This album is perfect. I don’t care what anyone says about the bass. In my opinion that’s what makes it perfect is the uniqueness and rawness. It just hits different.

@Bobonbass8 Maybe, but "heavier" isn't necessarily "better". Sometimes it is, but not always. If heavier is what you want, there are PLENTY of other great bands (even back then) you can get it from.
This is an artificial controversy anyway. They aren't Korn or Tool. Sound engineering like that came after Metallica had half a dozen albums already. People complaining are tourists or die hard Burton fans. Newsted was a better bassist and it was mixed just fine live.
im going on 35 years having listened to this album. never ever gets stale.

I've been in the Metallica rabbit hole for 23 yrs now , heard them from beginning but it didn't click then the guitars on enter sandman hit me , I bounce to one album to another everyday , the deep tracks is where it's at , just great musicians
If you want the best of Metallica live then Metallica live in seattle 1989 is a must watch one of the best concerts ever
I remember buying 2 of this cassette when it first dropped. I immediately opened one up, put it in my walkman, turned it up as loud as it would go and took a 45 minute bus ride.
Hands down the most underrated song and for me my second favorite of all of them, this song is pure thrash it's a complete masterpiece

I have said this before, this was the first album after Cliff died. There was a lot of anger and frustration spilled right into this album you can hear it in the lyrics and the music

I suspect Cliff's fingerprints are all over AJFA. Surely he had hand in some of the music that made on the album.

@imagereflection4826 you know what? I fact checked myself after I made that comment, then lazily never came back to correct it. You're right, tho. "To Live Is To Die" is the only song credited to Cliff, and that's basically a medley of different riffs he'd come up with before he died. That, and the second line of spoken lyrics was his. The first line was from German poet, Paul Gerhardt.
But yeah. I assumed wrong. The album was not nearly as directly influenced by Cliff as I thought it was.

Justice for all was where I got on the Metallica train. It was my first album from them. It always hold a special place in my heart and mind.
I've listened to that riff 133656767443733 times and still can't get over it. Not only that, the guitar and drums sound in this album AND Kirk's solo here. Great reaction man.

I’m so glad you took the dive into Metallica. I’ve been watching the journey and it makes me proud. I think you understand why us old folks say the first 4 albums are the best. They became famous without radio play back then at least in most of the world. This kind of music didn’t get played on the mainstream radio. It was live shows, magazines and word of mouth. That’s why us older metal heads are such a dedicated bunch. I raised my boys on Metallica. I finally took them to see them live in 2018. They were 18 and 23 at the time. It was my best mom moment. They made me so proud! I also took my 4 nephews who are all around the same age. I was the only one who had ever seen them. It was honesty the best night ever.
I got this album on cassette when I was around 11 years old, I am now 40, watching you react to this song for the first time gave me goosebumps all over again 😆
This will always be my favorite Metallica album. Your faces that you make when you like a song are awesome! It’s clear you genuinely enjoy the music and it makes you feel good. Also, the fact that you don’t want to go back and listen to your old music is freaking amazing! You have become a metalhead and we love you for it! 🤘🏼

Being in my late 50's now. I not only had the privilege growing up listening the best metal the 80's and 90's had to offer, my hobby at the same time was building some pretty bad ass car stereos to listen to this killer music on.

Frayed ends of Sanity at around 4:04 is simply the greatest Metallica moment.
When i saw the drum cover of josh steffen of this song. I really really appreciated of what lars ulrich done by this song. It was very clear of drum cover. One of the best drum cover.
We used to have 2 cassette carrier boxes. One with everything else, one with just Metallica. When the time was right in the evening while driving around, the Metallica box would appear and the rest of the evening would be filled with this kind of wonderfulness. This was when they only had 4 real albums.

YES!!!! This song is a banger. Harvester of Sorrow is probably my favorite on this one, too. Everything from this album and before are playlist material.
This album is in my top 3 of all time. Every song is a banger - each song fits in it's perfect place... the engineering and production are spot on. To me, this one is the pinnacle of excellence from Metallica.

The guitars on this album were layered 16 or so times on top of each other to get that chunky wall of sound effect; played exactly the same each time. On vinyl it came on 2 discs so they could use wider grooves for better sound definition.
This album was archived into the library of congress as a historical significant piece!

I don't remember much fuss about the production when it came out. It was just awesome.
We 80s and 90s guys grew up with all this music, i honestly for bad your younger generations because they dont know how good and talented the artists were in the 80s and 90s nothing compares and its tragic what they consider good music now
Seeing how much you appreciate Metallica’s music. Just know that I saw them live once and they played master of puppets. And in the middle of master of puppets they payed the whole song welcome home sanitarium and at the end of that song seamlessly finished the last half of master of puppets. It was absolutely mind blowing

Yes, I've been waiting for this one! Probably my favorite from the album. Those riffs and that tempo together work together perfectly. I might be mistaken but I think there are just a few tracks left from this album you haven't heard - Eye of the Beholder, The Frayed Ends of Sanity and To Live is to Die. Don't sleep on any of them. The album is a banger from beginning to end

Saw them on this tour twice.... Detroit... they played for 2 and a half hours after The Cult played for an hour and a half.One of the best shows ever.They played this tune too.Great times,great tunes.

Eye of the Beholder has a bunch of sick time changes and a super catchy chorus . So that song needs to be done too . This whole album is so cohesive in its technicality and sound . Every song has its place .
This is Jason Newsteds first album with them after taking Cliff Burton place on bass. Jason’s first band was Flotsam and Jetsam, Doomsday for the Deciver 83. Check it out!!!!!!
Metallica were so creative and so at their peak at this point, they had enough riffs for about 10 albums and put them all in this one :D They were an absolute beast live at this time as well, best live ban in the world without any doubt. I'd love to see you do a proper long concert rection to their Seattle 89 show from this tour - do the ENTIRE show in one video, it'll show you why they were the best band in the world in this period (for a decade from 84-94)

You’ll need to start listening to some of their cover songs soon. Metallica was known for their cool choice in cover songs. Many of the bands they covered reformed and had second careers due to the attention Metallica fans gave them. Am I Evil and Blitzkrieg were also extra tracks on a Kill Em All CD in the early 90s, so you might as well include them in reactions.

And Breadfan and The Prince were b-sides for Justice singles, those are just as enjoyable as the album tracks.
