  • When we look at the history of great business ideas, we often find examples of men finding the gap in the market where a product was necessary, but missing. This is how many successful businesses were made and they later became some of the best companies ever existed. But when we look at the same history, we see the lack of women’s participation because of the backdated society we had before. So when we see a business model which was invented by women that didn’t just make a successful company but also changed the entire industry for years to come, we get naturally surprised. That’s exactly what happened when Ruth Handler introduced ‘Barbie’ to the world. In 1916, Ruth Handler was born in a Polish-Jewish immigrant family. Ruth had a poor childhood, but that never affected her in any way. She grew up as a woman of her own and later, married her high-school boyfriend at the age of 22.
Elliot Handler, Ruth Handler’s new husband took her to Los Angeles in 1938, right after getting married. They planned to settle themselves and start their life here from scratch. Elliot was always an art lover from the beginning, and that was a key factor for him to move to Los Angeles at the time.
