Indeed things have changed tremendously over my lifetime. Lost my soulmate at 19. He visited me in my dreams after he died to tell me that he was in love with me. I’d never known. Years later, I had the nerve to tell his mother that he visited me in my dreams and shared with her what he told me. “I know,” she said. “I could tell.” I didn’t expect that response, but it made me really happy that times had changed enough that I could be honest like that, something that wasn’t so easy to do back in the day. Of course, I let her know too that the feeling had been mutual.

I can honestly say I did not see this going where it went. Very Profound in its meaning. Times are indeed changing and for people like myself the world is more open and full of possibilities than ever before. To see these folks in such a unique way telling their stories in such a subtle yet lovely way was very nice. This is a work of art. Great job!

    FAIR YOUTH
Country people do it in the hay.
[8:09] Richard Hall quoting from an unidentified book by an unidentified author: "Are you entranced with fair youths? Can you contemplate a greater truth? What ladder is he asking us to climb? And what will we find when we get to the top?"
Founded in the interpretation that the relationship was platonic, this theory suggests that the fair youth was Shakespeare’s nephew, William Hart.
In some of his sonnets written in the late 16th century, Shakespeare writes about a young man who he calls “the Fair Youth.” This character is depicted as the Petrarchan ideal; he’s blonde, fair-skinned, innocent, all characteristics consistent with beauty in Elizabethan England. Shakespeare confesses his deep infatuation and jealousy for the Fair Youth in his enduring 126 sonnets dedicated to the initials W.H., who many believe is interchangeable with Fair Youth.
In Shakespeare’s Sonnets the 'Fair Youth' is an unnamed young man to whom sonnets 1-126 are addressed. The poet writes of the young man in romantic and loving language, a fact which has led several commentators to suggest a homosexual relationship between them, while others read it as platonic love. Though the name this young man is not mentioned,we can get a view of the mental and physical picture of him.
The thing that strikes our mind after we read the sonnets is that the speaker only pays the glowing tributes to the external features of his friend. But inwardly his friend lacks many qualities and the poet has to give advice to keep him on the right track. But the young man remains ever uninstructed.
This idealization treats lightly the youth's fundamental flaw, his selfishness in refusing to wed and procreate.
    My choice of inspiring literature:
Walt Whitman served as a volunteer Union Ambulance Driver during the U.S. Civil War because he was a conscientious objector. He once exchanged glances with President Abraham Lincoln on a street in Washington not long before he was assassinated.
"I Sing the Body Electric" is a famous poem from the American writer Walt Whitman's magnum opus, Leaves of Grass. In this poem, a speaker sings the praises of the human body. The body, he says, is nothing less than a miracle: wonderful beyond description, it gives people their own distinct identity and connects them to every other person alive. To have a body, this speaker proclaims, is to be a part of a beautiful, ordered, and joyful universe.
Whitman used the word “electric” to mean thrilling. The first line basically means “I praise the thrilling aspects of the human body”. By sing, Whitman means "recount or celebrate in a work of literature, especially poetry"
I Sing the Body Electric is one of the twelve poems which comprised the first edition of Leaves of Grass (1856/67). In it, he celebrates the glories of existence, explores themes of the body, its parts and its whole, the interconnectedness of body and soul, the sensuality of the body, and equality and interconnectedness of us all (including between races.) The sensuality is prominently discussed to the degree that his publishers tried to have him remove it.

A very touching film. It might bring some people to realize what has always been-that people are the same in any era. That gay people are not just a modern phenomenon. Gay people have always been here, and despite how some people might want to ignore the elephant in the room and want the "problem" to go away, it never will, because it's not the problem. The problem is ignorance and conformity to the idea that there is an "us" and "them". There is only a collective "we" when discussing humanity. Thankfully, the human spirit perseveres through oppression and ignorance. Love is love.

I must have read the short story, but, knowing the ending in no way detracted from an excellent production with a message that sadly seems even more pertinent now I'm 60 than when I was younger & you knew it was us against them. I'm irish/British & despise the current political situation in UK, Ireland has really tried to embrace Civic Law without the rotting pious stench of Fundamentalist religious interference.
What's happening in the US at the moment is a horror story & if that Orange freak gets in, the idea of Project 2025 or 'How to Impose a Fundamentalist Dictatorship on America' , that women have no absolute right over their own body is terrifying, the fingers pointing at the the Trans community will expand their targets to strip rights from the all the apathetic young LGBQ community who have zero idea of their history or respect for those who fought for the rights they now ignorantly enjoy. A huge oversimplification/generalisation,but,sadly if they vote with their indignation (which is entirely justified),they are possibly going to put the Very worst of what just now seems two bad options. At least with the Democrats there is a chance if intellectual discussion, where the bible is not quoted as infallible proof of how "god" wants them to run America.
That this charming & sweetly heartbreaking film can cause comparison with the dangers in the current political landscape at the same time as offer the viewer a chance to empathise with one,if not all its characters is a credit to everyone involved. Very best wishes to all of you from London.

Wow, what a great little film. I didn't expect how it evolved. Not preachy, either. Just honest.

the comments speak to the on-going (post Richard Hall) nature of what this is unpacking. I found a copy of the book of stories, the Fidelities and in which Country People is one of the stories. Both genres are important to the many who are viewing this short film. Thank you for posting

Thank you! I think Richard wanted to bring pre Stonewall books into a post Stonewall world. In the same way, I wanted to bring Richard into a post Millenial world. Thanks for watching!

@@secretofilms6302 there are few gay short themed films that catch my attention. The English teacher in me loved the content and I read the story in the book you recommended. It is clearly inter generational. Well done.
