why wouldn't in pull it off? i grew up swimming in worse rivers and swamps and beaches, got washed away by ocean tides about 300m away from the beach on a windy day, couldn't get back to the beach kept chilling on my back for about 30min till the tides pulled me back, So no way i'd ever be in danger in such a decent river, he's either a bad swimmer or its his first time in a river and i blame his friends for not helping at least grab a branch and run full speed down the stream you'll def get there ahead of him and pullhim out, instead they kept filming and yelling... hopefully the trauma will haunt them for the rest of their lives.
That gives me chills knowing the fear this dude was in. I remember I was swimming across a very crazy river, and my self am a professional swimmer. I remember the fear when I couldn’t get across because the current was way to strong for my body, but lucky my friend was there to save me some how. I legit was in shock because I couldn’t catch my self
I was held under in a current as a child it was the new river in West Virginia it looked calm on the top but held me under the man “19” that pulled me from the water drowned I’ve always said he will be the first angel I visit when I get to heaven..
I feel ya it’s like time freezes by all you do is look up & see the sun & a invisible wall of water but your body won’t go up I was once trapped in a under tow for 10 secs before I slowly started rising up thank god
The saddest part is he was about a foot from the eddy line. If he had just done a couple more strokes he would have been in still water. Someone as poor of a swimmer as that truly has no business swimming in a river though. RIP
uo breh that's what I was just thinking. If he'd swam just a little more, he would've been fine. Everyone's getting mad at him for jumping in, but he would've been fine if he hadn't stopped swimming. Very sad
actually looking at the footage again, you see him start to panic.. you don't think when you panic.. if you look at his body, he does look like he is in shape.. but you cant swim when panic takes over.. that is also what happens when you get pulled out by a rip tide.. people try to swim against the current.. when they dont get back to their starting position or get pulled further out they start to panic and they basically tire them self out and drown. If he had known what to do before he jumped in, he would probably be alive. All he had to do was to swim with the current and to the side
That's why it's good to consider ones weaknesses and strengths, I know I'm not a good swimmer so I only swim in calm waters, and also never fall into peer pressure it could cost deadly
"poor of a swimmer... ". Even a expert swimmer would be in grave danger in that water. Kinda the point of the video. Plus you can see that the guy can swim, and does some strokes. I wouldn't call that a poor swimmer. A strong swimmer wouldnt be like current doesnt affect me cause i swim good

Have any idea why this guy actually died then? Is it implied that he ran out of energy trying to swim/panicking that he couldn't keep above water anymore?
It’s easy to judge a situation when your not in it. I can’t swim so if someone is drowning, I’m sorry I can’t help you because we’d both die. Maybe they simply couldn’t swim... or maybe his life was not worth there’s to them.. you never know!
Yeah in the video They didnt do anything, but my friend was in sitvuation like that guy. And i just Froze. For like 7 sec. And then i tried to help him... btw he didnt Get hurt
Im a surfer. Often when we get trapped in a rip current we paddle either left or right till we escape the current then paddle back to shore or out to the lineup. Never ever paddle back against the current as it will overpower you and wear you out before ypu know it..very sad aituation..RIP RAY
What do you expect them to do? If they jumped in also they would probably been swept away which means more people would die and with the current being so strong they probably not be able to grab him and get him and themselves out safely. Calling 911 would be too late and I doubt the terrain is easy enough for them to try to keep up with him in attempt to find a better spot to grab him to safety.
really rude of you to say that. he was swimming but the power of the river pulled him. looks to me that this hasnt happened to you. it was also said that he could swim.stop being so rude
I completely agree he clearly didn’t know how to swim.. he knew enough to survive in a lake or pool.. (calm waters) but currents can be hard for even experienced swimmers.. I barely made it out the other day when floating the river and getting flipped over in white water.. the key is to always stay as calm as possible and fight to reach a rock or get close enough to the edge of the river where you can grab something
@@cacti5520 He could've been a swimmer, but most swimmers haven't swam across a river or done some deep ocean swimming before, very likely tiring him. Though likely not the exact cause since even experienced swimmers can still drown, get caught under a rock or anything and your done. What it seems likely occurred was he panicked after noticing how fast the current was, and likely lost much of his ability to keep himself afloat, likely further inducing panic. They really should've been wearing life jackets especially in that patch of the river. Just sad how preventable much of this was, but really no one could've really stopped it.
This has actually happened to me before, and I would have to say that the best thing to do is to not waste your energy trying to swim against the current. Instead keep calm and wait fore an opportunity to grab on to something in the water. 🙏🏼
As someone who floats the local rivers, I could tell immediately that that river was going really quick. I wouldn't go anywhere near it. Not knowing that particular river, I'd even question if being in a tube in it is safe. Just saying, ignorance is scary. Know what you're up against.
You’re an idiot, yeah he may have got close, but if you aren’t an a great swimmer, trying to out swim a strong current is going to tire you out making you drown faster.
A lot of people in the comments clearly don't understand how dangerous it can be to be caught in a strong river current. First of all, a fast current is A LOT harder to get out of than you might realize. Large rocks and wood can be under the surface you can't see, bashing into them can cause injury and if you hit your head and become unconscious you're done for. Jumping in to cold water makes your body go in a shock and it's very difficult to breath. Hypothermia is common, for a long enough time it can happen even if the water isn't that cold. A persons immediate reaction is to panic and try to fight the current instead of swimming with the current at an angle to shore.
yo this dude instead of recording him going down stream this dude could of tried to help this guy see what phones do now and days people record the problem instead of helping or calling 911.
calling 911 would of made no difference nobody could get to him in time. I was in a similar situation before in a river in Texas where the water pulled me down and i touched the ground and pushed my self to try swim back to the top and i just kept touching the ground and could not get back on top. I tried not to panic, but when your stuck for under water for over 10 seconds and cannot swim back up you will start to panic realizing your situation. I was able to free my self and the worst part is that their was about 8 other people around me and nobody noticed until after I was out of the water. Best thing to do is not to get in the water if your not a good swimmer or what me and my friends always do is have life jackets and floating devices near you in case you have to throw one at some one so they can stay a float.
CXB I don't think it's possible to save the person in such strong water current, may be the person gone to save can chance to die, it's happening, to save one person other 2-3 people died in efforts.
well people should learn to be more prepared should the worst happen, he didnt think when he jumped out.. and he stopped thinking when he got pulled away.. he paniced.. also when someone panic they will stop thinking and if someone try to save them they will potentially kill that person too by clinging to them.
To do a backfloat WITHOUT a life jacket, you fill your lungs with air and relax your body. (The body has to be relaxed for it to work). Admittedly though I've never tried that in a current or when hitting rocks.
The technique works. I’ve rafted some class fives. Seen people fall out into raging water. All survived. But all had life jackets and helmets. And were schooled prior to the excursion.
For any of those hoping to learn something to survive a current or drowning, here's what I know/experienced : -Floating on your back with your limbs spread out can save your life, it needs practice first but once you learn how to float on your back it'll help you conserve your energy and keep you above water -If there's a river current, dont swim against it. Try swimming with the current but angled slightly towards the shore. That's what we learned in canoe practice with the canoe and with ourselves should we ever fall into the river. Never try swimming completely sideways, it'll just push you away -Always stay calm, it's difficult in such situations but often it can be what saves you. If you try something and it doesn't work, try something else. Don't get discouraged and keep fighting because once you give into the panic it's over It's not much but I hope it might be of help for somebody in the future. This is what I learned from my dad, my swimming instructors and my canoe lessons and has saved me from drowning multiple times in the past. This is also just a personal opinion but please, if you can't float on your back - train in a public swimming pool under supervision of lifeguards and don't swim in any dangerous or deep waters before you learnt how, I've seen too many videos of people drowning who try keeping themselves afloat with their legs and arms and don't know how to float on their back and it made me wonder how many could've lived. Multiple times I almost drowned but got the energy I needed to get myself back to shore thanks to resting on my back. I can't force any of you but I don't want anyone to die if it could be avoided. Stay safe everyone
I have a question. Will floating on your back help you stay afloat on a flowing river, wouldn't the waves wrap over your body and pull you down. Wouldn't u be tilting left and right, and tip over onto your face🤔. It is easy to practice floating in stagnant water, but is floating in stagnant water enough practice to survive a flowing river?
If you look later in the video, you even see waterfalls. The current is so strong, I reckon he could easily have been dragged along, thrown over one of many waterfalls, been pulled under, or bashed his head upon some rocks or something. It seems very dangerous.

This reminds me of the movie “The Good Dinosaur” hopefully he’s doing alright in the wild and he’ll come back home one day and will get to see his loved ones again.
Almost drowned twice in my life, what i've learned from the panicking: you should try to get your legs out of the water, sort of floating on your back, and try to row sideways while going with the current, that won't tire you out as fast as letting your legs underwater, where the current is stronger and will most likely suck you in with it's force. Same thing with rip currents, get your legs out of the bottom and row sideways, never go against the current, it will tire you out faster and you'll drown
I used to swim in the Sacramento river all the time.. If you find yourself in trouble you must be calm and get your whole body on the surface of the water...his legs were under water and got caught on trees and brush and it pulled him under it and he drowned, Get your self on top of the water immediately and swim hard toward the shore on a 90 degree angle. I have been in this kids situation a dozen times but never freaked out. It is tragic and dangerous. Panic will kill you when staying calm would save most.
We all know what to do and what makes sense when we’re not in the situation...but when it’s actually happening to you and that first pinch of panic comes in it’s very hard to stay focused and remember all of the rules/training
I was pulled in this exact situation last summer, I was with my family in a boating accident and we were in a river, our boat tipped and I feel in and was pulled underwater. My life jacket helped me float back up but I was dragged by the current away from the boat. What I did was try to float my way to the shore and I eventually hit a sandbar and was able to get out of the current.
Lesly Lopez I know that if he kept swimming as hard as he possibly could and didn’t quit after 3 seconds he would have had a much better chance at survival
While I am not the victim, if I go out doing something that could be considered a spectacle, whether it be a fatal mistake or me being stupid, I'd want it shown for either entertainment or education purposes, depending on the situation.
It hits harder. A lot of people hear about these things and think it'll never happen to me. When you see actual footage you can relate to being with friends and doing daring things and escaped without harm. This video will come to mind before doing something daring again.
that happened to me when I was younger as my cousins watch screaming and this drunk guy jumped in a got me out lmao bless his soul and when we went back to where the rest of my family was my oldest cousin said “ don’t say anything happen”
canvas11xD I would’ve gotten in trouble too because everyone kept telling us to not go far but I didn’t think they said that because the current was strong I thought they just wanted us to go on the deep end
Nah think about it. Imagine if that drunk man wasn't there, and you had died. Think about what your cousin would have done. He might not have said anything and lied to your family and told them he didn't know where you were.

I was very nearly sucked under at a beach on the Solent in Southern England when I was 13 where there is a very strong undertow. It was a very frightening experience. I somehow managed to crawl my way up the shingle beach. What makes this example really bad is that it is in freshwater. At least there is some buoyancy in seawater. There is a lot less in freshwater.
He knew he wasnt a good swimmer, so he took the shorter jump, but his jump landed him in the current😔

I feel bad now I just watched a guy's last happy moments turning to tragedy
He could barely swim... He took a few strokes then gave up. One tip from me: If you can't swim don't jump into a strong current.
💯💯💯 or dont even get in a body of water without a lifeguard present
really rude of you to say that. he was swimming but the power of the river pulled him. looks to me that this hasnt happened to you. it was also said that he could swim.stop being so rude
He died
This has actually happened to me before, and I would have to say that the best thing to do is to not waste your energy trying to swim against the current. Instead keep calm and wait fore an opportunity to grab on to something in the water. 🙏🏼

A persons immediate reaction is to panic and try to fight the current instead of swimming with the current at an angle to shore.

calling 911 would of made no difference nobody could get to him in time.
He might be dead as well if he jump too.
For any of those hoping to learn something to survive a current or drowning, here's what I know/experienced :
-Floating on your back with your limbs spread out can save your life, it needs practice first but once you learn how to float on your back it'll help you conserve your energy and keep you above water
-If there's a river current, dont swim against it. Try swimming with the current but angled slightly towards the shore. That's what we learned in canoe practice with the canoe and with ourselves should we ever fall into the river. Never try swimming completely sideways, it'll just push you away
-Always stay calm, it's difficult in such situations but often it can be what saves you. If you try something and it doesn't work, try something else. Don't get discouraged and keep fighting because once you give into the panic it's over
It's not much but I hope it might be of help for somebody in the future.
He didn't try hard enough to go sideways. He tried literally for like 3seconds.
You have no clue how strong the water current REALLY is.
If you look later in the video, you even see waterfalls. The current is so strong, I reckon he could easily have been dragged along, thrown over one of many waterfalls, been pulled under, or bashed his head upon some rocks or something. It seems very dangerous.
It's a panic situation. Something he didn't practice. Try to jump in that same place, let's see if u can make it alive without practice
you wont be able to outmuscle the current. save energy and go with it until it weakens, and hope for the best
@@bc1173 he was about 4 strokes away from catching the Eddy. Tragic people need to read water that current was not the strongest by any means but anything can be deceiving

If you find yourself in trouble you must be calm and get your whole body on the surface of the water...his legs were under water and got caught on trees and brush and it pulled him under it and he drowned,
Get your self on top of the water immediately and swim hard toward the shore on a 90 degree angle.

This kind of footage shouldn't be online in respect to friends and family. An animation would be sufficient to explain what happened.
Without real footage, people would still try this stuff

While I am not the victim, if I go out doing something that could be considered a spectacle, whether it be a fatal mistake or me being stupid, I'd want it shown for either entertainment or education purposes, depending on the situation.
It hits harder. A lot of people hear about these things and think it'll never happen to me. When you see actual footage you can relate to being with friends and doing daring things and escaped without harm. This video will come to mind before doing something daring again.
Real footage is horrible to watch but that’s precisely why it might keep people from taking these risks. It’s hard to watch but sobering.
