In areas where Concubinage is a thing, you can effectively plant sleeper agents. Offer a liege a Concubine that you have a Hook on, who has high opinion of and boom, free powerful agent.
I was under the impression that intrigue was literally the worst lifestyle. 200 hours in the game and i've barely touched it. 5% abduction scheme chances on every king in the game put me off. But going for spouses and unlanded heirs and archbishops is such a good idea. And the 50% boost in taxes from terrified vassals. I'm gonna have to try this :)
That's a natural reaction when you aren't accustomed to the play style. If the target is hated it's easy for any lifestyle. You have to build a mission if you want to take down powerful people which the intrigue lifestyle provides the tools for.
My favorite thing about intrigue is abducting people with master/legendary inspirations that I want. Much better than waiting decades to get good artifacts....
whoa, whoa, I can only upvote this once. too much amazing content for one video. "game changing" gets used to the point of it being cliche, but this is in fact "game changing".
I think one of the other things to consider in terms of economic power is the ability to reform your religion to include the Communion tenet and install yourself as the head of faith. Obviously you only need one ruler to go Learning for this to work since you won't lose that on succession, but it is an incredibly powerful economic move.
My most recent Dynasty was built around placing strong hooks on Rulers, and then marrying a child to their grandson/daughters. Then kill their son/daughter to secure them a future Duchy/Kingdom/Empire. Biggest problem with my playstyle is that I get very little out of it all. Little money to work with (constantly spending 50g on hooks), my kids fight each other, and only they reap all the rewards :( I wish there was some mechanic so that your children would support you in your old age. Like a tax or something for hooking them up with royalty. I need some gold to keep the lights on over here! And some alliances too! The neighbors are scaring me!
For one the fact that the money takes so much time and effort to just kidnap and improve your odds of kidnapping. When you could just improve your holdings and have consistent money and make more money in less time that the intrigue lifestyle. Also having costs go down on building means your having to spend less of your money and so you have more funds that you can diversify. I personally ahve had it where I was making 117 gold a month which is gonna in my mind than anything intrigue has to offer. I have about 700 hous in the game and I myslef just dont have as much fun playing intriuge charecters.
With the Bishop kidnapping, you can make literally thousands of gold in a single kidnapping. Even without kidnapping bishops, you can make hundreds of gold per kidnapping immediately without any investment in your buildings. You can then use those profits to build up your holdings. Combine that with the Dread bonuses and you should have much better long term returns from intrigue. Can't help if you don't enjoy the play style, though ;) Play what you enjoy
@@SanjiWatsuki I mean thats if you get a good enough intrigue charecter to even kidnap him in the first place. Plus I think bonuses from diplomacy is better than dread now after they nerfed it early on. Also if your stewardship is bad and you can only hold like 4 holdings there is no point in even having that much money in the first place because you cant even use it. At least with higher stewardship you actually have more to spend money on.
So here's a thing that I don't understand: I have the fabricate hook perk + the golden obligation from stewardship perk, and I set my spymaster to find secrets. Every time he finds a secret I have to pay to get the hook (and is not worth), but if I don't have the intrigue perk I just find secrets, blackmail, get hook and make money. Why is that?
Every time you use Find Secrets, the spymaster has a chance to find a real secret (if one exists). But if you have the Fabricate Hook perk, you can pay your Spymaster to fabricate one whenever Find Secrets fails to find one. Without the perk, nothing happens and the game continues. So, it's not making Find Secrets any worse -- it's just giving you opportunities to pay to fabricate a hooks when no secret was found.
@@SanjiWatsuki Somewhat on topic: #1: Whenever you use Fabricate Hook, and the outcome is that you get the hook, but you also get a -40 opinion loss, does that mean the scheme got revealed? It never tells me if my fabricate hook scheme is revealed, but sometimes the outcome is a -40 opinion loss (which really sucks). #2: Assuming that is the case, would repeating the scheme (selecting second option to end scheme and start over) have another chance of getting the hook without them finding out? Every time I restart from scratch (without waiting a full 2 years by just cancelling it) it ends up the same, with them somehow knowing I was trying to get a hook on them, and getting a nasty -40 opinion debuff for the hook (as well as 50g). #3: Does the Fabricate Hook give a random outcome between a weak and a strong hook? Or is it based on your/your Spymasters intrigue? Any other things you could do to more reliably get a strong hook instead of a weak one?
Ransoming has one huge issue it relies on AI having money. Ok scrap that, it relies on AI. That's something u want to avoid as much as possible in a PDX game
Banishing someone doesn't relieve them of their gold, at least not in my playthroughs. As for abductions, fabricating a hook is a 50 gold investment, + 15 to whatever for every agent you invite to a scheme. Raiding gives secure loot, if you don't get caught + ransom gold and the vreat chance for the event to increase capitol development. But most of all, many people feel dirty doing shady deeds it doesn't match their RP style.
