I get it a lot of people prefer abba’ version cause yeah it was sang exceptionally but what I love here is the way Tanya made the song hers. Her character, attitude and acting was a perfect fit for this song that made it a lot more interesting than simply singing it.
I love how this scene is written for the female audience. The boys act how girls would respectively in any other movie. "The dumb hot girls fawning over the main character" you dont see the female perspective represented in movies a lot.
@ListenToHearts Benny and Bjorn have composed the songs (and lyrics, of course) in the 70s, and they were released as ABBA songs. In 1999 the musical was created based on those songs. Catherine Johnson wrote the screenplay for both the stage show and the movie. P. S. The boys were of course involved in the musical, too
She’s absolutely amazing ...right!? Now that is flexibility worthy of singling out and acknowledging! If I had tried that move, I would still be reclining with about a dozen martinis beside me 😂😂😂😂
I was just watching an episode and Leonard proudly admits to watching Mamma Mia 2 in theaters, because Meryl Streep and Cher were in it. You'd think he'd be put off by seeing his mother in it. Or at least confused as to why she's socializing and singing.
The actor who plays Pepper did such a wonderful job with his role. In my option he made his love struck/crush on Tanya one where you love it but at the same time annoyed in a good way as he was respecting the space but not in her face in a way not many people out there do anymore.
Love the classical references in this movie. Lay All Your Love On Me is absolutely Aphrodite beguiling every man in her presence. Dancing Queen is the Maenads' dance - regardless of age or station, the women join the march. And this, this is the song of Circe, turning men into animals. Fantastic stuff.
seriously, the extras of this film are really funny. Like the boys dancing here and in "Lay All Your Love", the army of ladies in "Dancing Queen", Donna's helpers at "Chiquitita", "Money, Money, Money", "S.O.S", and in "Mamma Mia", they are really hilarious
she is such an awesome character. she shut him down rather put up with it. she does know how to turn people down, she also know when it is time to stop joking and be serious, she was supportive when donna was freaking out and earlier when sam left she cheered her up, then did it again when he returned. she is hilarious(reasons I want her as a friend).
As a gay man, I only hope to age as gracefully, and surrounded by as many beautiful young men as Christine Baranski, martini in hand. This gives me vibes similar to "Is there anyone here for love?" by Jane Russell in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Christine is fabulous in pretty much anything she does. Here her Broadway experience comes into full play. Voice, legs, great shape, and acting chops. She’s the real deal!
This scene is still one of my favorites in that film. And I've seen it so many times, but I can't stop enjoying that music and watching such a wonderful film.
Love this scene. The women are the cats, with the most mature one fully aware of her power and how to use it. The men are the adorable, friendly dogs knowing perfectly well that cats have claws. Adorable scene that really makes you love the people involved! I just wish her infatuated cutie had returned in the sequel...

I like both versions of the song. Original & this one
She is old? No. She is a teenage girl, with 40-50 years flirting experience.

Saw the stage musical twice, and this holds up to it well. I thought it was brilliantly cast.
Siii
I love how this scene is written for the female audience. The boys act how girls would respectively in any other movie. "The dumb hot girls fawning over the main character" you dont see the female perspective represented in movies a lot.
The original song was written from the guys point of view. So it was smart for them to turn it around.
I just find it hilarious that one of the only Abba songs with a male lead isnt given to any of the Male cast. Funny how things work out.
This musical is written and directed by women and it shows 👌
@ListenToHearts Benny and Bjorn have composed the songs (and lyrics, of course) in the 70s, and they were released as ABBA songs. In 1999 the musical was created based on those songs.

So we’re not going to talk about how Christine does a full on reclining yoga split without breaking a sweat ??

Can't believe they asked Cher to play Tanya.
Christine Baranski killed it, and I absolutely love how musically her voice sounds.
Luckily for Cher she did get a part in one of the movies even though it is so small
Does Leonard know what his mother is doing?
No but Sheldon probably does
