I made this last year for my Mom for a Christmas present and she loves it still! The pattern is SUPER easy and I love that there's a video tutorial! Love this pattern and will definitely be making another one this year.
Great pattern with easy to follow instructions. Can't believe I did it. Actually used 2 strands of Roll with it Melange yarn and N hook. Turned out beautiful. Thank you!
I really love the trick of constructing sweater out of rectangle. I'm just about to finish the Modern Draped Sweater. I picked slightly smaller size than I wished for so substituted for adding more rows in collar (now it looks like front and back is purposely different pattern, which gives it interest) also added pockets (Which the other tutorial doesn't have) and now I'm here to add different pattern sleeves. This tutorial made me addicted to crochetting. This is my second sweater
Thank you for sharing this beautiful sweater pattern, I started making a shawl with pockets for my daughter with different stitches, then she had her heart set on a cardigan, so I used your assembly and she loves it! I am planning to make one of the other cardigans that you offer, they're all so beautiful!🥰
Hi Jess. This is my next project. I'm trying to decide on a yarn & a color. i'm thinking yellow in support of the French. Just joined your crew and opened the archive. Wow! I'm making EVERYTHING! You are so precious to brag on your sister & design a room for her. Wish you were my sister. Thank you for sharing your talents with us. ☺️
thank you very much for this video!! This is my first sweater and I DID IT :) Loved it!! Thank you so very much and I hope the rest of your video's are this easy to follow!!
Love this one ! Already "Pinned" it ages ago ! I am now also subscribed to your guys' newsletter, so I don't miss anything anymore ! You've got great patterns and tutorials ! Keep them coming, please ! Love & hugs from Belgium !
I was afraid to try this sweater but its a lot easier than it looks. I have just gotten my rectangle done. I used lionbrand Shimmerie yarn its a bulky 5 had to do adjustments but my measurements are right so excited to get this done. Thanks for a great pattern...looking forward to trying more of them. Hope all is well...Happy Thanksgiving.
Ever since i first saw this i wanted to do it but i always find an excuse or life happened now life happened again..quarantine so i will try it second attempt. Thank you for sharing!
Just finished my cardigan & i really like the way it looks. Depending on how tight you crochet you may have to add more rows to make it look like the picture. Also, it will be difficult to complete withour the written pattern which she has posted for free. But if you are a beginner or have trouble reading patterns this may not be for you.
Amazing, am very new to crochet but your detailed tutorial gives me the will to give a try... will surely tag you if I manage to finish it. Thanks xoxo new subscriber here ❤
Welcome to the crochet world! We are super excited to have here with Make and Do Crew! You can totally make this sweater. If you run into issues, feel free to reach out, or ask in our Facebook group. There are a lot of good helpers there! :)
i’m using caron big cakes with a 6.5mm hook to make mine so since its a lot smaller yarn i’m guessing i just chain until it measures 44” long for the foundation row, then continue crocheting the pattern to however big i want the square?! i love this pattern, thank you!
What an adorable show would love to try to make thank you for sharing was wondering if it would change the pattern any where a lot of the times where you are stating yarn over you pull from the back of the yarn and don't actually yarn over should we follow the way that you crochet this or should we follow your spoken directions?
Can someone help me...? SUPER BEGINNER !! How many square windows should I have in each row if I am making the L/XL size? I know it says it should be the same in every row but I have a bunch of different numbers and I don't know which row is correct to keep following. Thanks!
I’m making this pattern and have finished my rectangle. (Be sure to check your gauge. I didn’t check mine and had to add more rows to get the correct length.). How did you tie on your yarn to start seaming the sides?
Hola muy lindo el punto y tu trabajo, podrías decirme cuantas cadenas urdiste? No alcanzo a entender y cuantos cms tejiste? Gracias . Saludos desde Antofagasta . Chile
I'm sorry, I'm not quite sure as I've only used a category 5 yarn. My best suggestion would be to make a gauge swatch and use that to figure out how many stitches you need to achieve the rectangle size listed in the pattern.
Lida Santander I'm making this sweater right now with red heart super saver yarn because I couldn't find the required yarn to make it & I'm using 2 strands so it's bulky. So far so goid!! I'm making the smallest size to see how it turns out
Do you think we'd be able to line this as a rectangle then seem it up to form the sweater at the end and do the collar and sleeves after too? Like just a regular rectangle fabric inside as lining
Ok so I’ve made the sweater with a regular double stitch for 2 rows and a single for 1 because I wanted a warmer less holy sweater. Turned out great. However the batwing style sleeve is a bit restrictive in the range of motion. I dont know if that’s because I made it thicker, or the shape, or both. But It won’t work for me at my job but my friend who has a desk job was more than happy to buy it from me :)
Hey Jennifer, Thank you! I'm so glad you find them helpful! I've listed the yarn amounts you need for each size of the sweater in the free written pattern which is link above this comment area in the video description box. Happy crocheting!
it is very pretty, but I am afraid to do it, because I don't feel it is so friendly beginner... I will watch the video several times to decide if I am able to crochet it.
Hey Claudia, I can see why it may *seem* intimidating, but I promise that once you have the basic stitch pattern (which I go over step-by-step in the video), you'll be off to the races! The sweater body is comprised entirely of that stitch, with no increasing or decreasing. :)
Claudia la Norteñita It is definitely not for beginners. I've been crocheting for years and never saw this x stitch. Too many fancy stitches today, thanks but I'll stick to the original!!
I'm really struggling to find the free reference for sizes, I click the link to the pattern but the page doesnt have a link on it to the pattern except to ad one, I just wanna know the sizes 😢
Hello! ... How are you ...? ... I'm Carla from Chile ... I love your channel ... And I love crochet ... I just signed up .... I'm a beginner and there are many beautiful things I want to do ..... Could it be that your tutorials have their titles in Spanish please ...? Sorry for the translation, I don't know if it's okay ... 🤭🤭🤭 .... I wait for your answer ... Kind regards🌹🌹👍👍🤗🤗🤗🤗
I think this sweater could be done with a whole bunch of different kinds of stitches. Just as long as the rectangle you end up with will fit your body shape. Some stitches might hang looser or tighter so it might impact the fit of the sweater.
I would love to make this But I am struggling with what kind of yarn and hook to get, plus understanding how much yarn to buy and how many stitches to use for the LG or xl
Beautiful pattern!!! Quick question...at row 2 I have 95 st as stated in written pattern but when I do my row 3 I'm down to 91...should it stay at 95? :)
I'm working on this sweater (thanks for the helpful video!) And have the stitches down, I'm just having trouble with the ends of the rows. My edges are not straight. I've gone over the video slowly many times so I'm hoping making some tweaks will help. I don't really understand whether to end rows by crocheting IN turning chains or in the hole/gap.
Crochet in the hole/gap, not the turning chain. The turning chain is needed to determine the height of the next row and is usually considered a stitch, so if you crochet in the turning chain, your rows are going to look wonky.
I never make sweater but I really want this one ❤️ I just don't know how many meters of yarn I should order? And with how many loops I should start 🤔help me please
I just want to sew one with hoodie fabric and a HUGE hood! Can I get the measurements for the square and length of sleeves and thickness of finishing edge?
If I were to use size 6 super bulky yarn, would it come out looking the same if I do the same pattern? And how many skeins do you think I would need? Only because there’s a sale on super bulky yarn right now and I can’t afford the other atm :/
I have tried this pattern 4 times now and 4 times I've ended up with a shrug and not the length that is shown in the pictures. Been crocheting for 18 years and its frustrating to mot be able to figure out where this is going wrong
I’ve been trying this (just learning how to crochet) and the basic rectangle was easier but the sleeves and collar and stuff is not easy...not sure what I’m doing wro g
Dana Cason My first attempt ended up like a shrug too....I've already start to think what I can do to make it longer....lemme know what works for you....thanks!
Overall I've enjoyed this project and you do a good job explaining the stitches. I've gotten to working on my collar after finishing the bulk of the sweater but realize as I'm trying it on that it's waaay shorter in length than it looks like in the sample photo. My guess is that I used a smaller hook than I should have. It looks great but definitely will not fit the intended recipient...
Hey! I'm sorry it's fitting shorter than you needed it to. If you have any interest (or patience!) to tear out the collar, you could always add additional rows to the main rectangle to make it longer before you move on to the collar. If you haven't already, it might be helpful to measure your gauge and compare it to the pattern just so you can sort of troubleshoot what went wrong so you know for the future. :)
@@makedocrew1717 thanks! I do plan on remaking this sweater. I added a row along the bottom so it wasn't so snug there. I also realized far too late that I was using a smaller gauged hook than suggested

hello, this is beautiful!! I wonder, is it something you do on purpose to take the yarn the way you do when you make single crochet and the post stitches ? because I've never seen this way to do it before... I use to always get my yarn over from back to front. Hope you understand because I'm french...
Hi Celine! I think I do understand your question. As far as I know, that it totally personal preference. I was actually discussing this with my mom recently because she does it the other way. Even though she's the one who taught me to crochet, I do it opposite! Either way, we end up with the same result. :)
Hi thanks for the tutorial... I’m a visual person but I’m trying to learn from just reading patterns anyway I don’t have any weight 5 yarn but I have a new skein of carron one pound... can I just use that yarn and if so do I use the same hook size 10 or I need to user a smaller hook.... thanks in advance
Hey Michelle, My suggestion would be to try two strands of that yarn held together and to do a little gauge swatch to see if you can get pretty close to the pattern gauge. Doing so will help you know if you need to adjust your hook size smaller or larger. Also, if you really want to use one strand and make a worsted weight sweater, I have a free pattern and video tutorial for a similar cardigan that uses worsted weight yarn. You can google "Make and Do Crew Habitat Cardigan" or search it on UA-cam and you should be able to find it. :) Happy crocheting!
Love how these cocoon cardigans create dolman-like sleeves. And pockets-YAY. Thanks

You can google "Make and Do Crew Habitat Cardigan" or search it on UA-cam and you should be able to find it. :) Happy crocheting!
Can you email the written pattern to me please

Hi! I love this so much and can't wait to do it, but quick question, can you add a hoodie if you add a rectangle on the top side??
