometown of Jacksonville, FL.; in places like the Northside Twin and Arlington Expressway 3 in the '80s and early '90s. What nostalgia. Good memories.

The Hills Department store in Kingsport Mall in Kingsport TN used to have those spring loaded purse holders in the womens bathrooms I remember as a kid in the 1980s.

The seats weren't haphazardly reinstalled. The trend at the time was to install the seats in the row behind between the seats in front so it would be less likely to have a tall head directly in front of you.

This theater opened with the sloped floor seating that was typical of GCC theatres. When Village replaced the original 37-year old seats with used seating circa 2002 they did a piss job on the install: they left most of the mounting hardware on the floor loose, many of the seat back bolts only threaded a few turns, and some arm rests fell off during our first shows. I wound up going through all seats in both theatres to finish a job someone else started 20 years earlier.

I had been to this theater once in the mid 1980’s to see Back To The Future in late July 1985 on my 15th birthday with my mother and sister.

That so cool! I remember loving that movie so much my dad was able to get my sister and me to clean the entire basement with seeing part 2 as the reward.

Reminds me of the theater in Oakbrook, Illinois, where I saw 'The Exorcist' in 1973. It was ridiculous; the theater was way too small for such a popular film, and we waited hours in line to see the movie. But films didn't get the wide distribution that they would later have, so there were few theaters that would show first-run films. This is beautiful remodeling work at the Belvidere!

I worked for GCC from 83 to 92. That red checker carpet i remember well. They changed it to a blue and deep purple carpet around 1990. Hope to make it to this place someday.

Thank you for doing this. Lots of good history you said and shown in this video. Last time I was there was in 2003 when I filmed it, another time in 1997 I was able to walk inside and there were cobwebs everywhere and I only looked in both Cinemas ONE and TWO. Belvidere Mall has survived downtown Waukegan, Lakehurst, and soon the crappy Gurnee Mills. I would have loved to have seen NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD in 2020. I have many General Cinema memories! One movie in particular was Friday the 13th part 4 on Friday April 13th, 1984. I spent a lot of game time in the arcade next door as well. Here's what I recorded in 2003 of the old Lakehurst mall, I also filmed the Genesee Theater and Carson Pirie Scott in 2003, all on my channel ua-cam.com/video/EKcVkOqmyDQ/v-deo.html
