Although I discovered early on that I had an accurate sense of pitch, which imposed some degree of perfectionism, it still didn't lead to me becoming a musician. However, music has been an integral part of my life: there is always music playing whether it is a recording somewhere or something far less perfect going on in my head. Of course, ultimately we know that the universe is about cats.
That’s very interesting! By ‘accurate sense of pitch’, do you mean perfect pitch? I know a lot of musicians who do have perfect pitch, but I’d be curious to know how many non-musicians do too! Sadly, it is not something I was endowed with - and certainly within the musicians I know, I seem to be the minority! Masa, I think, shares that with you in that he always has something playing in his mind and his fingers are usually wiggling or twitching as he air plays it too! Thank you so much! I wonder if it is a Burmese thing; she is extremely demanding of attention and the most affectionate little thing we’ve ever met! Though they both (the other is a Bengal) like to be in the same room as us and follow us about the boat throughout the day! -Rhiana

I’d also say that, as an English teacher, I know that answering the “who is your favourite composer” question is as impossible as the “who is your favourite author” question that I get all the time :)

Hi Maurice, thanks for your query! Thats'a good question - I do enjoy listening to a bit of J-Pop and music from other genres, but when it comes to playing, whilst I did dabble a bit in playing by ear, my training was always geared to the classical genre and I feel that's where my focus remains. The way jazz musicians improvise at the piano for instance never ceases to amaze me, I can imagine having a lot of fun at the piano if I had that kind of skill (but sadly I don't)! Also, singing and playing at the same time; keeping my left hand and right hand coordinated is as far as I can manage...! 😅 -Masa
We live in NZ and are hoping to visit family during September 2022. We would love to book a morning tea or afternoon tea on your boat. What are the chances that the restructure you have mentioned you are doing currently will still allow this?
Hi Graham, we would love to welcome you on board but sadly it is unlikely to be possible in September. We have been considering a restructure but the immediate reason for pausing cruises was unfortunately due to illness which has made it difficult to plan ahead.
